Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.

OK - I know David is still playing in New Haven - but the draw for the US Open is OUT - and David has Nicolas Almagro in the 1st round  Not good! Here is a link to the whole draw http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/draws/ms/r1s4.html

This made me laugh

6. Tommy Robredo: A nice enough player but pretty soft as far as sixth seeds go. Never done much on the American hard courts. Watch him anyway, if only for the retro touches: the '70s game, the short shorts and the Eric Estrada feathered hairstyle.

7. Nikolay Davydenko: If our math is right, the U.S. Open will be his 26th event this year. Not including Davis Cup. That's an awful lot of grinding. Hard to see him surviving past the middle weekend.

8. Marcos Baghdatis: The streaky Cypriot (aren't they all?) is capable of a deep run (see: Wimbledon) but also capable of getting up on the wrong side of the bed and losing to, say, the Andre Agassi-Andre Pavel winner.

9. Andy Roddick: The great X factor. We all know about his travails in '06. But has anyone played better tennis on the hard courts? After Roddick's win in Cincy -- and with Coach Jimmy in the box -- this could be a lot of fun for the American fans. Particularly with last year's first round fiasco as motivation for Andy, we're predicting the hot streak continues, at least through the quarters.

10. Fernando Gonzalez: Quietly had a terrific summer on the hard courts but never seems to sustain his go-for-broke-style late into a Slam. We eagerly anticipate a third-rounder against Andy Murray.

11. David Ferrer: A deceptively strong hard-court player, but a blow-out loss in New Haven, Conn., bodes ill.

12. Tomas Berdych: Pocket Safin is loaded talent but is as capable of beating seeds (i.e. Nadal in Toronto) as he is losing to no-names. Likely third rounder against Dmitry Tursunov is a nice contrast in styles.

(11) David Ferrer

PRE-TOURNAMENT ODDS: 150/1
NATIONALITY: SPA
BIRTH DATE: 02/04/82
BECAME PRO: 2000
WORLD RANKING: 11

VERDICT

A dirt-baller by trade, Ferrer showed in Miami earlier this season (where he reached the last four) that he can play on faster surfaces. One of the most tenacious players on the tour, the Spaniard can never be written off no matter how far behind he falls. The Iberian has enjoyed some decent results in the last few weeks and will fancy his chances of making the fourth round at least.

My boy's put me a £1.00 bet on :D Last of the big spenders.

DAVID FERRER
CURRENT PRO RANKING: 13
This hazel-eyed hunk from Spain proves that good things do come in small packages. Standing only at 5-foot-9, the 24-year-old is said to be a Lothario on and off the tennis circuit.

We have actually looked at Miami not for next year but the year after nothing like forward planning. If you go the main site they give you a list of hotels & you can save over $100 a night on the normal rates so we are going to start saving when we get back from LA & possibly go to disneyland as well.

I could start our mission in IW & you & Isa could finish it in Miami!!!

I have digital cable and had to add a sports tier to get TTC - which BTW doesn't even have any USO coverage. Not cheap but if I just had the local channels I'd only get to see tennis about 10 days a year.

We pay over £40.00 a month for sky so you see why Rosie & I get very p****d when things like this happens. But like you if it wasn't for sky we would only see Wimbledon & GB's Davis Cup matches plus any final Murray makes :ras:

Yes we did how awful  we recorded the match over the weekend & saw him just keel over. You wouldn't think a perfectly healthy boy of 22 to die from a massive heart attack. We didn't see the Barca & Real matches because they are trying to hold the tv co's to ransome for more money.

So sad:sad: You wonder about a healthy 22 year old. After they said on Spanish television he had 5 heartattacks I started thinking that something else must be going on.
