Roddick in form of his life: shock winner of USO 06

MY tip....this year is A=RODS year...he's only 24 years old, best opportunity for him to win it again

Of course his chances will be elevated if Fed gets knocked out. But i think he can beat Fed if he keeps his serving level up throughout the entire tournament. A red hot andy in 2003 form after all has beaten Fedz.

And yes the #3 debate ! A-ROD is the REAL no. 3!! look no further!

Andy looks really determined and hungry out there. Out of all the players he wants it the most.

Well at least he's not in Fed's half of the draw. I think this year is a real chance for him Go Andy!!!!!!!!

Why would it be a shock ? He won the most recent Masters tournament. He's the in form player righ now so I would not be surprised if he goes on to lift the trophy.

Not sure a 3rd favourite is a shock winner.

Andy Roddick has potentially the nasty semi-final; the one against Nadal. Federer potentially will have an easier semi-final. Could be wrong, but based on current facts I would say his is the more difficult semi-final.

I'd love to see Andy win the USO
and why shouldnt he have the confidence to do it - he won the last Masters event before the tourney so he can carry his game across and do really well in NY

It depends on Roger's form, I don't see him losing if he can get as far as the final. If Andy can at least make it to the final I'll be happy.

can't see him getting past nadal or federer, they would return his serve too well, outplay him the rest of the point.

it wouldn't be a shock if he won as he is 3rd fave and on the back of a TMS win, but with fed and nadal always expected to win as such strong favourites, it would be a minor shock if he won, let's face it he played either right now he'd be a big underdog

No shock there. He doesn't have an easy draw if the draw remains to form (or even if it doesn't remain to form but an energized Andre appears in R4), but he is one of the form players this HC season.
I would really like to see a Nadal-roddick SF, I think it's a lifetime ago in tennis terms to extrapolate from their previous meeting.

Federer does, but I'm not so sure about Nadal. He can be bullied around with a big serve, but he has improved in his ability to get back bigger serves.

The Nadal serve is poor compared most left handed players serve. A sliced left handed serve going to the Roddick backhand should be an ideal shot, particularly, the wide serve to the advantage court taking Roddick out of the court. However, the serve has improved and if used correctly could make it difficult for Roddick to break serve.

I'm dying to see that Roddick/Nadal match. They haven't played in so long, I think Andy might even be the favorite going in. His game would be too much for Nadal I think.

So, you are comparing the scenario where Roddick was at his best and Nadal was only 18 to the present situation? :retard: No offense but you need to watch tennis a bit more.

 Nadal's serve isn't that nasty, plus Andy returns better on his backhand side anyways.

I still think that Roddick has no chance of beating Federer. Interestingly when the two play, it is Federer who hits more aces and unreturnable serves, not Roddick. This shows that Federer's serve causes Roddick more problems than the other way round.
Roddick can beat Nadal. Nadal has shown that he is vunerable against a pacy flat hitter. The Blake defeats aren't a fluke. He doesn't like being rushed into making his shots. However Nadal's cross court forehand could cause Roddick's backhand problems. I think that that Nadal V Roddick would start as 50-50.

maybe you're right but i would still fancy nadal to break roddick's serve more then vice versa. having sad that roddick seems to have got back to knack of big serves on big points i.e break point down...which is so annoying for whoever he plays.

Form of his life? He won a masters series where pretty much all the big names didnt perform and half were tired from the previous week.

If Murray hadnt been playing for the 3rd week in a row and completely shattered he would have beaten Roddick and we wouldnt have all this rubbish raving about Roddick.

He's got no chance, and 3rd favourite is a joke imo

Oh god.
I keep reading :bs:like this on these boards and it is such a joke.
Nadal is a great player but there is absolutley no reason Andy couldn't kick Nadal's ass off a HARDCDOURT. :shout:

I want to see this match up and need it to happen so i can be proven right and people will stop being so damn foolish:lol: :)

I agree with you here.
It was good for him to win Cincy and regain his confidence, but it seems like things are getting a tad overhyped.

But I think he is a third favorite.
Who else is there?

Blake
Murray
Nalbandian
Gasquet

I would fancy these to beat Roddick more than 50% of the time

it's exciting that him and his fans are so enthused about his game and his prospects once again. It's been a missing ingredient in the tennis world that is in transition period, yet dominated by a Fedal duo . I like his fierce look and though his game is still limited overall , he can bring some spice and intrigue to the tour just in time

Maria is ok, but she is no Ivanovic (or MTF poster Partygirl. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/winking/winking0048.gif)
no where near it.

plus.. if your theory is correct, he didnt do to badly here 3 years ago when that Mandy Moore was with him.
