Calleri was pathetic on most of the big points. Davydenko was typical Davydenko, steady and frustrating from the baseline, not sure he hit a volley the whole match. Not much more to stay.

hahaha nice assessment FlashDeb - sounds exactly like a Davydenko match. Basically like watching paint dry or watch grass growing :banghead:

Basically like watching paint dry or watch grass growing :banghead:I don't dislike Davydenko, obviously he's unexciting, but he did what he had to do - played solidly and came up with good first serves on the big points. he was down a ton of BPs early in the first and hit a big serve on almost all of them. Then Calleri started falling apart and Davydenko just took advantage. :)

How come Kolya only wins tournaments right before the big ones? Portschasch (RG), Sopot (TMS Canada), New Haven (USO)

I would like to petition that the word 'outguns' should be banned from thread titles on MTF...

Let's see if Kolya can keep this momentum going for the Open.

figures..

he loosing in the first round, or 2nd round since he had a bye, last year

I know when alot of posters around here make fun of the current top10 and all that kinda crap, DavyD is one of the players they mock, but he building a very solid career as the years go by.
a real iron man as well, heard that this was his 25th event of the year + 2 davis cup ties

Anyway, good tournament Agustin!

I saw his wife, she's pretty fat now that she`s pregnant.

Is she nicknamed La Gorda?

With his first ever title coming on Rebound Ace (a very weak field in Adelaide that year, mind), he never was at any time really.

because nobody of the other top10 if they came to this tournaments before the big ones take seriously their participation and Kolya is the only one that plays every week of the year.

Davydenko is a tournament shark, like Zhenya Kafelnikov. In fact I see some similarities to their games; Kafelnikov had more power (esp. off that backhand which was sweet) and a much feebler brain. Yet he won two Slams. Go figure.

Congrats to Kolya. I think he has a reasonable chance to do well at the Open. He's in a section with a lot of talented guys but they tend to be unpredictable.

Congrats Davydenko, he is usually strong in these tournamnets just before the big events and he took full advantage of Calleri's inconsistency.

Great win for Davydenko. I like this guy, always have, and so often not given enough credit for either his wins, or trying week in week out. Never whines (as far as I know)about not being scheduled on the show courts at big events unless he goes deep into the draw. (Makes a note to send memo to Dima about giving him a mention!)

It wasn't a great match though, Nikolay won what he had to win and didn't allow Calleri to break him, although the Argentinian had his chances. I don't understand why wasn't Calleri putting any pressure on Nikolai, coming to the net etc. Lots of errors, lack of impressive shots, boring final

As to USO - I don't see Nikolai winning against Gonzo or Murray, funny thing is that Calleri has a quite lucky draw (of course unless JB stops playing shit)

Australian Open is Rebound Ace. Hardcourt Hack tends to be more about North American (fast) hardcourts, not the slow stuff in Australia.

Congrats Davydenko :yeah: He's a better player than he often gets credit for. Not that great a match though. I think the most entertaining moment came when the camera honed in on a section of the stands which had a big sign saying something like "J BLOCK : Getting ready to rock again in 2006!", and it was totally deserted :p
