Hey Hangdog, I really like that sport! Haven't seen it for a while though, but I always rooted for Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Grasic! I love watching the snow ;) And it is not as boring as 'langlaufen'.. :D

Of the women I like Sandrine Bailly a lot, Simone Denkinger, Uschi Disl, Liv Grete Poiree ... there aren't really any of them I dislike, just some I like more than others, and they tend to be German or French. :D

Haven't expected this therad to appear on this forum :) LOL
But the one who started it wasn't the one who'd surprise me :p

I've been in love with biathlon for quite a while. I'm even a member of Russian biathlon fan club :worship: BTW, we're gathering together to watch Olympics in some bar

As for my faves... I support all Russians, especially Krouglov, Tcherezov and Tchoudov. And of course I like Ole, Raf, Ali Wolf , Sven, Frode... yeah, almost everyone from top 30! :D

I'm not a big fan of women's biathlon , but sometimes support Ushi and Liv.

Can't wait for the Olympics to start! It's about to be very exciting! ;)

Also an Austrian coach who was banned from the Olympic games because of blood doping was at the Austrian lodging, he tried to flee and crashed something like two police cars on his flight and injured a policeman. They finally catched him shortly after the Austrian border and was taken into custody. During the razzia they also found lots of things used for blood-doping and blood syranges. Now we have to wait to see if some athletes of the biathlon or crosscountry skieers were doped. They didn't win something in biathlon, but in cross-country and nordic combination.

sharpeirob
02-20-2006, 06:59 PM
yeah, not as if it sounds suspicious already but it looks like somoene through some stuff in a bag out of the window during the raid and they found that too.
looking at your flag, is this all happening to your own sportspeople, Neely?

Hangdog
02-20-2006, 08:46 PM
Tell me about it Neely, I meant roffman by the way

Wolfgang Rottmann if to be more correct ;)

Seems nowdays doping scandals (an endless topic) is an exact part of Olympic Games. And it's even more sad, for me at least, that these things have a place mostly around biathletes and skiers who do the hardest job there on those awful rounds and then are not able to have a normal rest because of these razzias, huge as never before number of tests and other mess around.

Another nice detail is that Italy has her own list of forbidden preparations and her own rules. And seems athletes anyway feel it on themselves inspite of negotiation between IOC and local structures.

So first results of all this stuff is that Olga Pyleva in any case won't perform anymore, and the same thing told Wolfgang Perner.

P.S. Heia Norge!

Jay Hakkinen is probably the best one of all four to come. He only shot one error, like the German team. That's why the American relay was leading until the 1st shooting of the 2nd leg. But not anymore now.

At the beginning, the favourites were Germany and Norway. Germany is among the top in good position; Norway with lots of penalties so far, but they might come back though.

Neely
02-21-2006, 11:25 AM
:woohoo: Germany gets the win! :) Not a perfect race, they even had to go into the penalty lap, but it was good enough once again to outlast the others

results women's 12.5 km mass start
---------------------------

1. Anna Carin Olofsson (SWE)
2. Kati Wilhelm (GER)
3. Uschi Disl (GER)

biggest career result for Olofsson! :yeah: nice for her, she did cross-country not too long ago

And Uschi Disl on third place with a medal in her last Olympic race :yeah: Maybe it was good for her that she wasn't selected in the relay because she could save some energy which she needed for this race because she shot three errors while the places four to seven behind her only shot two or one; and Disl had to catch that lost time up on the track where she is usually very strong

Apparently, she was really pissed off that they chose Katrine Apel over herself, and it didnt pay off coz Apel was the only one to miss target(i think) which uschi felt, as her last attempt she would have shot her heart out for germany or something along those lines

Bjoerndalen wins also the 12.5 km persuit in a foto finish against Poirée

World Championships Mixed Relay:
--------------------------------
1st place: Russia II, shooting 1+10 (Bogaliy, Tchepikov, Malgina, Kruglov)
2nd place: Norway I, 3+16 [+53.7 sec] (Tjoerhom, Hanevold, Berger, Bjoerndalen)
3rd place: France I, 5+10 [+1:58.2 min] (Baverel-Robert, Defrasne, Bailly, Poirée)

4th place: Germany I, 4+11 [+2:36,4 min] (Denkinger, Roesch, Wilhelm, Birnbacher)
5th place: Slovenia II, 3+16 [+3:18.5 min] (Grudicek, Bauer, Larisi, Brvar)
6th place: Sweden, 4+14 [+3:27.9 min] (Olofsson, Nilsson, Jonsson, Bergman)

Great show by Russia how well they shot again as a whole team  incredibly windy conditions, often a roll of dice shooting with wind blowing in between 0 km/h up to 50 km/h from one second to the other

unreal conditions that made it a very interesting race because you saw lots of changes in the classification :yeah:

what abt rapha:o?
He messed up both shootings, 4 or 5 penalty laps (not sure how many), but that was a bad day for him. When he arrived at the finish, he commented his own performance with a "thumb down" gesture. He was pissed off because he lost overall World Cup lead to Bjoerndalen as well

they always change the biathlon schedule
only events which take place every year are Oberhof-Ruhpolding-Antholz
some years ago they had two world cups in USA and next year the world championships will take place in korea

so some world cup places wont host a world cup every year

From German point of view, the Biathlon WC was almost unbelievable what has happened there the last few days. Because I missed yesterday's action as I was watching mainly tennis, I saw the replay on Eurosport and could almost not believe it what happened in the last two races there. Greis backed up his Olympic performance and showed people the three gold medals were no fluke and the women were a class of their own anyway.

Raphael Poirée had his last race today and retired!

A pity his retirement came now, he was in such a good form the last weeks. Then again you could say he ended his career at very high level.

Damn, Bjorndalen is really tough  He took away Poirée's triumphal retirement which could have ended with a win, but Bjorndalen sprinted with him to a photofinish decision (where I still couldn't see the difference, let alone that this should have been a difference of one tenth of a second :o )

I'm still not over that one. I really thought that Rafa had won it but we can't change the outcome anyway. He's my favourite biathlete and I miss him already. I don't even want to think about next season. :bigcry:

Today's men's sprint was very exciting and it's nice that Michael Roesch was finally able to win a race this year. Bjorndalen had a horrible race today. He missed 6 out of 10 shots and finished outside the top 30. This certainly doesn't happen very often.
