I'm really new to tennis and I was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips. I mean I have played with friends a few times but not really serious. How did you guys get started? Did you teach yourself, or did you have instruction? I was thinking about getting lessons, but then I wasn't sure if that would be the best idea. Anyway I was just looking for some advice, seeing how I know the game of tennis, but I don't really know how to play. Thanks for your time!

Maybe take some clinics or group lessons, they tend to be a lot cheaper than lessons and for a beginner thats all you really need. If you intend to get serious about it then maybe a few private lessons would be good and maybe try to join a league or just find a group about your level and go from there.

Thanks. I appreciate the help! Yeah I was thinking about taking group lessons.

I have discovered the following site that talks about serving in tennis:

Hope this can improve your game.

check and see if your local county/town's recreation department offers group lessons, those usually come at a very reasonable price, they offer them here...

Find your nearest tennis club and take coaching/lessons.

If your new to the game go out with some friends and have some fun!
The more you play the better you will get....even without any instruction
you will adjust your playing style and will get a `feel` for the ball.

Play some matches and enjoy this fantastic game!

If you feel your getting the bug then consider going to some local
clubs....most will offer free taster sessions or open days which is
great for meeting new people, playing some tennis and finding out
information on what each club offers. (With no money to spend :) )

Bring a few friends along.....and when you think you would like to
play tennis regularly join a club and get involved in there club nights
and coaching programme, then a coach can get involved in developing
your technique and game!

You will never look back....may I be the first to say welcome to the best
sport in the world!!
