Why? Reading about him in Pancho Gonzalez's autobiography? Somebody who looks like him almost sitting down next to me at the Science Library here at the University where I loiter??

According to {Pancho} Ricardo...he was "built like an ox"...Pancho respected his game...

...he has a club named after him, in Spain:

His widow wrote his autobiography:

...and he died, twelve years ago, in Spain, far from his native Australia.

Yup. Jack Kramer and Tony Trabert have spoke just as highly about Hoad's game, perhaps I can dig up some quotes...

Johan Kriek reminded many of Lew Hoad. He was built like a running back-low to the ground, powerful legs and forearms. If you had a chance to see Kriek you saw a bit of Hoad. Hoad had more nerve though. Kriek tended to unravel.
