it's never an easy draw in the masters series. Good luck Chucho. Go through the first round and maybe we'll get the chance to see you :yeah: :wavey:

08-06-2006, 03:50 PM
Chucho will play doubles associated to Nalbandian. 1st match against Arthurs & Hrbaty.

08-07-2006, 05:17 PM
Well, I haven't seen the match. Just followed livescores. Chucho won 7/5 7/6 with 20-18 in the tiebreak!! He likes it to keep the suspens alive.

08-07-2006, 07:23 PM
I got like five heart attacks while watching that tb at the scoreboard  Well done, he kept his head cool this time :yeah:

He plays Robredo or Safin next. Great chances that it will be on the center court and therefore also on tv :)

08-07-2006, 08:27 PM
well done, Chucho!!

but sorry next round, if he faces Marat, i will go for Marat  :)

I was half expecting to lose that marathon TB knowing chucho, good job

Now to beat up on either Safin or Robredo - hope it is Robredo so he can pummel him like he did in Cincy last year

Action Jackson
08-08-2006, 10:33 AM
Glad the big man won as I am not sure how he'd have come back in the 3rd set, but he got the win.

Yes, Safin or Boredo will be an interesting match up either way.

08-08-2006, 10:57 PM
Chucho and Nalbo lost in doubles. I wish he and Prieto teamed up again.

Anyway, Robredo is up next. Kind of pity it's not Marat, because a match between my two favourites would be something really enjoyable to follow.

Chucho played a good match against Tommy last year in Cincy so hopefully he can do it again. Plus, Tommy's leg was bothering him a bit today :aplot:

I've got a good feeling with his next match - Robredo was unimpressive today and was very frustrated for most parts of the match. Safin just gifted it to him with his shocking serving.

Action Jackson
08-09-2006, 04:01 AM
Chucho will give him a beatdown.

08-09-2006, 06:39 AM
I hope so. :)

Action Jackson
08-09-2006, 06:57 AM
Boredo's leg was not bothering him at all, it was a strategic timeout and a trick he has performed many times.

08-09-2006, 07:02 PM
Chucho will give him a beatdown.
It seems you were right. Final score 2/6 6/3 6/4. Good job big man. :bounce:

08-09-2006, 07:44 PM
He was one break down at the beginning of the second set so :worship: for great fight.

He next plays Benneteau. Has anyone got a good feeling about this one too? :aplot:

For the fifth time he has been someone in the top 10 in Boredo, though in my eyes he is only top 10 as in a number.

This will be tough for him against Benneteau, as he is expected to win and he has faltered before, but hope he can get over the "Chicken Man" and make the QFs like he should.

Pretty much agree - he never seems to do well when he's the clear favourite & expected to win

He is 1-0 with Benneteau and it was 6-4 in the 3rd in Auckland, so it will be far from easy, just hope he can start well this time.

08-10-2006, 10:06 AM
The only good thing about Chucho playing Benneteau is that it gives me a chance to see the match.

Sorry, this is not my intention. But this is probably my only chance to see Chucho on tv, if he plays a Frenchy.

Only chance G Dub and I will get to watch him is if he beats Benneteau :(

08-10-2006, 10:59 AM
Well, makes one more reason for me to cheer on him against Julien!! ;)

08-10-2006, 05:30 PM
Chucho won 6-4 7-6 (4)!!!

Now he will face either Gonzalez or Ljubicic who are right now in the third set.

08-10-2006, 05:49 PM
Yes, good match, from both. But obviously Julien was a bit exhausted after his fight against Hrbaty. Chucho did the right thing, putting great pressure on him when needed. Onto the next one now. :)

08-10-2006, 08:26 PM
excellent :yeah:

He can beat Gonzo who has played plenty of matches recently

08-10-2006, 08:59 PM
Vamos Chucho tadavía!!!!!!!!!! :worship:

i am so glad that he could prove to the world that he is very good also on hard courts!!! he is, he is....i always thought that.

Action Jackson
08-11-2006, 07:10 AM
This will be a very tough one for Chucho as he has struggled against Gonzalez and I remember their last match very clearly.

Chucho lead 2 sets to love on a hardcourt and went down in 5, he will need to be above that level against an opponent he is 1-6 down in H2H. It's the last match and finally Chucho will be shown on TV.

08-11-2006, 07:31 AM
I hope he can defeat Gonzalez. He will be on tv but not on mine. With that time delay, we don't get coverage for the evening matches. I'll discover about the result tomorrow morning, when I wake up.

08-11-2006, 08:23 AM
I'm kinda late but Chucho :woohoo:

It won't be easy against Gonzalez, but i'm putting my faith in him :)
I'm not sure whether it will be on my tv. Probably not live but on sunday at 7 am :(

Anyway, good luck Chucho :wavey:

08-12-2006, 02:56 AM
ok, so it's almost 5 am here and i would't say it was worth staying awake ;)
Chucho lost to Fena 1/6 5/7

As much as i'd love to say some good words about Chucho's performance, it's not that easy. His body language in the first set was :o He didn't run, didn't fight, looked like he really didn't care when he lost his serve for the first time. It was a little bit better in the second, he led with a break but couldn't hold it. Then had chance to break again but didn't take it. He missed some really important and easy points  Well, i know that every point looks easy when sitting in front of tv but he really should've won some of them. His attitude was poor and that's what made me little disappointed.

bad gambler
08-12-2006, 02:57 AM
Agree - thumbs down on that performance I mean it wasn't as if Gonzo played out of his skin today either.

Too many basic errors :o

08-12-2006, 06:13 AM
Well, I just discovered about the result and no, this isn't great news to wake up to. Thanks for the reviews guys.

Action Jackson
08-12-2006, 08:24 AM
It was a good performance by Gonzo, he mixed it up well and he has played Chucho so many times that he knows what to do to defeat him and that showed up again.

Chucho's 2nd serve was very weak and he shat himself out there, it's the problem he has to overcome in these matches. Gonzo only made 1 unforced error in the 1st set, it was a good week for Chucho however inspite of the poor performance in this match.

Chucho is playing with Prieto again in the doubles today.

Well based on his performance against Gonzo, stick a fork in him.

But seriously hopefully there will be no letdown factor after his strong showing in Toronto - to be taken seriously on hardcourt he has to string together consistent results on the surface.

Action Jackson
08-14-2006, 07:57 AM
I made some comments about in the Acasuso game thread as well.

The conditions are a bit quicker here than in Toronto, but he made the QFs last year and that will be harder this time around. Stani is far from an easy opponent and that match in Barcelona came after he gave Safin a beatdown.

Just see what happens to him here, but he should be seeded for the US Open.

08-14-2006, 08:03 AM
Fondue Boy

Anyway, i was glad to find out that Chucho and Prieto teamed up again in doubles. They're playing polish pair in the first round (Matkowski/Fyrstenberg). I'll be torn :/

Vamos Argentina!

Action Jackson
08-14-2006, 08:08 AM
Fondue Boy is a term of endearment and it comes from a group of Swiss Frenchies that I know and I couldn't remember all their names, so I called them the Fondue Boys.

08-15-2006, 05:52 AM
Today's OOP:

Court 3 start 11:00 AM
M Mirnyi (BLR) vs X Malisse (BEL)
R Soderling (SWE) vs (11)T Berdych (CZE)
N Djokovic (SCG) vs (12)J Nieminen (FIN)
(WC)S Wawrinka (SUI) vs J Acasuso (ARG)
Djokovic/Verdasco vs (WC)Goldstein/Thomas

Busy day for our Big Man.

08-15-2006, 10:36 PM
Fondue boy too strong for Chucho. He had his chances though... led in the second with a break, but couldn't hold it. Looks like his first adventure with top20 is going to be quite short.

I was half expecting this result - would love to know how both played though for anyone who was able to watch it?

08-16-2006, 06:29 AM
Well, that match wasn't easy on the paper, I suppose it hasn't been in reality. I also would appreciate some comments from ppl who happen to have seen it.

They won the doubles. ;)

08-16-2006, 06:52 AM
I see.

08-16-2006, 09:22 AM
They defeated my boys  who haven't won a match since I can't remember when... But well, better them than some other guys :p

08-16-2006, 10:01 AM
That's the spirit Kasia! :yeah: ;)

Well done boys and good luck in the next round which doesn't look that easy. :wavey:

08-22-2006, 10:47 PM
