Great win. This year is really great for him. He won about 4 big Futures, got some good wins in challengers and even reached the second round in Rosmalen and now Bangkok. In Rosmalen he lost badly to Lee, so I hope Schuettler can beat Lee to give Zverev a better chance.

I've never seen this kid play, but his results recently have been good.

So JCF avoids me slagging him off (just!)

I wonder if Zverev plays serve & volley with his second serve also on ATP level.

I thought Zverev was a journeyman:o
Not bad for a 19 year old on his second atp tournament.

Damn JCF, WTF? He's never going to regain his form. Ever. It a shame, he had so much potential...

He's a hardcore serve-and-volley player. I saw him in Hamburg qualies. He lost to Mónaco in three sets. Mischa broke Mónaco's service almost every time. But he always lost his own service as well, because he never could resist running to the net what - of course - didn't work very well on clay...

:haha:   Ferrero, what an awful loss. Although Zverev is not a bad player, it is another embarassing and shocking loss for JCF. He is not in the same world as JCF :( JCF seems to have a few good wins, and then some real shockers that you wouldnt expect even from a player ranked 75-100

Yeah, but in all fairness he was a LL in Rosmalen.

But :woohoo: :worship: Mischa :worship:  He is a great player, so interesting to watch. I hope he goes far and keeps it up :worship:

i watched the first set,
Zverev was serving well, charges the net often and worked well.
but JC was also serving very well and both keep thier service game quite easily.
Some loose Zverev serves and UFs when serving 4-5 in 1st set
gave the first set to JC when the set looks destined to be dicided by tiebreak.

then i thought JC would run out winner and stop watching,
when i saw the result, well, the kid can do it. Good win

Here are some of the players JC has lost to this year:

Guccione (154)
Saretta (85)
Portas (122)
Gicquel (79)
and now Zverev (196)
All of them in the first round of tournaments. :o

He had 5 first round losses in 2005.
He has 7 first round losses in 2006, so far.

Is there any end to this downward spiral?

Sjengster

In fairness Gicquel was a second-round loss, though he did have to labour for four sets to beat Bastl in his opening match.

Jimnik

True.

But he's also had first round losses to Tursunov, Almagro and Mathieu.

Note the similarity - all very big hitters, and Ferrero seems to be punching above his weight against them. I'm still amazed at how he managed to put together such a great run in Cincy after his drubbing the week before against Gonzalez, he was just completely overwhelmed in that match and looked like he had no weapons at all. I don't believe he beat Blake, Nadal and Robredo back-to-back just because all three were in bad form, though it certainly wasn't their best that week. He still has some points to defend from Vienna in the upcoming tournaments too.

Thats one hell of a loss for JC, but what he really needs to do is learn how to cope with big hitters and big servers. JC has a top notch game, he's already proven that to us by getting to number 1, but it seems like he can't be bothered trying against anyone who has a big serve, or he can't be bothered trying against anyone ranked lower than himself. What he needs is a draw where he gets top 10 players the whole way through, right now i would rather see him draw Federer in the first round, rather than see a qualifier. But still I think we will see the return on JCF, and he will get back into the top 5. He's still young, theres still time. Better luck next time JC

hehe, I can't see any reason not to believe in him, he's good enough to be there, he just isn't living up to his standards. They say all good things must come to an end, so why can't things work the other way round.
