Well, I live in Argentina, and they are supposed to show the tournament on tv and online, and it's been postponed.
No one's playing right now and no one will play till the rains stops.

I did a very foolish thing. I bet on Gasquet to beat Verdasco. Verdasco has been playing pretty poorly of late but I should have known better than to trust Gasquet. Oh well - live and learn

Its true Marko but even if Richard somehow comes through it wasnt a very bright selection. Id consider myself very lucky to survive that one.

Canas is great player to watch its true. My favorite match at wimbledon that i went to in 2002 was lopez vs canas. lopez won but they both played joyful tennis.

Butterfly, this is off topic but regarding Feliciano, aside from Federer I don`t think there is an active player who plays a more attractive grasscourt game than Lopez. I am jealous of anyone watching the Canas-Volandri match, either on TV or at the centre court. It does sound a good match up. I would also like to see Willy come back - not for financial reasons but just mostly cause i admire the way battles back from injuries with such spirit.

That is a shame for Guillermo. I think it must always be tough for a player to lose 1st round in one`s home tournament. But Volandri is in good form. Canas has nothing to be ashamed of and he will bounce back. He`s one of the most resiliant players out there.

BeadierPS14 you are very amusing, I am sure all serious tennis punters would be well aware of the strides that Volandri has taken over the past 12 months as well as the great recovery Canas has made. At the top of their game Canas would have an edge over the italian, with a few more months under the belt Canas should again be a force on the circuit.

Neely

BeadierPS14
02-17-2004, 01:25 AM
I am amusing? I was rather sarcastic! I don't know what's the big buzz about Canas...his run at the AO was rather a fluke. Had Henman won that match, we wouldn't have led this conversation...but it was a twist of fate mixed with good ol' Henman's choking!
Whatever...Probably you thought the same think about Kuerten last year when he played the IW final..."oh Kuerten is gonna throw the bomb again in this year's tour" Meh guess what, that didn't happen!
And I'm not saying Canas will do that bad. But after all he is getting older plus he is/was a doper :).

BeadierPS14, I don't know what you want.
Fact is, for me and lots of other fans and supporters, Cañas is one of the biggest fighters on the tour and also one of the most exciting players. That's what it's all about....

Ando
02-17-2004, 01:46 AM
if you recall he had rather deccent 2001-02 where he showed that he can match it with most players on all the surfaces, he is more equipt than Volandri at being a consistent player all year round. Besides, Volandri has one of those serves that really limit his game, if he could improve on that he will achieve a lot more.

Chris Seahorse
02-17-2004, 01:53 AM
Beadier 1st of all I fully appreciate how well Volandri is playing. The match always looked a 50-50 proposition to me. It is certainly not a match i would have ever considered betting on. And while I find Sanguinetti a far more interesting player to watch, as far as the Italian players are concerned, i still have enormous respect for Volandri`s game.

However I have to say your comments on Canas make you look extremely foolish. Canas has previously made the 4th round of Wimbledon and the French Open so making the 4th round of the Australian could hardly be considered a fluke. Nor could his beating Henman be considered a fluke. He had previously beaten Henman at the French Open (also in 5 sets) and at the US Open (in straight sets.) As far a Canas your comment that Canas is getting older, in so far as every single player on the tour, as well as you and I, well, yes he is getting older. But he remains 26 years old. Which is normally when a tennis player reaches the peak of his ability. And the drugs? He has never been found guilty of taking any illicit drugs. If you want to speculate thats fine. But it would be just as easy to speculate that Volandri has built up his muscles quite quickly. I don`t want to suggest that i think Volandri is on anything but it`s very easy to make accusations without knowing anything. I would be the first person to acknowledge that i do not have any inside information. Therefore i would not make any lazy ignorant accusations. Think about it. Be glad your player won but try and carry yourself with a little more dignity in the future.

BeadierPS14
02-17-2004, 02:05 AM
Ando, you are wrong. Volandri is equiped very well too! He has a mesmerizing backhand and a great forehand...super feel of the ball. His ground strokes are working just superb...so well that it will pay off on hard courts pretty soon so....As far as his serve...we can compare it to Schalken's, yet he has achieved some good stuff in his career!

Neely

Hehe what are you bashing me so hard? Just coz Canas lost! Just for the record, I pretty much like Canas and his game is so admirable. Filippo just happens to be my favorite player since last year. And Chris Seahorse, drop the "foolish" comments. I think my argument was good. Ok maybe it wasn't a fluke, but really, did someone expected him to go that far? No! But all of a sudden he pops out and I find myself here reading your stuff, and how you try to prove how wrong I am and how good Canas is. Canas is really good player, ok?
