Am I crazy, or weren't they going to start this event on Sunday like they did at the French? I thought when it was announced earlier in the year that the French would have a Sunday start, that they said the same would apply at the US Open. I thought this was also the reason that Ashe day was moved to Saturday. Hadn't it always been Sunday in past years? Anyway, it definitely looks like the tournament is starting on Monday like it usually does. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this, or if I just fabricated the whole thing in my mind and belong in an asylum.

The only other thing I can think of is that Justin Gimelstob complained about this practice in his SI.com blog, and the fact that the players weren't getting any additional prize money. Maybe this convinced the USTA to scrap the idea.

Arthur Ashe Kids Day has been on Saturday (rain date Sunday) for at least five years or so. Taped highlights air on Sunday.

For several years, Arlen Kantarian has talked about expanding the U.S. Open to 15 days with the men's final on Monday evening (instead of Sunday afternoon). CBS wouldn't go for it because of competition from Monday night football, but now that the big t.v. night for football has shifted from Monday to Sunday, the extra day may come to fruition in future years.
