Sheer agony for a set and a half with Volandri putting up one hell of a fight but he got the job done.

Congratulations Rafa! :)

Volandri choked away second set. Rafa playing pretty badly and serving at 4-5 0-30 on second serve. Volandri can't take the point or the set.

Still, well done for the fight Rafa.

It always seems like the other guy chokes away the match to Nadal, but after so many times you have to start giving credit to him for refusing to lose, and willing his way back from some deep holes he has gotten himself into, rather than just chalking it up as yet another choke job against Rafa.

Congrats Spain...

Volandri is indeed back  A win over Robredo and nearly taking 2 sets off Nadal...and he has reached QF or better in his last 3 clay tournies :yeah:

If Volandri played always the same way he has done today in the first two sets then he would have already won several masters series on clay.

The first two sets of him have been amazing except the end of the second. He was a machine of making winners with forehands , backhands , volleys , dropshots ...

Possibly among his two best sets ever

Congrats to Spain... a predictable result this time.

A great effort by Filippo anyway, he never gave up and played very well in his singles matches.

Congrats to Spain, as I said before Volandri should have played last year when he might make a difference, but hypotheticals do not count.
