Really has to improve that he usually makes stupid overagressive plays on 2nd serves. FelipeMIA89 10-14-2006, 02:28 PM great win GONZO!! Roddick is still not great at coming in off the right balls, he was thinking he could come in off anything so long as he went to Gonzo's backhand but it wasn't happening. Both forehands was great. cobalt60 10-14-2006, 02:31 PM Really high quality match. Both guys played great but in the end Fena was too good. It was a joy to watch to guys really going at it, forehand to forehand rallies were breathtaking at times. Thanks for the info. They are both top quality players. Seems the crowd got their money's worth. Although I wanted Andy to win, one can't be unhappy with the results if both were playing up to snuff.:D +alonso 10-14-2006, 02:31 PM I forgot to add that its pathetic that Gonzalez won 1/13 2nd Roddick serves in the 3rd set... and he still won the match. I don't get it. zine56 10-14-2006, 02:42 PM A slumping Roddick dispatches Gonzo twice this year I don't get it. on GRASS.. that's why ¬_¬ and Gonzo just run out of gas in Cincy after 3 HC SF Jimnik 10-14-2006, 02:44 PM A slumping Roddick dispatches Gonzo twice this year (plus again in Cincy) but now that he's playing better he loses? I don't get it. Interesting point. But two of the meetings were on grass and Andy will always beat Gonzo on grass. The Cincinatti meeting was not a "slumping Roddick". He had already reached his good form. I think it's a better match-up for Gonzalez indoors because Roddick's BH slice has no effect on these indoor hard courts. Gonzalez was ripping FH winners off every BH slice, today. Horatio Caine 10-14-2006, 02:58 PM Wow...I thought an upset was on the cards, but I didn't totally believe it would happen. Well done Gonzo!!! ...He ruined my eagerly anticipated final between the best friends Ljubo and Andy :( :ras: Jimnik 10-14-2006, 03:03 PM Wow...I thought an upset was on the cards, but I didn't totally believe it would happen. Jimnik 10-14-2006, 03:09 PM Damn too bad Roddick sucks, i was really hoping to see a Andy-Ivan final. Ivan is doing his part but f'ing duck blew it. You have a huge prejudice that Fernando is a braindead and didn't deserve to win, I really hate your predisposition when start to talk :bs: about Fernando. When González is on, you can play well and still go down. This is what Roddick did today. Roddick himself said Fernando got the best of him today and that the better player won. Sometimes it's best not to speak if you're not informed. Welcome to the club... :( Congratulations smart ass. This is what you get if you make the mistake of betting on González matches. General Suburbia 10-14-2006, 05:43 PM Wow. Pleasantly surprised, I never imagined he would be able to beat Roddick. ShimSham 10-14-2006, 05:43 PM The serve can only get you so far Andy. bavaria100 10-14-2006, 06:16 PM A great match from Gonzo and a well deserved victory! :yeah: Some of the shots he hit were absolutely phenomenal. Andy made progress, but he still makes the same mistakes that he did 1 or 2 years ago. I mean, he gets passed 18 times with a backhand passing shot. Still, he decides to attack on Gonzalez backhand side for the 19th time. It seems as if he didn't notice that he always won the point when he attacked on Fena's forehand side. When a bird looks outside a window, the bird thinks that's his way to freedom. It flies against the window. After a few minutes, the bird tries it again and flies once again against the window. The difference is, that the bird realizes that it can't get past the window and stops trying. Does this mean a bird is more intelligent than Andy? :tape: Peoples 10-14-2006, 06:30 PM Andy made progress, but he still makes the same mistakes that he did 1 or 2 years ago. It depends on how deep Roddick got his approach shot. To the BH was the right way to go and he won a lot of points this way, getting a deep FH approach in to Feña's BH. You certainly don't want to get Feña into the rhythm of hitting FH many passing shots in a row, he is very good at that. scarecrows 10-14-2006, 07:52 PM wicked this news made my day bearable tangerine_dream 10-14-2006, 08:12 PM So the "forehand" beats the "serving machine", eh? Well, I'm not terribly upset about Andy losing to Gonzo. He lost to a tough, quality opponent. Their matches are always entertaining. I'd be more upset if Andy lost to a no-talent like Ljubiclown. I knew Gonzo would be a problem for a Andy today: he's getting better as a player and more consistent and their matches have always been hard fought and close. Gonzo was due for a win over Andy anyway and frankly, I'm glad it happened here and not in Cincy. So congrats to Gonzo, I hope he can win the whole thing now he needs a title badly, and good job to Andy on a great week. :bigclap: Hopefully he'll build on this and do great in Madrid. P.S: Where are the Roddick fans that they said this match was decided before it played??? :p Which Roddick fans said that? If anything, we all ignored his match with Melzer and moved right on to Gonzo. A slumping Roddick dispatches Gonzo twice this year (plus again in Cincy) but now that he's playing better he loses? I don't get it. One reason I jumped on the Gonzo bandwagon this summer was because the only times Andy played great was when he faced Gonzo. After Gonzo was gone he'd go back to slumping. I don't know why Gonzo brought out the best in him but he did. Not this time though. Oh, well. on GRASS.. that's why ¬_¬ and Gonzo just run out of gas in Cincy after 3 HC SF Wow. Pleasantly surprised, I never imagined he would be able to beat Roddick. Have people already forgotten that Gonzo beat Roddick on the slickest court of all: the Olympics 2004? The serve can only get you so far Andy. At least Roddick is finishing points up at the net nowadays. What's Ivan doing besides picking his nose? 2 wins were on American soil and the other one on grass where Fernando sucks. Hardly a surprise Roddick lost on European soil. Do you actually write your posts with a straight face? :haha: Bilbo 10-14-2006, 08:17 PM A slumping Roddick dispatches Gonzo twice this year (plus again in Cincy) but now that he's playing better he loses? Neely 10-15-2006, 12:10 PM Roddick was almost useless in the first set because he left his forehand side open too wide and then Gonzalez who only made two unforced errors the whole set punished him with big shots into his open side. In the 2nd set the whole thing changed, Roddick played much better, Gonzalez' first serve dropped and it was easy for Andy to win it. The third set was the best and I couldn't say who would win it. Good to see was that both wanted the match. The tiebreak was the deserved highlight to end it. This time Gonzo finally won against Andy again, well done for him to scrape it out! :yeah: I hope Andy at least had some fun at this tournament and might come back next year again :) Golfnduck 10-15-2006, 01:43 PM ...He ruined my eagerly anticipated final between the best friends Ljubo and Andy :( :ras: I know, I wanted to watch those two duke it out. | |
