Great choice for the Russians. All they need to do now is show up fit, physically as well as mentally, which in most cases is a huge question mark.

David is still going to be a threat to take 2 matches IMO especially if Youzhny doesn't play due to an injury.

Are they going to play Youhzny or Tursunow? I think both of them are better than Davydnko on carpet.

I agree. If I were the Russians, I would choose any of them instead of Davydenko. I think Tursunov has the kind of game that really troubles Nalbandian. I wouldn't be suprised if we are 0-2 the first day.

I'd play Marat n' Dima on day 1, and maybe Safin/Misha for the doubles, unless Dmitry makes drastic improvements on his backhand volley!!!

Unless Safin wins Madrid, Metz and Paris, then he is still likely to be number 2 barring injuries meaning he plays Nalbandian on Day 1.

Only time Russia has ever won a final when they were away, they shat themselves twice at home.

Right choice given that Safin plays the best on carpet and Dima's game is suited to carpet as well. I guess Safin and Dima are a lock for the first two matches.

Yeah, it didn't loook good but don't forget he played against the best doubles team in the world. I don't think Argentina has a team which is even close to the level of Bryans brothers.

This by no means is a closed deal, i think Nalbandian will win both his matches he plays much better away in DC, less pressure. It will all come down to the doubles where I think Argentina can win. As for the other singles players, Calleri is good on fast surfaces but not as good as the 4 Russians, Acasuso has long loopy swing on both sides that is what fucks him up on fast hard court.

The Bryans clearly had the upper hand in that match, but Dmitry's high UFE count helped them a lot, esp. off the backhand side at the net.

So we agree that Dmitry's backhand volley IS a weakness, and therefore, he should be replaced to strengthen Russia's chances in winning the doubles rubber?;)

We agree that it's a weakness and we will agree on a second part only if Argentina bring the doubles team of Bryans level, i.e. capable of exposing the weaknesses... How about that statement! ;) :wavey:

Not a closed deal, but almost closed. Argentina has no #2 on carpet and I don't think they can win doubles. In fact, I think fat Dave has no chance on carpet, doesn't matter if Safin or Tursunov is playing.

Nalby's in trouble if Marat is in form. Marat only loses to people he is supposed to beat. When he's the underdog, he's amazing.

And Tursunov is the only "good" grass player in the Russian team.

Marat has the game to play well on grass and he would forget his mental issues for the Davis Cup ;)
