Cookie told me once that in Serbian, there's no distinction between the preposition 'on' or 'in'. So sometimes they'd have a bit of trouble knowing which one to use in English.

arm
06-12-2008, 12:15 PM
It must be difficult for them. I can't complain as english and portuguese have a lot od similarities. Besides, our language is much harder to learn, speak and write than english itself, which is an advantage for us.

But I have always hated prepositions...:unsure:

Djole!

Last night with nothing on TV, I watched TTC's Open Access. The eppy was in Monte Carlo and there's the "Casino Royale". Near the end, Murphy was interviewing Nole and there's Djole with Dijana, the cutest kid was mighty impatient there waiting big brother's interview to be over.

ummm we DO differ those but the logic is very different. In serbian we would say ON serbian; the cat is ON the tree; get IN the bus etc.. so thats why we (not all of us of course) just have to learn by heart when to use which in english.

There must be his family tree somewhere

I still think Nole should have an extra name:awww: Can't we give him one anyway? Maybe "ezekial" like Fat Dave  And I know what you mean - when I was younger I often used to use my middle name for a bit of a change. :) In the UK- we normally lose our surname when we marry though - we just replace it with the husband's name. Not many women use both.

Jelena - I can't imagine which V you are referring to here

It is the same situation here, not sure, but I think 90% of women just take husband's surname and 'lose' their, we call it 'girl surname'.

Me neither  ;)

"girl surname":awww: that's quite cute. I'll have to ask my dear Alex about it. Of course if I ever married him, my name would start with a "V" too - but that is not likely to happen for a long, long while (if at all!)

If I ever get married I do not want my husband's name. I love my last name and it defines me... So it's his choice, either he adds mine name (instead of me adding his) or we both keep our names..

Perhaps you could do what my friend did? She kept her own name for business purposes - she's a lawyer, and had just begun to be known in her profession and didn't want ohange her name and confuse matters, - but she uses her husband's name for everyday stuff (baking etc), and their children have her husband's name.

I'm not a big fan of my last name. Partially because people always pronounce it wrong (even though it is said exactly how it looks  ) and also because it's technically not my family's real last name so people always think my heritage is from a country it's not.

See the story goes, that apparently when my grandfather's family came on the boat to America from Lithuania that they lost their paperwork somehow and somehow obtained other papers to enter the country... so the name they entered America with is not their real last name.

So I have no real tie to this.

But speaking of last names, my mother's half of the family is all German, and her name before she got married was actually German. And one of her cousins married someone with the last name Deutsch. That's just funny to me.

Okay. That's enough from me on this subject, I'm late to work :rolls:

Well some distant cousin of ours had a family tree researched at some point but I forget what it was.

But when I was in Germany when I was 15, I met a Polish guy who has the same name that I have now, and he was all excited because he thought he met like.. a long lost relative and it was very hard to explain across a language barrier that we weren't really related. He was hugging me and so excited, but I couldn't manage to explain to him that I'm not Polish. :awww:

Traditional, women in Hong Kong add their husbands' last name. Remember Chinese have family name come first so they are usually addressed by the husband's family name, her own family name and then her given name.

My sister-in-law doesn't use her hubby's family name and lots of time, her hubby (in US here) was addressed as Mr. Lo (her maiden family name) most of the time

Your signature song should be "Spread a Little Happiness" :)

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn't sigh and you mustn't cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try

What's the use of worrying and feeling blue
When days are long keep on smiling through
Spread a little happiness till dreams come true

Rosie is just going to bed now  She is so tired that her eyes are hurting.

Misha - Raquel won't let me smoke, because its a bad, unhealthy habit, and because I tried so hard to give up, she doesn't want Nole to drive me to starting again, and undo all the good work. Alex smokes like a chimney and he won't let me either  They are both looking after me and my health :)

OK - love you people - please don't be too   or whatever tonight - I really have to go to sleep now, and I expect big smiles and rays of sunshine here in NoleLand tomorrow.

I am logging out to watch a cool film or read a good book.

Just thought I should say that I am planning something for tomorrow. I need to be away from home otherwise I will go crazy. So I will leave in the morning all by myself and catch a train to Figueira daz Foz - the closest beach. I'll take my book, MP3 and some food. Just a nice day in a different place all by myself. :D

I will rpobably be back in the evening, but I can't be sure as I have heard my parents saying something about cinema. ;)

Talk to you all later! :wavey:

Surprisingly good actually, thanks. Still sad about Nole's loss of course, - but he is on the plane to Beijing and has put it all behind him - so I think I should too.

Have to go out for 10 - 15 minutes - be back soon

Yes - I know the humidity is bad, and that will be a probem for him - in fact - for all the athletes taking part. But as far as the actual security is concerned, I think it will be OK from that point of view.

Well so far - I think it just means work, study, spending money we haven't got, and not chatting to our friends - so I think MTF is nicer :)

Btw - completely random - but have you seen how many people are now beginning to like Nole more now? They like the way he behaved yesterday. I've had several Reps and there are a few posts in the Cinci thread from Andy fans. I think it's nice :)

I had trouble watching it - but I'm glad I did. He was funny and sweet and gracious as ever. But it's not just that - I think it's the generous hug he gave Andy at the end, and also the way he fought so hard, and saved so many match points. He is slowly getting a little more respect now. Not from the true a*seclown haters of course - the likes of Kitinov, and GlennM and Pussy A :spit: and most of the haridans on the Nadal chat thread , wouldn't say a good word for him, if he single-handedly cured world poverty overnight  But I don't respect any of them anyway - so I don't care. Other people are beginning to though and that's nice :)
