And it's very common in south american spanish-speaking countries the presence of a middle name so argentinian and chilean players is almost sure they have a middle name.

They are using their fathers' last names I guess. Father's last name comes first. For example Parera should be Nadal's mother's maiden name. (at least that's what I was taught in spanish class)

López, Robredo and Moya are father's last names ;)

In spain and most of latin american countries, you could have many names (generally 2), and two last names (the first from the father, and the second from the mother) and only the first one is heredated to the sons. And the wives don't acquire the husband last name ;) they conserve her maiden name.

Actually, I believe that you can pick any two ot the four names of the parents (two of the father and two of the mother) and give them in any order to the child.

But in most of the cases (maybe 99%), the first last name is the the first last name of the father, and the second last name of the child is the first one of the mother.

Is my idea, or argentina is the only latin american country where don't use a second last name? because when I went to Argentina always said my two last names in hotels, but they only write my two names and my first last name.

It may not be that normal as in other latin amercian countries where most of the people have a secons last name but it's quite common. I actually have a middle name and a second last name.
Also, a lot of people who have a common spanish last name like fernández or rodríguez have a second last name.
