Pretty good match from Rafa above all in the second set , hitting winners from both sides and some nice shots like that amazing passing shot winner :worship: in the seventh game of the second set..

Sigh. Mardy.

But now Andy needs to beat Berdych and then we'll finally have the Roddick-Nadal rematch many of us have been wanting so badly. :bounce:

Now hopefully I'll get to SEE his next match... TV is overdosing on CL football here... so yesterday no Fed, today no Rafa!

Yeah, I saw that shot. Typical Rafa passing shot.

Next victim: Tommy Haas.

Twice. Rafa winning an incredible one on clay and Roddick winning one at the Open. All pre 2005

Roddick/Rafa rematch now would be so great! :woohoo:

Fish has some mental diarrhea, he misses the easiest points. I like him, but to make such a shame of himself is something I just cringe to watch.

Fish cannot return the Rafa serve. It was the same at Queens earlier in the year, pathetic.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Berdych has a different opinion on that matter tomorow.

I've never met a person that litteraly HATES a player. I dislike many players, but hate is a strong word.

It depends on the surface. If you mean in Madrid then I think Nadal has a good shot at winning unless Roddick starts getting more comfortable there. He'd only won one match there before this year.

If the court conditions are fast enough I would give Roddick a definite shot if he's playing really well. Seeing them play on grass would be really interesting too.

The way it goes, Roddick will be obliged to lose... :o

i actually think Roddick might beat him on an indoor court, he does struggle with big hitters on hard courts, his return needs to get better, i would rather Rafa win though.

Yeah that shot was nice but his BP conversion 3/10 makes me  again. He missed easy shots on BPs AGAIN!! This is becoming like a disease. :o
He needs to step up vs Haas.

Did anyone see Raul, Beckham and Sergio Ramos watching the match? Imagine if a Federer/Nadal final really did take place; both would compete as to who could bring the most prestigious sports personalities to cheer for them in the players box.

Mhm, I didn't like how he missed those SP on Mardy's serve in the first set. I hope it's because he hasn't had much match practice recently. On the other hand, he saved both BP on his serve, so maybe he'll be back to his stable self soon. ;)
A few passing shots were spectacular indeed. :yeah:

Fernando Hierro the ex captain from 'my time' was also there, and Infanta Elena of Spain. :D

If I remember correctly, Raul and Beckham watched Rafa last year too. Rafa is a big Real Madrid fan and they'd met at a RM practice.

He needs to step up vs Haas.

His problems converting break points out of clay isn't anything new and last year he had the same problem .

With the level he showed today he could beat Haas perfectly though It would be obviously better to increase his level during the week .

I don't understand your pessimistic interpretation of the match when he played one of his best matches after Wimbledon.

if a roddick-nadal match up happens, roddick would need to deal with spanish crowd and also make his power play consistent. since the word is out that on faster surfaces when facing this guy, you need to attack, attack, and attack.

roddick just might pull it off and face his euro-counterpart.

since berdych is also a strong server, should rafa get through haas, he'll have a problem with either andy or tomas since he hasn't really fared well against big servers so far....

Dude, seriously don't jinx him man.

He will win at least 20 RG, and maybe one Wimbledon, to make it a total of 21GS. Fed wont do it...

Typical Nadal the big server. Won 74% of first serve points, 82% of second serve points.

not big problem for Nadal to beat Fish
only when Fish is at home and playing really good he would have change against Nadal on hardcourt or indoor maybe

NYCtennisfan
10-18-2006, 11:38 PM
Fish just can't get a high enough % of first serves in no matter who he plays. He's always around 50% or so and that doesn't it against Nadal. Fish does well to win more than 2 or 3 rallies in an entire match against Nadal. No chance to win.

Shows how much of a dirtballer he is, when he was going backwards on the 2nd serve instead of forward... lol
