NBL ROUND FIVE

Mr Flamboyant

Contrary to most I think NZ has a big chance against Wollongong tonight .. A tough schedule has to take it's toll on the Hawks tonight, they're playing their third game in five days .. and that stretch has included a trip to Singapore ..

The Breakers have to make a statement and quickly .. tonight is a chance to do that against a team certain to be a little jaded ..

Under 199.5 points appeals because of the fatigue factor with the Hawks .. Not sure if I'll hit it yet but will mull over the play for the next half hour or so ..

I'm on the over tonight, CB has it listed at 196.5 whereas a lot of other places have it at 199.5-200.5

OVERS 196.5 Hawks v Breakers - $1.90

Thanks Andrew & Dave ..

The total ended up a bit of a coin toss in the end .. but the Breakers did at least live up to my hunch and turn the corner in terms of their performance ..

Can't for the life of me comprehend why the Breakers didn't swoop on Dereck Rucker during the off season .. He's at worst a temporary solution to their point guard problem, which is a major achilles heel .. The season's only a few weeks old, cruch some numbers and get him in your line up!!

I agree Rucker would have been a great pickup for them given their current lineup. I've read alot of crap about Wethers on the net eg. the most unworthy MVP of all time, overated. Don't buy it, he is in the elite players in this league IMO. A big part of the Breakers problem is they have players that don't do enough and aren't really up to this level. Namely IMO Charleton, Olson (on current form) and Henare. The jury is still out on Powell, he may have solid numbers but I'm far from sold.
There is enough in this team if they can stay healthy to make a run at the playoffs still.....

Agree .. alot of the pieces are there for New Zealand, but gee I just wonder what a top notch point guard would do for them .. It's their biggest weakness atm ..

Talking about the Breakers and specifically Powell, after watching the Pigs-Breakers game live, to me Powell is a type of player who plays for the stats. There were plenty of times where they were in a fast break and instead of going to the open man he would try and do it all himself.

Agree with Dave though - I think this team could still cause a few headaches to some of the top teams as the season progresses

I suspected that too .. when the bloke was going berserk after a blocked shot against Sydney the other week with his team 15 down .. Reminds me of an "individual" we had up here a couple of seasons ago - Jayson Wells ..!

Geez he (Powell) looks a lot like Lote Tuqiri though!

Although they cost me on Sunday, every way I look at this I just don't see how Bullets won't win this by at least 10 points - Breakers squad goes 4 "deep" without a PG, they are playing their 4th game in 7 days and now face a team who were embarrased at home after blowing a huge lead..

Bullets to cover -5.5 v Breakers - $1.90

Will try the margin again, this time with more confidence..

Yep .. burnt Bullets backers get back on the horse today .. Brisbane should win by 15+ .. The travel factor has been nullified by the fact the Breakers played on monday night .. lol that is what I thought when they played Brissy the other night

The thing with Crocs is even though they always come out guns blazing the mere fact that they don't have the ability to get those defensive stops always gives the opossing teams backers a chance.

bg/dave - cheers on the +12.5 answer...

Big props to Henare for last nite, not so much his pts haul, even tho he did knock down some clutch treys, but his efforts at the pt were excellent, he continually broke the Bullets presses and traps and was very much the key to their victory... funnily enough, the Bris game plan prob tended to suit the Breakers with off-the-cuff players like Powell... Bullets small lineup really hurt them defensively, Bradtke really struggling on the comeback from injury and didn't play many minutes, whenhe did he was well off-key...Pepper did a nice job of maxinmising mismatches, very solid, Dorge has done a great job with him and continues to get the most out of Behrendorf too....

I always find the NBL lines "amussing" for example the books open Cairns at -4 thinking Rogers isn't playing. They find out he is and bring the line into 3.5.
In the NBA if a key player plays in similar circumstances the line can move 6-8 points!

Cheers BG!

Anyone know about Maher ?

Smyth on Thursday said that Maher was a "possibilty" to play the Crocs on Friday night but if he did he would definitely not be backing up against the Tigers on Saturday, main reason is because of the flight over there as he mentioned he would rather he stayed in Adelaide to continue receiving treatment.

On that basis, regardless of the fact he didn't suit up last night, don't see why he would fly over to Melbourne and play tonight.

Cairns -3.5 over Perth @ $1.90

And just for fun... a couple small bets on both the big underdogs to cover the margins.

Was hoping for 200+ but still think 196.5 is on the high side for the Cairns Perth game .. The only one in the last three years at the CCC that's gone close to this was a double OT a couple of seasons ago .. finished mid 80's each at the end of regulation ..

Totals have been a bit of a lottery recently though ..

Money! :)

1/3 but ended up in the +.

This just makes me wonder...

Once again all 3 favourites covered, and quite easily.
Has anyone kept a record on what % have covered?

I really need to start record keeeping on that kind of stuff. :banghead:

They were very tired and pretty flat BG .. Got no doubt they can play a lot better than that .. They were all looking forward to getting home having been on the east coast for 11 days ..
