PRESS RELEASE

24th August 2006

Announcement

The North Queensland Cowboys today terminated the contract of first grade player Mitchell Sargent after the player tested positive for using the illegal drug cocaine.

The club was notified yesterday that Sargent had tested positive in an “A” test conducted on Sunday.

As a result of failing the “A” test Cowboys CEO Peter Parr summoned Sargent to a meeting at the club yesterday. At that meeting, Sargent admitted using cocaine after the game on Saturday and waived his right to a “B” test.

Parr said the Cowboys would not tolerate recreational or performance enhancing drug use among its players.

“Mitchell Sargent had a promising career with the Cowboys until today. The message to our players is clear; use drugs and you are out.

“Recreational drugs are illegal and dangerous and performance enhancing drugs are used by cheats and frauds. There is no place for either at the Cowboys,” Parr said.

I just read something in the Townsville Bulletin about the NRL and drugs.
I think... unless I dreamt that.
