Belarus v Russia
Venue: Football Manege, Minsk, BLR
Surface: Carpet - indoors
Belarus
Max Mirnyi
Vladimir Voltchkov
Alexander Shvec
Andrei Karatchenia

Captain: Sergei Teterin
Russia
Marat Safin
Mikhail Youzhny
Nikolay Davydenko
Igor Andreev
Captain: Shamil Tarpischev

go Marat :D
its all down to you :)

we got 3 players in no form what so ever :help: (well 2 maybe plus Igor Andreev)

Belarus has Max Mirnyi indoors on carpet plus Voltchkov (who's in even worse form than our 3)

Marat's back as No1 so thats some good news:)
hopefully Marat gets to play rubber No1

I hope that it's not too much tennis for Marat after AO..

Hopefully we can get a glimpse of the elusive Yevgeny since he will be travelling there as an assistant coach.. Just wanna see how true of the fact that he is now 105 kgs according to Marat.

This could be tricky. Marat won't be in Minsk before Tuesday at earliest. Will he be able to play a best-of-five match indoors on Friday with all this jetlag and disappointing final remains to be seen. I won't be surprised if Tarpishev fields a team of Youzhny and Andreyev.

I'm going to Minsk tomorrow. Would you like to tell Marat or Yevgeny something?
L. Paes showed in AO he could lost 15 kg to back good form for doubles mixed.
May be you have another examples to Kafelnikov?

TheBoiledEgg
02-04-2004, 03:37 AM
Andy......... just bring them good luck and take some pics :)

Leander had motivation to lose weight
Zhenya has lost all his

its gonna be tricky, one of the guys has to beat Max realistically, doubles isn't looking clever, if Marat isnt gonna play doubles thats it, even if he does it looks tough.

I give Safin credit for even being there. He shouldn't even be playing singles on the first day. The doubles and a sunday singles match if necessary would have been enough.

Poor Vladimir Volchkov. :( Even though I'm rooting for Russia, I'm very sad about his injury and having to retire up 2 sets to 1 and so close to victory.

Ok, Bilbo think about this. Safin is struggling at the moment, and would you like him to go out there and play a match to win for Russia, like he did at the AO final?

No, I didn't think so. From the tennis and the travel back and the 1st day match and doubles, he would more than likely look listless even though he is trying his hardest.

Safin lost a close match to Mirnyi. Mirnyi is very strong. He has a big serve and played very well last year against Germany. It doesn't surprise me that he won against Marat. Youzhny's game is similiar to Voltchkov. It's poison for Youzhny.

Don't talk to me like I am not familiar with players game that I am commenting on.

Ok, the match was very long Safin has played heaps of tennis lately and hasn't had that much recovery.

If he is not fit enough whether that is through an injury or tiredness to give his best efforts for the team, then he shouldn't be playing, it isn't any more simple than that.

It's 4-4 40-0 to Youzhny

Anyway, bilbo I don't believe there have been mp's yet, so no the match is not lost yet.

yep, nice early call bilbo!

Very dissapointing for Russia to lose but I am glad they lost to Belarus and not someone else.

The beast really deserves this after his DC heroics, him and Belarus must be going crazy right about now.

Argentina wont be that happy, Belarus will have home advantage, I bet they will put Argies on grass and then who knows what will happen. Remmember that Voltchkov made Wimbledon semis one year.

Action Jackson
02-08-2004, 02:58 PM
Grass in Belarus in April? I don't think so, they will just use the same very fast indoor surface they used for this tie.

I wonder Lukashenko will use some thugs to intimidate the Argies?

TheBoiledEgg

it will be FAST indoor carpet

Max should beat Coria but on grass even Voltchkov would have a very good chance against him

Congrats to Belarus. :) Especially Volchkov coming off his ankle injury. But the Russian team really dissapointed me. :( Can't anyone on that team help out an exhausted Safin and win a point for him and the team?

I hope Yevgeny Kafelnikov will be named Russian Davis Cup captain in the near future.

JeLuliA88

What was the Russian captain thinking when they replaced Marat with Youzhny??? Well the decision costed them the tie, cos Marat even when he is tired has a better chance of winning... Now they're out of the world group and has to qualify again... :(

Congrats to Belarus.

No, nobody on that team can help Safin. That's why he won the Davis Cup in 2002 ALL BY HIMSELF.
