I remember a lot of my dreams, usually just because they're so vivid it'd be hard not to forget them.

I haven't had this one in awhile, but the one recurring dream I had was of being trapped out in our pole barn with a grizzly bear on the prowl in our yard. I always did the same thing of darting out of the barn and hiding under the pine tree that was halfway between the barn and the house. Then when I thought it was clear I would make a dash to the house, and just as I would get close to the house the bear would appear out of the corner of my eye. I would manage to get into the house and barely be able to close and lock the door when the bear would be right there looking at me through the windows. It would start to pick the lock of the door, but I always woke up at that moment.

I wish I had flying dreams though, those would be more fun to have. :p I never really have happy dreams...I think I could use some of my dreams to make a good horror movie. :p

Sounds like an interesting night of dreaming. :p I don't remember my dreams usually, but I used to have a recurring dream that I would always remember. In the dream I can fly, and I fly all over the world, and go visit my friends and show them I can fly and stuff. I haven't had that dream in a while though. I started having the dreams when I was just a kid and they pop up every now and again.
I very rarely remember my dreams.

As we started to discuss it, Kim said that this group has been planning this type of debate for a very long time, and that no matter who we picked as our speaker we'd be screwed for not having the same amount of time to prepare...although they're planning on doing this in October, it pretty much is last minute at this point...no way we could get anyone half-way decent to dabte their person; the person they have debating the Pro-Life side, by the way, is a lawyer, so you know they'd bury the other person in legalese during the debate.

Edit: The other point being, that you know they're not doing this to give people both sides of the argument...they're trying to prove that their view on abortion is the right view.

My mom thinks it's no big deal, but I'm still going to make an appointment on Monday once my doctor's office is open after the weekend.

I fell asleep for about an hour and a half, but still felt really dizzy when I woke up at 6:00. But I still had to drive out to the mall to pick up my paycheck and schedule for next week, and then went to Starbucks afterward to see if I could find anything out about my interview. But the woman I interviewed with wasn't it, but they left a message for me. Then I rented The Producers, The Hills Have Eyes, and The Constant Gardener. Watched The Producers tonight already, and that was hilarious. :p But now that we've finished the movie and I'm starting walking around again I've started feeling dizzy and disoriented again.

What is your deal? Why are you making this so personal, that me not reacting the same way to the movie or that I don't have the same taste in music is a criticism on you? Am I not allowed to have my own taste in these things without it being an attack on you? I have my own taste in things, you have yours, why can't it just be left at that?

Ghost Of Corporate Future

A man walks out of his apartment,
It is raining, he's got no umbrella
He starts running beneath the awnings,
Trying to save his suit,
Trying to save his suit.
Trying to dry, and to dry, and to dry but no good

When he gets to the crowded subway platform,
He takes off both of his shoes
He steps right into somebody's fat loogie
And everyone who sees him says, "Ew."
Everyone who sees him says, "Ew."

But he doesn't care,
'Cause last night he got a visit from the
Ghost of Corporate Future
The ghost said, "Take off both your shoes
Whatever chances you get
Especially when they're wet."

He also said,
"Imagine you go away
On a business trip one day
And when you come back home,
Your children have grown
And you never made your wife moan,
Your children have grown
And you never made your wife moan."

"And people make you nervous
You'd think the world is ending,
And everybody's features have somehow started blending
And everything is plastic,
And everyone's sarcastic,
And all your food is frozen,
It needs to be defrosted."

"You'd think the world was ending,
You'd think the world was ending,
You'd think the world was ending right now.
You'd think the world was ending,
You'd think the world was ending,
You'd think the world was ending right now."

"Well maybe you should just drink a lot less coffee,
And never ever watch the ten o'clock news,
Maybe you should kiss someone nice,
Or lick a rock,
Or both."

"Maybe you should cut your own hair
'Cause that can be so funny
It doesn't cost any money
And it always grows back
Hair grows even after you're dead"

"And people are just people,
They shouldn't make you nervous.
The world is everlasting,
It's coming and it's going.
If you don't toss your plastic,
The streets won't be so plastic.
And if you kiss somebody,
Then both of you'll get practice."

"The world is everlasting
Put dirtballs in your pocket,
Put dirtballs in your pocket,
And take off both your shoes.
'Cause people are just people,
People are just people,
People are just people like you.
People are just people,
People are just people,
People are just people like you."

The world is everlasting
It's coming and it's going
The world is everlasting
It's coming and it's going
It's coming and it's going

Reading Time With Pickle

Walking home from work
Stop at the supermarket, condemement aisle
A jar of pickles catches the eye
Make eye contact with a solitary pickle
Bought the jar took it home

Made it up the stairs
Made it through the doorway, waded through the floor
Tried to head in the general direction of the bathroom door
The truest room in the whole damn house

Singin' love is the answer to a question
That I have forgotten
But I know I've been asked
And the answer has got to be love love love

Now Feeding time with TV
Then sleeping time, not sleepy
So reading time with pickle
But were the bed side lamp had been
Is now a milignant soft soft green

Has it always been this way?
Is it possible all this magic went unnoticed?
Maybe things will start to change
And life will turn a better page
No more rain

Singin' love is the answer
To a question i know I've been asked
And the answer has got to be love love love

Tomorrow back to work again
Run to the supermarket, running hopeful through the aisles
Haven't been this happy in a long time
But not a single jar was smiling afterall

But pickle jars are just pickle jars
And pickles are just pickles
Ingredients ... water, salt, cucumber, garlic and pickling spices

But love is the answer to a question
That I've forgotten
But I know I've been asked
And the answere has got to be love

Thanks Regina! I'm glad I know how to make a pickle now! :rolls:

Those are some of the more off the wall ones, but the majority of her songs are simply amazing. A lot of times people say that "there's no one else like them!" when referring to singers, but definitely true this time. To say that she's different is an understatement. She doesn't want to be defined by just one genre, and she does something different with every song, even changes the accent with which she sings. Kendra and I just about died laughing when we realized in the one song she sounds like a combination of Joan Cusack and Carol Channing. Worst possible duo to think of when it comes to singing. :rolls:

Plus, she sings in French. :hearts: That immediately wins me over. :p And I think she starts singing in Russian as well in another song, but since I don't know any Russian I can't be sure. And I'm loving "I Want to Sing" because she does it entirely a cappella. :D

On The Radio

This is how it works
It feels a little worse
Than when we drove our hearse
Right through that screaming crowd
While laughing up a storm
Until we were just bone
Until it got so warm
That none of us could sleep
And all the styrofoam
Began to melt away
We tried to find some words
To aid in the decay
But none of them were home
Inside their catacomb
A million ancient bees
Began to sting our knees
While we were on our knees
Praying that disease
Would leave the ones we love
And never come again

On the radio
We heard November Rain
That solo's really long
But it's a pretty song
We listened to it twice
'Cause the DJ was asleep

This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

And on the radio
You hear November Rain
That solo's awful long
But it's a good refrain
You listen to it twice
'Cause the DJ is asleep
On the radio
(oh oh oh)
On the radio
On the radio - uh oh
On the radio - uh oh
On the radio - uh oh
On the radio

Definitely gave visualizations to the term paper I did this winter on the drug trade in Latin America; bad enough the movie is based on a true story, but the thing is that's how life is anyway for the people living in the favelas around Rio everyday. Living in the US we definitely take for granted how good we have it here. Even at the worst, the conditions here are better than the best conditions in the favelas.

I love this song, great lyrics with a great voice to match from Regina.

Fidelity

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind
All these voices
I hear in my mind all these words
I hear in my mind all this music

And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart

And suppose I never met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
Suppose we never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall
Break my fall

All my friends say that of course its gonna get better
Gonna get better
Better better better better
Better better better

I never love nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting by heart truly
I got lost
In the sounds
I hear in my mind
All these voices
I hear in my mind all these words
I hear in my mind
All this music
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart
Breaks my
Heart
Breaks my heart

Good, was feeling kind of sick again today, I think work yesterday was just starting to catch up to me. Which makes me a bit nervous for this week, especially if we're as busy this week as we were yesterday.

How did your weekend go?

It was good. I had some friends over last night, and by some I mean about 8. We drank and prank called the naughty personal ads in the L.A. Weekly. This morning there were beer bottles and bodies all over the place. I've cleaned up a bit though and got rid of the bodies so it looks much better now.

I have my new favorite song of Regina's for the moment.

Somedays

Somedays aren't yours at all,
They come and go
As if they're someone else's days
They come and leave you behind someone else's face
And it's harsher than yours
And colder than yours

They come in all quiet
Sweep up and then they leave
And you don't hear a single floor board creak
They're so much stronger
Than the friends you try to keep
By your side

Downtown, Downtown
I'm not here, not anymore
I've gone away
Don't call me, don't write

I'm in love with your daughter
I wanna have her baby
I'm in love with your daughter
So can I please

Downtown, Downtown
I'm not here, not anymore
I've gone away
Don't call me, don't write
I've gone away
Don't call me, don't write
Don't call me, don't call me, don't call me
Don't write, don't write, don't write, don't write, don't write

Somedays aren't yours at all
They come and go
As if they're someone else's days
They come and leave you behind someone else's face
And it's harsher than yours
And it's colder than yours...

Her voice on some of the notes in this song give me the chills. :hearts:

Have you talked to the managers there? Ask them about your 'career path' in AE?

Haute
09-09-2006, 07:44 AM
The most recent had been a few weeks ago when I confirmed with them that they were keeping me once the Back-to-School season ended, which is the season that I was hired for. But as far as whether I'm part-time now, or if there's going to be a pay raise in the near future, I haven't asked them.

Lee
09-09-2006, 07:52 AM
If you really want to continue working there and have want to have more working hours, you may want to be more agressive.

Approach the manager with the plan for your future in AE. Like you want to work as a permanent part time guy there. How many hours you like to work in a week. What kind of position you look forward to in another 6 months and/or a year.

Haute

I've only been there three months and having talked with a few people today, some of them have been there longer than I have and haven't gotten a raise since they were hired, so I don't think I should be trying to push for a raise so soon already. Ginger beef? Hmm, so how much of the food sold in Chinese restaurants is really authentic Chinese food? Like orange chicken, is that a genuine dish? And that makes me sad to know crab rangoon really isn't Chinese. It's still delicious though!

Sunshine

Mr. Sunshine in the morning
In the morning light
Won't you come down from the ceiling
Won't you stay the night
Baby won't you stay the night

In the summer I remember days so long and hot
These past weeks it has been raining
And now my song's a flood
Baby now my song is a flood

You've been driving down that same road
Road rage in your eyes
So won't you come down from the ceiling
Won't you hear my cries
Won't you hear my cries

Braille
by Regina Spektor

She was lying on the floor and counting stretch marks
She hadn't been a virgin and he hadn't been a god
So she names the baby Elvis
To make up for the royalty he lacked

And from then on it was turpentine and patches
From then on it was cold Campbell's from the can
They were just two jerks playing with matches
Cause that's all they knew how to play

And it was raining cats and dogs out side of her window
And she knew they were destined to become sacred road kill on the way
And she was listening to the sound of heavens shaking
Thinking about puddles, puddles and mistakes

And from then on it was turpentine and patches
From then on it was cold Campbell's from the can
They were just two jerks playing with matches
Cause that's all they knew how to play

Elvis never could carry a tune
She thought about this irony as she stared back at the moon
She was tracing the years with her fingers on her skin
Saying why don't I begin again
With turpentine and patches
With cold Campbell's from the can
After all I'm still a jerk playing with matches
It's just that he's not around to play along
I'm still an ass hole playing with matches
Blowing out my wishes blowing out my dreams
Just sitting here and trying to decypher what's written in Braille upon my skin...

My thoughts on the brown are that I can't properly color coordinate it with my jeans and shirts, that it'd only be good for when I'm wearing white/brown/khaki, and thus would require me to buy one of the white or black shoe in order to coordinate with the blue, gray, yellow, green, etc. that I wear. Working retail has ruined buying clothes for me, because it's not simple anymore, it has to be a thought-out process now.

It's not a nice feeling to have, but it's just something you go through every now and then, whether or not you like it. You may feel like crap for a couple more days, but you should soon perk up and start feeling better.

Sometimes, just realising that feeling crap is temporary does the trick - you know that you don't feel good, but it doesn't preoccupy you as much because 'this too shall pass'.

The thing that's really bothering me is that it's been more than a couple of days, more like a couple of weeks; which is why I'm feeling pathetic and disgusted with myself.

I am trying to find stuff to preoccupy myself, but it's not helping, only reminds me of the problem...I don't even understand how sometimes, but it does.

I don't know, maybe you can try focusing on the feeling itself without thinking about it? That's what works for me, sometimes I just try and write a description of the feeling and I just ignore all the conscious thought that comes with it.

Otherwise, talk it over with someone close to you whose advice you trust, or talk it over with someone random who has nothing emotional invested in the situation. It's taken me a while to realise this, but sometimes researching something like this as though it were a term paper brings up a lot of different options of dealing with it, and it always feels a little better to have a whole set of things to try out when dealing with a situation that's bothering you.

Good luck with dealing with whatever it is, Randy!

And school is going okay as well. Had to sit through this 2 hour meeting today though for the ICC (I honestly don't remember what the letters stand for Inter-Club something...I don't know lol); it's part of the structure governing clubs/organizations at U of M, and it was a mandatory meeting. Overall it was pretty boring, but I think I've found some connections that will help us out for Pi Sigma Alpha. :) And my classes are pretty good, I have 2 exams tomorrow so I'm not really looking forward to those (which reminds me that I need to study for them tonight!). Work, class, and PSA are about all that I have going right now, and pretty thankful for that because it's only the second week of classes and I'm already stressed between the 3 of those.
