Baghdatis isn't playing to defend his runner up points?

BTW, Regarding entry lists, whens players are added to the lists have they been confirmed or should we expect a slew of players to drop out?

1st Wild Card - Juan Martin del Potro :)

1st Wild Card - Juan Martin del Potro :)

WTF!!!

In all the other countries in this worl, the tournaments give their WCs to home players except in switzerland!!! That's a shame!

I know that chiudinelli will get one but guys like bastl, bohli and lammer also deserve one!!!

I'm really angry at the tournaments organizers! F... them!!!

Bastl is an old timer and im sure they will get more attention from media and fans with Del Porto.

I don't really think that the crowd would prefer del potro as you probably know most crowds are not people who that much of tennis and I don't think most people there will know who young del potro is whereas they'll probably all know who bastl is... :wavey:

A shame they give it to Del Potro. I like Juan Martin, but there are plenty of Swiss players that would dream of a WC and could make good use of it. I am guessing the management was involved. It happens a few times on the WTA Tour, where the management agency Octagon has the right to hand out a WC. We saw that in Luxembourg with Gullickson and Raymond, and in Rosmalen with Gullickson. Now, I love Carly :hearts: but I don't understand why she gets the WCs ;) I think it may also be the case with Tatishvili in the US.

I now wonder who's gonna get the last one?

It'll either be bastl, bohli or lammer I guess!

I hope stephan will finally get one as he already deserved one in gstaad and they stupidily prefered to give it to roshardt!!! Don't get me wrong I like robin but I think he hasn't proven anything at te pro level yet!

bohli really needs one to get some points back since he unfortunately got hurt while he was climbing the rankings!

I hope they give it to Michi ;) But he hasn't been that good, so he doesn't deserve it. JC has done well the last few weeks, but he's not good enough for main draw IMO.

Well you know my views on Wild Cards always going to locals who probably won't go past the first round - I hate it  - so I'm personally thrilled about the Wild Card for Juan, and it means I can go to Basel for a few days myself after all :) As for the decision - well I have no idea if this is true or not - but rumour is that he got the Wild Card because Roger Federer specifically asked for it for him :) Roger was practising with Juan in Madrid - and he was so impressed by his talent that he personally phoned the Chairman of the Committee in Basel and asked them to give him a Wild Card.

Really!?!

I agree that sometimes it is stupid to give locals WCs but when the guys are very young (à la donald young ;) ) or when they have a bad ranking (higher than 300). But bastl is around 150 and bohli was 240 before he got injured and could well have made it to the MD in the usopen! He beat very good players and well ranked this year (in indoors, andresieux)! I think both of them could deserve a WC. As for lammer, I agree he hasn't played very well the all year!

Anyway, good for del potro and good luck to him!

Thanks  I love the Basel tournament and look forward to my visit there. And I admit I know nothing about Bohli - but I have seen Bastl play many times (I was actually at the Wimbledon match a few years ago when he beat Sampras!) and he is a very talented guy.

bohli was U14 orange bowl winner and around the 3 best U16 european players! He got his highest ranking (~230) when he was only 20 but got injured in car accident (with lammer) the next year. Since then he troubled to regain his form and motivation till last summer (2005) and got back to business. Unfortunatly for him he often has trouble with his back because of that car accident. Still I think he will be soon a top 200 and could even come near the top 100 by the end of next year! At least I hope so!

I hope you'll see him play in the qualies/main draw in basel!

Murray has played 26 tournaments the entire season. That is enough to drain anybody!!!!! He needs a good off season, and yes fatigue from the long season is a reason why he will probably withdraw.
