I don't care if you're not regular and you mix amazing wins with sad defeats, that's part of all the disadvantages of being your fan :o ;)
Congrats Tommy for a long time deserved ranking, as a fan I'm happy to see you fulfilled all your potential as tennis player, whatever that comes next now will be a great present... of course a Grand Slam would be very well received :p
Congrats Tommy fans, I know there're a bunch of you there in the shadows :wavey: ;)

Who's to say. It's not like Robredo is playing poorly, or has a shedload of points to defend until year-end. He might stick around longer than you think.

I'm just thinking that the 86-87 generation will soon pass him. When I'm saying 'not long' I'm thinking that next year by instance, he won't be in top 5.

He will have to make way in both the top 5 and 10 when the "real" quality; Ancic, Berdych, Djokovic, Hewitt, Murray and Gasquet make their movement into the top 10 in the next year.

I'm very proud of him ! He's been achieving so much since I've begun following him ! I know he's not like Feds or Rafa, winning every tournament he's listed in, but he's doing quite good at every tournament, so he definitely deserves his #5 spot !

Enhorabuena campeon ! :worship:

As far as I'm concerned, I have to disagree. Mentally, he's really stronger now he's won some important matches. Tennistically, he's improved his game too, he plays really good on every surface now...

But it's only my opinion ;)

yes, i agree...it seems to be a case of Roger, Rafa and then the rest and at the moment ppl like tommy, ljubo, davydenko & co are the best of the rest so they make it into the top 10. not blaming them, that's just how the circumstances are at the moment. they are not bad players but imo they are not top 5 or 6 material. i mean, for ljubo to be the world number 3 is seriously a joke.

the top 10 is not like it was a few years ago that's for sure..i can't believe marat is into the 100s now :bigcry:

Kudos for overachieving Robredo.

Considering that he's a top 5 tennis player in the world while most people his age can't even make contact with the ball, I suppose he is an overachiever.

Tommy and Nikolay are solid players who work harder than almost the entire rest of the tour, and all they get for it is bullshit. They deserve it more than any of the others.

Who should be top 5 instead? Safin? A guy who doesn't even make the effort or seem to care that he's so gifted? Hell, why don't we just let partyboy Flip in the top 5 while we're at it. This board seems to love players who waste their talent.

Do you want me to give a serious answer then I will just this once.

Ok, Thomas Muster and Felix Mantilla were among my favourite players of all time and these guys who made the top cause he was over talented. I accept that and they used what they had to the best of their abilities , so throw that bullshit line that I am part of the group that only likes talented players and I don't also don't care how they look either.

Next point, if you are going to address me do it individually and not as part of the group.

Has Robredo deserved to be where he is, the ranking reflects that. Has he overachieved in relation to his ability, he has done that and also there has been a levelling out of the field and he has taken advantage of that as he should have.

It was the same when Bj÷rkman and Rusedski were in the top 10 and there is a generational change with many talents that have been mentioned coming through at the moment, and once they mature there will be some of those that will be established in the top 10 and others maybe not.

It was the same then and will continue to be the way, there are always peaks and troughs. If they are good enough then they will hold their positions. Hewitt and Courier were transition champions, but they got there and deserved to get there and that applies to Robredo in the top 10, game is in transition and if he comes out the other side still able to hold his place, then good for him.

People talk about the players ranked #3-6 being jokes because there's such a huge gulf between them and #1/#2... but then how much of a joke does it make the players they claim should be in the Top 10 ahead of the current #3-6... even though they aren't anywhere near it? :tape:

for sure those players are even more of a joke than the current top 10. it's so sad to see talent being wasted, though injuries don't help either a lot of the time :(

Well done to Robredo for making the top 5. He has a good year and he deserves it. However I would like to see Ljubicic, Robredo, Davydenko, Blake and Stepanek exit the top 10 soon and be replaced by Ancic, Gasquet, Murray, Djokovic and Berdych. Then we'll having a exciting top 10.

No offense to anyone who is a fan of Robredo, but IMO, having Ljubicic at #3 and Robredo #5 doesn't really bode well for men's tennis. I think that there a few players that are better than those two but are unable to play as many tourneys due to some crazy ATP scheduling... But I dunno. IMO, Nalby/Hewitt/Roddick/Marcos/Murray/Blake are all better. But then again, maybe I'm wrong... Who's to blame for Roddick having a 2-year slump and Hewitt having seemingly chronic injuries?

Times will be good again when the top players are Fed, Nadal, Andy, Lleyton, Murray, Marcos, Djokovic, Gasquet... Safin? (no probably dreaming on that one)

Next point, if you are going to address me do it individually and not as part of the group.

The first part was to you, whether or not the second part was depends on whether or not it applies to you. Does it?

Has he overachieved in relation to his ability, he has done that

That doesn't make any sense. You can't acheive more than your ability would allow.

It's funny to me that people here are so quick to say what horrible players some of the top ten are. Give me a break. If you want your favorites to be there instead, tell them to win more matches.

Hehe^^

Besides, you guys are talking about injuries... but Tommy had his own, so being #5 today doesn't depend on other ppl's injuries... He's done it by himself !

But he's not a crowd favorite... so I guess he'll never get the respect he should get... That's all.
