Tati Rascon who should have got a wildcard to the main draw and at age 35 and a Spanish serve volleyer comes out and defeats Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo who is having his best year in 3 sets. That is so funny and hope he makes the main draw.

Anybody remembers the stir RRH caused when he defeated Blake?

This might be the beginning of a new era of Spanish serve-volleyers. ;)

Nice work Tati!

I thought he looked quite old...but how is Jim Thomas younger than him?!!

Serve-volley works quite well in those conditions I think

Rascon is semi retired and only plays some small events in Madrid, but he won his place in the qualies and he will play Navarro Pastor for a place in the main draw.

There will be some net rushing in this match.

If Rascon makes the main draw, they will need to play at Bernabeu Stadium to fit in all the people that want to see him.

Hmmmm....pretty much 50/50 match there. I saw Navarro at Nottingham and was impressed by his game...but not heard a peep out of him until now

Wrong. Madrid is really slow. RRH is a claycourter and they always have problems with S&V, with very few exceptions.

Rascon can now add Ramirez Hidalgo to the list below.

Not a bad list of people he has beaten.

Camporese
Portas
Clavet
Mantilla
Martin A
Agenor
Bhupathi
Sluiter
Pavel (twice)
Pozzi (twice)
Vicente
Almagro (twice)
Garcia-Lopez
Verdasco
Vinciguerra
Mayer

In the 2004 Madrid qualies he defeated

Acasuso 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3

He fell to Ginepri in the first round two years ago, that's his only main draw appearance.

I posted a list above of the players he has beaten, and it's not bad from a guy from a guy whose highest ranking was 144 in 1996.

Safin upset the idea of the Kunitsyn Cup and if Tati Rascon makes the MD that is like winning the tournament.

Where is betterthanhenman? He'd be loving this result.

Kristian is busy.... he's very rarely online these days.

Sheesh... of course it was him who started a thread on Rascon this year :haha:

PS. GWH, do you know such a player called Oscar Burrieza Lopez? He's also fun, too bad he's not playing there!

How many other ranked players unbeaten in 2007 are there? Maybe none.
