Umm... Sorry if I'm late to the party, but yeah I just saw that B. Becker beat Grosjean today and so I have to ask...

Boris Becker is back?

Wtf. I know he must have announced it, but I missed it, so to me, this is like if you woke up and saw that J. McEnroe defeated someone at the USO today...

Who was the last guy who beat Agassi? Stoppini or something like that? Dear God, after two brilliant matches, I hope Agassi doesn't end up losing to this Becker dude.

I'm fearing exactly the same thing. After all he'll have some trouble recovering from this match and Becker seems to be playing well.

Only fitting considering he beat Boris twice at the U.S. Open that his namesake gets some watered down revenge on his behalf ;)

is becker good?

He's taken a pretty brisk path up the rankings since turning pro after winning the NCAA's. Yesterday was the first time I saw him play, and I must say I was extremely impressed. Big first serve (and served over 60%), very good second serve, and a very strong game off the ground. He literally blew Sebby off the court, and it didn't look like it had so much to do with Sebby being tired following his five setter.

That said, if Agassi's body is willing, I would suspect the moment will get to Becker and Agassi would take him in three.

Becker could be dangerous for Andre, especially after Andre's last two gruelling matches. Becker is a good upcoming player, won some challengers and had good results this year, and already had good wins this tournament. I wont be writing off his chances by any means. It would be a shame if Andre lost his last match to Benjamin Becker though.

A guy who is extremely aggressive like Becker is can win or lose to a lot of people, that being said he hasn't been on a stage like this before. Of course if Benjamin has the same weaknesses Boris has then he is probably very distracted hanging out in NYC ;)

I think Andre wins. Stage will be a little big for Bennie and right now he is playing a little above his normal ability.

BUT

I will be one of the handful cherring for Becker.

He played at Baylor and won the NCAA single's championship as well as helping to win the team title. He is a class individual who representes the school very well. He and Benedict Dorsch helped create a national collegiate powerhouse at Baylor and both are some of the hardest working, nicest guys I have met. They were always appreciative of the opportunity they got to play tennis collegiatly.

Bennie's power serves seem to be a new addition to his arsenal and aren't something we saw too much in college. I am not sure if he will be able to get them as strong and accurate considering the stage he is on. He has been in pressure situations and exceled at the highest level of college ball, but this will be a whol new experience for him. One he is surely enjoying. He is a very bright kid and surely knows the magnitude of the situation he is in.

I think he wins one set and makes it at least some work for Andre, but I don't think he pulls it out in the end. If he does though, Agassi fans, such as myself, can atleast take comfort in his last match being against a class individual and a good person.

The decade+ didn't help Baggy. But yes, it will depend on how Andre's back holds up. It would be really tragic if he has to retire in his last tournament due to a suspect hip/leg/back

But I think he's praying for rain today to give the back extra time to recover.

Agassi had a tough match against Baghdatis, and I have a feeling that Andre might have problems with playing a nobody and that it's easier for him to win against someone popular on the tour.

If he's recovering well, he should win though. But German players are always good for a surprise. Nalbandian getting pushed to 5 sets by #128 in the world.

we will see.

I dread this match if only because of the list of dumb jokes about Andre playing "B Becker from Germany" that you just know the commentators have already got waiting and will use at every opportunity, thinking themselves very clever.

I'll go for Agassi in 4 sets. I was desperate for Andre to lose to a quality player rather than some nobody who he would have annhilated in his prime. If he can clear this Becker hurdle, that is guaranteed. Roddick in the 4th round. Certainly it was much easier for me to see Rafa beat him at Wimbledon rather than someone like Jurgen Melzer or Jiri Vanek.

Becker is a good player. He has a chance. He's come up from the Futures to make it to the main tour. He's a former NCAA champion, spent four years in college, and is making in a world filled with guys who turned pro at 18 years old or younger. I am not writing him off and consider him a serious threat to Andre.

I'd love to see Andre win this match. Then he'd play Roddick, right? I think he'd beat Roddick's ass!

If Agassi is healthy he will probably win, but I do agree with those who are saying that most people are underestimating Becker.

Becker only entered the ATP rankings less than a year ago. He's ranked a little over #100 at the moment, but that's not a true reflection of his strength because he's been consistently rising. I'm not sure what his potential is because he's already 25 and quite old for a "new" player, but he's had quick success wherever he's gone - NCAAs, futures, challengers, and now he's making inroads on the main tour. I wouldn't bet on him but I would not be shocked if Becker pulls it out.
