I've just found some news about Gael.
Apparently he injured his toe.
He'll be back in Toronto.

Monfils: retour à Toronto

Gaël Monfils est attendu au tournoi de Toronto à partir du 7 août pour son retour à la compétition. Le numéro un français s'est blessé il y a un mois au doigt de pied.

But he has withdrawn from Toronto too. :(
I've read the same article in L'Équipe and his trainer seemed to say that Gael injured his toe before Wimbledon, but he also needed to take a break anyway and that's why he skipped the clay tournaments in order to get ready and well-rested for the hardcourt season.
But now that he has withdrawn from Toronto too, it must be something different...

 This doesn't look good. I suspect the back injury is still givng trouble. I think we can write off the summer hardcourt season because even if he returns in Cincy, New Haven or NY I doubt he'll find form quickly enough.

I'm scared for him. :scared: I just hope he can salvage the indoor season.

Somebody wrote in the forum of "Tennis Magazine" (http://forum.tennismagazine.fr) that Gael is training in Spain atm with Champion and his foot is getting better. Now I don't know if it's true, it's just a post in a forum.
But if it's true, his withdrawal from Toronto is only due to this toe injury (maybe it took longer to heal than expected and his preparation was a bit too short for Toronto or something like that).
The same poster also says he will play in Cincy.

Well. Just do your best. Very hard draw for a post-injury return...

edit: But he made it! :)

6-4, 7-5!

Despite not playing well at all in what seem to be an ugly match, he fought and made it. Well done Gaël!

Marat really takes his time to come back at his best level...Good luck Marat.

Let's hope he can get a couple of rounds under his belt and not go out in the first round.

Exactly, and he has a draw he really should take advantge of:

(8) ROCHUS, Olivier BEL/Bye
(WC) GIMELSTOB, Justin USA vs. SIMON, Gilles FRA
qualifier vs. qualifier
Bye/(9/WC)MONFILS, Gael FRA
(16) SRICHAPHAN, Paradorn/Bye
ALMAGRO, Nicolas vs. WAWRINKA, Stanislas
CLEMENT, Arnaud vs. SERRA, Florent
Bye/(2) DAVYDENKO, Nikolay

Allez Gael!

Gael's draw at the USO:

Gael Monfils FRA (27) vs QUALIFIER
Max Mirnyi BLR vs Wesley Moodie RSA
Luis Horna PER vs Guillermo Garcia-Lopez ESP
Mark Philippoussis AUS vs Rafael Nadal ESP (2)

I think it would be good if he at least gets to the 3rd round

Already 4 tight sets...

Despite the fact that South African Wesley Moodie is a dangerous opponent, if Gaël enters the court on the right mindset and plays agressively, he can definitely reach the third round...Go Gaël!

The poor Gaël should first recover from his injuries and only come back after...

I don't know where to post it, I've just read this in L'Équipe:

Gael might have a new coach in the next few days according to Barbarin, his physical trainer. They will announce their decision quickly. Barbarin says it has nothing to do with Gael's results lately, they've been working together for 2 years and it's normal to try some changes after 2 years.

Well this is certainly interesting. I hope something positive comes out of it. I wonder who this new coach will be.
