So happy to have news!!In french of course!...

thank you clem!
I can't go on seb's french site also...
I imagine seb following the davis cup on the net. It's so "stressful" (can we say it like that in English, I don't know, maybe the french will understand!!) to see just the score and not knowing at all what's happening.
And about the problems with french team and what guy forget said, seb seems to not be aware about it, that's what he says... It's very frustrating to know something going bad in french team but actually not knowing what it is about at all...
what do you think about it?

So, it's ok, he loves his wife too, Lizan...lol
But i guess he likes to take charge of his kids, to be alone with them even if it's rare. The last year he had brought his daughter some days in dysneyworld, for making up for his absences... it seems (according to his wife) that he's a doting father...

GGRRAAA!!! Another great entry about Grosjean, but in French! I understand most of it, but what in the world is 'boission' and what does he answer? And what's with the greatest weakness? He's what? Lazy? Stubborn? Shy? Please, someone (ahem...Esther?) translate this!

Lizan
02-13-2004, 05:57 PM
Yeah it's soo obvious that he loves his wife.. It must be hard for him to always be away from his kids.. Maybe he is faking his injuries to be with them lol.. No I'm just kiddin.

crystal
02-13-2004, 06:31 PM
ulla, "boisson" means "drink". His favourite drink is "la mauresque" (traditional drink in the South of France).
and his greatest weakness is laziness...

Marine

wilma
02-13-2004, 07:07 PM
Isn't that a liqueur that tastes like anise?

Marine
02-13-2004, 07:10 PM

ok sorry this has taken a couple of days but i have been busy but good to hear from him!!

:D

Sebastien is goign to start training on the 21st of Feb after having to take time off due to his leg injury. The number one french player followed the first round DC tie on the INTERNET in Boca Raton. He talked to us after France won.

Sébastien, you left Australia 2 weeks ago after having to pull out due to your injury. How are you feeling at the moment?
I'm still resting. I have an IRM scan on the 17th of Feb to see when i can start training again. But otherwise, yeah everythings good. I'm having a good time with my family and i'm playing a bit of GOLF.

If you pass the MRI scan, when will you be fit to start training again?
Probably the 21st. Thierry will have to come on the 20th. I hope i'll be able to ready for INDIAN WELLS on the 8th of march.

Even from the beginning of ur career, you have been regularly injured.
Have you tried to think up solutions to prevent this during your time off?
(THEY HAVE TALKED ABOUT THIS A HUNDRED TIMES...NOTHING WORKS!!! He is cursed  )
Well i've only been injured for two years. I sprained my ankle in 2001 and since then i've been injured 3 times. Every time its been a problem with my muscles. Before then i didnt really have any major problems. I had small things but never anything serious until then.

What do you think about taking a physio with you to tournaments?
Last year, Arnaud and i had one with us during the big tournaments. There were two phyios for the french team who came to the master Series tournament and Grand Slams. With the other tournaments, i decided to take someone who would be there for me.

You spoke of Arnaud clement. He led the French team to victory last week during the DC. Did you follow the tie?
I had to follow it on the internet. In the USA, they only showed Austria vs USA. I spoke to the guys after the matches tho. It was great to have qualified for the second round.

You are goign to have to play Switzerland next round. Roger Federer will be in the team. How do you think it will go?
Federer is number one in the world. To win we're going to have to win 3 points, without counting one agaisnt Roger. Winning our two matches against the number two player and the doubles, then that's how we're going to win. it's going to be difficult though. But in any case, we are mates with them. It's always a pleasure to play against them. Even though we lost to them last year, it was a good tie. (Arnaud was sayign how awful it was in his last interview!)

Sunday night, after winning the tie, Guy Forget started up a bit of a controversy. Were you expecting it?
No because i wasnt with the group. I dont really know what he said. Apparently it was big news though. Everyoen was talking about Guy not choosing Fabrice that that annoyed the team and Guy. But all the players are behind our captain.

Thanks for the translations, all of you! So he is a lazy dog, I just knew it!
What's with this controversy in DC? Just Santoro not playing in the doubles, or is there more trouble?

Thank you Esther for translating. Playing golf? Yuk! Why do all those tennis players play golf? And yes, like Ulla I'm curious about what's going on with the French Davis Cup team. Hate all that mysterious stuff!

yeah theres this whole thing with Guy Forget and he thinks that they would have sacked him if they lost that tie and he doesnt think thats fair.

Maybe they're all moving into their Sean Connery phase a bit early??? To quote a certain actor named Ewan MacGregor when he was confronted with playing golf! Golf has become quite a trendy sport, hasn't it? Golf courses pop up everywhere! So boring!

And flying kites, I bet ;)

Alison
02-16-2004, 02:40 PM
Hey I never thought of that Wilma! ;)

You're usually not allowed to mountainboard on golf courses, and often get chased off,so a quick getaway i.e. a mountainboard,is a very good idea!:p

Kites take too long to pack away, and there's usually too many trees on golf courses. :( ,but football pitches are very good for kites ;) and hospital casualty departments are good for relaxing in after kite flying ;)

Hi everyone,

Today I found this article in my office news archive system. It dated back back to 1999- almost 10 years ago!

I don't know if it's ok to post this in here but I don't want to start a new thread, so I just keep it under "interview" ;)

Enjoy!

Grosjean matures to stand on brink of victory

Byline: Reuters

FROM the ashes of all the seeded players who got burned at this year's Lipton Championships a star may have emerged.

Sebastien Grosjean, who telegraphed his great potential by becoming the 1996 junior world champion in both singles and doubles, stands on the brink of his first pro title after an unexpected run to the Lipton final.

"I'm going to play my first final on the Tour and it is a Super 9," marvelled the 20-year-old Frenchman, referring to the tournament's ranking as just below a major.

Grosjean, who won his first tour match only 13 months ago in Marseilles, had created quite a stir here.

He ousted former French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten in the second round and raised some eyebrows in the round of 16 when he upended the reigning Roland Garros king, top seed Carlos Moya, knocking the Spaniard not only out of the tournament but off his lofty perch as world number one.

"It's like a dream, I play my best tennis," said Grosjean in near disbelief over his good fortune. "I played some very great players. It's wonderful for me."

After defeating Spaniard Francisco Clavet in the semifinals, only former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek stands in his way.

Ranked a career-high 74th in the world, Grosjean could vault to around 30th with a win over the Dutchman who picked off Pete Sampras in the quarter-finals.

Win or lose, Grosjean is the first Frenchman to reach the final in the event's 15-year history and the first unseeded finalist since American David Wheaton in 1991.

Grosjean chuckled when naming the player he most admired as a youngster, an athlete whose game his is decidedly not modelled after.

"Stefan Edberg was my favourite player, but I don't play like him," Grosjean said. "Maybe I'm more like Michael Chang because I'm smaller, like him."

At only 1.75 metres, Grosjean can be reminiscent of Chang in his need to cover a lot of court quickly and counter-punch from the baseline. Unlike Chang, the young Frenchman does not appear to be allergic to the net, taking the opportunity to go on the attack when it presents itself.

Grosjean will need all his speed and shots to outwit the big-serving Krajicek, who followed his upset of Sampras with a very convincing victory over Australian Open runner-up Thomas Enqvist of Sweden.

Krajicek, the seventh seed in search of his 17th career title, is not taking his unseeded opponent lightly.

"I think Grosjean is dangerous because he's an aggressive player," Krajicek said. "He can take it a little bit to you. He's aggressive on his passing shots also."

And now he is aggressively seeking his first big time trophy with the promise of better things to come.

Some news about him in lequipe. He's motivated and asked a WC for AO to the FFT but also to the AO. He says he would like to play Brisbane and Sydney. He will train near Tampa with guys like Fish or Isner the week and come back to Boca Raton the wee-end.
