In the past era, I was a fan of Pete's and in this era, Bagdhatis is one of my favorites. Agassi was never one of my faves but I respect the guy A LOT....his sportsmanship, his character, his persona on and off-court are really admirable traits. So for this match, even though I want Baghdatis to win, I also want a fairy-tale ending for Andre, especially since this is his last tour. I want to see all the emotions on this match. So, I hope Agassi will win and will get a great, meaningful Open for him and for all his fans and for all tennis & sports viewers around the world. :hatoff:

If Marcos was in the same form as he was earlier in the season then Baggy all the way but Andre will fight him to the death and in the end the magician will find a way to win. It will be a great match with two great personalities and tennis players.

Marcos will win IF he snaps out of whatever was wrong with him on Monday . . . he was out to lunch . . . not moving well at all, his return was atrocious, not focused . . .

It would be better for Marcos not to win this match. At least if he wants to leave the stadium alive

When I saw the draw for the first time, I was pretty sure that Marcos will beat Agassi. This has changed a bit after the Pavel-match, but I still think Baghdatis will succeed.

Anyway, beating Agassi and the crowd can become a very important step in his career. It would give him tons of self confidence. I'm convinced that there's much more for Marcos to win than to lose.

I'm a huge fan of Agassi so I really WANT him to win. Wanting and logic are two different things though.. The logical part of my being thinks that this may be it for him and Baghdatis will win, but the sentimental Agassi loving fool in me wants to believe that Agassi has it in him especially after seeing him play his last match. I think, for me, the sentimental side always wins, so I'm going with Agassi to win :)

Ashe with Andre playing is MURDEROUS for anyone playing against him. Roger almost cracked last year. I'm not sure if Marcos can handle being given a hard time by 23,000 people who want him to get whitewashed. We'll see, but I think Agassi in 4 anyway.

Baggy needs a big crowd on his side to do damage. He's going to be subconsciously less intense against Agassi, and even if he isn't, I think it will be tough for him to overcome the crowd. Agassi in four, maybe five.

I didn't really think of that at first. That crowd will worship him.

If Agassi is physically strong like he was against Pavel and he hits the ball like he was on Monday night, he has a very good chance of winning.

Baggy's pattern of UE's and missed 1st serves will not get the job done if Agassi is having that same type of ball-striking night. He was hitting the ball as well as anyone has all summer but was limited movement wise. Baggy should be patient and try to stretch Agassi out wide to the BH side which Agassi had particular difficulties getting too.

sentimental favourites seldom win, so don't let it cloud your judgement.
The bagman, lets face it, is playing better.
He should win.

I've heard on TV that Andre is having serious health problems after the 1st round match. TV said that he almost couldn't move. That means tomorrow we'll see if the physical trainer is a magician

I pick Andre to win. He really impressed me on Monday. He looked a lot like his 05 form that night, moving well and hitting well, and if he can keep that up, he has a very good chance. His problem has always been his movement, and it didn't seem like it was a problem on Monday night.

Baghdatis is great and all, but did het not struggle a ton in 1st round match??

Agassi did too, but he's only played a few matches this year, and he's grinding to get good form in a hurry.

I think Agassi can pull this one out.

The very idea of this match hurts me, as I love Marcos and I have been an Andre fan for twenty years. But I just don't think Andre has it in him. IF he's playing like he did Monday, and IF Marcos isn't playing that well (and is rattled by what is sure to be a voracious pro-Agassi crowd), maybe so but...I'll grit my teeth and pick Marcos.

Sorry Andre. I still love you best.

As I said in another thread:

"It is going to be really hard for Baggy. The crowd will be completely behind Andre if yesterday's match is any indication and may actually clap and cheer on Baggy's errors. Baggy derives a lot of his energy from a crowd that is behind him not against him. It will be a really good test of his mental game."

If rumors of Andre's injury are true then obviously Baggy has a better chance.

I think Marcos will win this. Agassi is not in good shape right now. The crowd is going to be a big factor in favor of Andre of course. On the other hand there are so many Greeks in NYC that there might be a 'Marcos block'. ;)

I hate to say it but I believe Andre will gut out a tough 5 set win, I wouldnt call myself a big fan of Andre, but Marcos is truly one of the most overated players on the tour, will be a classic thats for sure cant wait to watch it.

I'd say this will be the most emotional victory of Agassi's career (apart from Roland Garros 99 obviously and Wimbledon 92 and US Open 94) cos if Agassi beats Baggy then his draw is easy (until he meets Nadal in Semis). Like I said before the tournament began, there is no way Agassi will lose to Roddick AND Connors, especially with a 5-1 head-to-head and a full head of steam.

Agassi already had to endure a lot of pain against Pavel. He couldn't even walk on Tuesday, so he spent the whole day in a hospital receiving an injection on his spine. Don't think he will be able to pull through against a top player like Baghdatis. And I've been expecting this match to be Agassi's farewell since I glanced at the draw.

Baghdatis in 4
