Well done Marc :yeah:
And he reaches the first 3rd round in a Slam of his career :clap2:
He deserves it so much!

Oh dear :o

The match wasn't televised but judging by the score, JCF was totally outplayed. Gicquel held all his service games with relative ease while JCF was constantly under pressure on his own serve.

And Federer is sitting in front of TV and laughing as f*ck...

Tell me please - was it that JCF so bad or Gicquel so brilliant? I think the first one, but who knows. As I could see on sb in the last set JCF was defending many BPs while the frenchman was easily passing through

JCF never really got into this tournament. He was reported to have been angry throughout his 1st round match.

It doesn't sound like he was fully focused on his tennis.

FYI:
That's 5 slams in a row now that JC has lost to someone older than him.

I saw the first two sets of that match and Marc really took it to JCF. I never heard of him before, so I was quite surprised and so was the crowd...the majority was rooting for JCF.

Cincinatti wasn't a joke... Nadal on that surface on that day was a joke.

Well done Gicquel. Better late than never. The guy started on the circuit at 24 though...;)

Thats not true. If Ferrero wasn't top 25 material, he wouldn't be in the top 25 right now. So what, he lost one match, he'll win the next match he plays :p

i admire the positve outlook from a fan, but in reallity ferrero is not a world class player
that is not even debatable
how many top players has he beaten in the last 2 years?
how many sets he won against them?
hes solid atp player, nothing more
hes either not dedicated enough, or not hungry enough, or just not good enough anymore
hes good, but hes not world class he used to be
sorry fan

yeah i get what you're saying, but the fact that he has managed to keep his ranking around that mark, and he has shown that he can beat top players (he just won't make a regular habit of it) shows me that he deserves his ranking. However if he wants to get further up in the rankings, then he needs to win against top players more regulary

Ferrero needs to play against good players, then he plays well...If he plays against some unknown he loses...
Just look at Cinci, the only guy he actually had some troubles with until the final was Bjorkman, who thankfully retired in the first match...
From then on Ferrero was king...He just needs bad draws at grand slams, only then he stands a chance! :D

You're a Ljubicic fan, aren't you? You, of all people, should know that one shouldn't jump to conclusions because of a crap loss to a crap player. Ljubicic and Ferrero will both want to forget US Open 2006, but these losses don't mean that they're scewed for the rest of their careers.

JCF can compete with the top players - as he's shown many times this year. But he's also had some very poor performances against low-ranked players this year. These players seem to bring the worst out of him: Saretta, Portas and now Gicquel have beaten him this year while Costa, Shuettler and a guy called Eleskovic (ranked 500) have given him close matches this year.

He's been very volatile this year. He needs to find a way to perform better and not under-estimate his lower-ranked opponents.

To a certain extent, I think this is right on.

JCF has had a year full of good draws and in Cincinatti he finally had a difficult draw.

yes, i am a ljubicic fan, but not in mtf criteria ( die hard, wont accept poor form, shitty play, stupid statements, my player is mother theresa and god in one - type of fan )

go to history of my posts and you can easilly find out what i have been saying about ferrero during cinncy
sure, one defeat means nothing, but this is going on for 2 years or so
only blind people cant see that

as far as comparation
ivan is a medal winner at the olyimpics, davis cup winner, won most live rubbers in history of dc, played couple ams finals, won tournaments, played amazing tennis during long stretches of season, on most of the surfaces, played masters in china etc.
i dont think you can compare them

mind you, ivan is playing like shit since wimbledon
still he has to play like that untill the end of the season to put him in same context like jcf
he has to have a little bit more credit after 18 months of amazing results

ferrero is not done, but if continues to play like in the last 2 years, than yes, hes pretty much done with world class tennis ( top 10, gs, winning tournaments, beating top players )
