Gasquet is one of the few players who has been consistently unlucky with his draws. Both can play well and both can self-destruct but Gasquet's return game is a bit suspect against a big server like Safin so I will go with Safin.

If Safin is tired, Gasquet will have a chance. If not, Marat all the way. ;)

They played earlier this year in Davis Cup on carpet too and hopefully, they'll be able to reproduce the quality of that match (minus the fifth set :tape: ).

Provided his serve is there on that day. ;) And a concentrated Marat shows up. :)

Safin looked tired in Madrid, he has played a lot lately. I even wonder if he won't retire before the tournament starts. I'll go with Richie.

I feel the same. I'll be happy and upset no matter who wins. But since this is in France, I want Richie to win. He's already embarrassed himself in DC and Lyon already this year. Why isn't Marat in St. Petersburg?

If they both play their best its going to be a brilliant match. I'll be rooting for Richie :bounce:

Why isn't Marat in St. Petersburg?Apparently the tournament director offered him money according to his ranking at the time, which, although I don't remember exactly when the negotiations were going on, was probably around 100, and Marat said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. I've won this thing twice and I've been number one and you know I'm going to attract more fans than the player directly above me or below me. Forget this."

I'm so torn. This is a match I definitely would NOT put money on.

It depends who shows up to the court. Niether? Horribly played match. Safin only? He rolls. Gasquet only? He rolls. Both? Safin, but close.

Ugh :(.

Gasquet wins at life, so he'll win this match :p. Way too tough to call. Even though Safin's got the huge serve coiupled with Gasquet's sometimes suspect returns of serve, he's got MORE than enough game off the ground and everywhere else around the court to give Marat fits. He attacked the net relentlessly in their DC match and frustrated the crap out of Safin so look for Richie to do the same. I'll go with Gasquet in 3 sets.:D:D

Safinator must win!! he need this points for being seeded in the AO 2007. Also, he must do a good tournament in Paris Bercy.

i don't know because they are both talented.
but i think everybody agree with me on the point that gasquet plays against the best players (federer, nalbandian 2 times,...) very early in all tournaments of this years.
richie, poor man, not luck

When you're this young and always facing really tough opponents in early rounds, that's going to be experience that can only help him later in his career! The shock will wear off and he's going to be even more prepared when he gets a bit older.

Okay, after a few days, I've decided to take my pick and it's Safin. I think he needs this more than Richie (even if it's in France), only bcoz Safin isn't getting any younger and only a few years away from :eek:retirement:eek: and so he just needs to win titles now! Richard's only 20, he's got all the time in the world.

I don't know who voted for Safin but Safin fans should have known Marat is playing in a few days at his beloved AMS Paris. Safin knew he can't arrive tired in Paris. He got some match practice against Gasquet and that's fine for him.
