This should be a fun 1st rd match. I hope we get some coverage of this match. I would love to see Novak eat Young up, and spit him out. :p

Walk in the park for Djokovic.

How many games do you think Donald Young will get? If I remember Djokovic right he takes forever to bounce the ball so the match will probably be longer than it should. I'm hoping for a triple bagel so tournament organizers will actually make him work in order to get into other tournaments instead of handing him the 1st round on a silver platter.

I know he got this WC b/c he won some junior tournament, but he gets way too many underserved wild cars. I don't understand what makes him get these Wild Cards into main draws while everyone else in the history of the sport has to work their way up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Chang win the French Open at 17? Why does Donald Young get a nice article in the Wall Street Journal and more hype and publicity than anyone else when he's yet to win a set in his undeserved wild card matches?

Novak seems to have something against dishing out bagels. I feel it'll be a 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 type affair.

Luckily the weather is quite cool :)

if they both play to their current abilities it would be one sided but Novak is far from predictable and capable of breaking down physically so it can get interesting . And yes i am sure it will be televised, a good portion of it anyway

Young will end up like Ginepri, that match at the French Open was outrageous.
I smell a triple bagel :)

safe to say that if Djokovic plays at his best, Young won't have too much of a chance. In general I think he's an overrated player.

In this Online version of the Deuce Magazine there was an Ad of Head with past and future Head champions... and there is also Young in it, and it's obvious that you ask yourself how he deserves to be there. Winning Junior Titles is fine, but that alone won't give him any advantage on the ATP tour.

I do think there's a fair amount of material in this forum to explain the hatred.

Do a search for previous Young threads.

Unless Djokovic is making a lot of errors, Young will be hard pressed to win 4 or 5 games. It is quite likely that a bagel will be dished out there tommorrow.

All the hating of Young is ridiculous though.

I like Young. He's fun to watch. I find it hilarious when he starts the match losing right at the start and simply gives up any hope of winning after 30 minutes.

I am kind of anxious a little, Donald has nothing to lose and may come with a different attitude and mindset. :scared: Novak was losing a lot also when he was 17 on the pro tour until one day it came together. Who says that Donald can't come out just today on monday as a new player ?

Novak is still young no pun intended and he is prone to giving away free points and the pressure of being favourite and seeded for the first time may be lingering in his head. Don't get me wrong, at best right now Novak wins convincingly but there are many factors at play including weather and stamina, haven't heard much about Donald having those kind of problems

The only way Djokovic loses is if health gives way, right? If Djokovic plays well, not a single player can beat him, all his losses are due to lack of stamina and breathing problems.

Top class first set from The Don, that's all I can say.

He totally outplayed Djokovic in every department, his groundies have been hugely impressive. Djokovic has been poor, far too many unforced errors but credit to Young.

First time I've ever seen Young play. The guy has potential. He strikes the ball so nicely - reminds me of Verdasco.

He might still lose but I think I'm becoming a fan.

Djokovic will stin the next three sets easilym but Young has improved quite a bit and looks to have grown a bit. He has more pop on his groundies and on his serve.

You shouldn't be.

Novak is playing better cutting down on
the errors more as that is the only reason
he lost the 1st set.

Imo and I am not a hater as it is the first time I have seen him play he is too weak at the current time to make an impact. He has made some nice shots but his set came from nole mistakes imo and the power difference is immense!

vincayou
08-28-2006, 06:46 PM
Well he has won a set. That's quite good for his confidence. The match is not over of course, but it doesn't look good right now, broken to love twice in the third...

Just got bageled. Young doesn't even count in the points imo, i mean it all depends on whether it's a miss or a winner from Nole.

Anyone else who has that female commentator who reads Djokovic as "Doykovic"?

Sorry, but Young will never be a top 5 player. Come on, he's already 17. Nadal with 17 years old was already one of the best players in the world!

You simply cannot make such an
assumption at this point.

Every player develops at
their own rate an in their own time.

Look at Blake.

The only fault I find with Young, is the people
around him parents, coach, & otherwise allowing
him to play the top level tour events when he is
so clearly not ready.

Yes, he did earn his WC here,
but so many wasted WC in many
other US tournaments.

He needs time and the proper torunaments
to develop and the atp is a place for him just now.

Young looks talented, incredibly moody, maybe slightly short to be top 5 player unless he's still growing. Good use of the angles, nice touch, long way to go before he's top 30.

return has more to do with reflex than power. Especially when you are a counterpuncher like Murray.

I really wish that his parents wouldn't have approached some of the situations the way they did.

He's still a kid, and he'll learn to control his game and his mouth. Leave hima lone.
