Pfft not even German:rolleyes:], Oli, Kristian Pless is winning consecutive matches, even my 'girl player' Cornet got to a final. Then there's Jonas and Robin. Happen to have any updates about him Romko?

Well, usually Gordo waits to come back until he is fully recovered so seeing him on the draw gives me good hope he feels ok again. But of course his back will always be delicate.

He plays Kevin Anderson in the 1st round. He has a very big serve, but likes to play from the baseline and for a big guy can defend quite well.

Not a problem really, well it's not far from Bs As and also the field is weaker and he can get some matches there.

As for Davis Cup. This is very simple and a generic response. The team is so much more important than any individual and Calleri's form doesn't deserve him to be selected at the moment.

Roitman/Hernandez played doubles with each other during all 4 events of the SA/Latin claycourt swing, and were dream team no. 3.

The language for this section of the forum is in English, so if you are going to post articles in another language, then please at least include a summary in English of the article. There is an Spanish speaking section of MTF.

Basically the article says that Calleri was only going to play doubles, but since Chela pulled out, he is playing singles as well along with Nalbandian and Cañas. He is going to enjoy the feeling of being an amateur, while he is happy to play singles, it's disappointing that Chela had to withdraw with a groin problem.

He found out from Chela, on the phone that he wasn't going to be able to play.

He says it's a dream to play there and very different from the circuit. The training for an event every 4 years, and the sacrifices that these sportsmen have made is very different from us. I like the idea of sharing the experience for 2 weeks with other sportspeople and events, doubles isn't a big part of it, but it's an equal part.

He was in Athens before, he suffered a torn abdominal muscle, while won against Beck in the 1st round, he lost to Andreev in R2 and this time wants to take advantage of the opportunity.

About Monaco. "He's feeling a lot better. I had pneumonia and it's a difficult illness. He lost 7kg, but has got back 3 or 4kg. He is strong and recovering well.

At the end, he was asked whether this was going to be his last year and denied it.

I fancy Agustin to come through his encounter with Ljubicic. Regarding the second round match, I have to admit that I'm a die-hard Murray fan. That said if Agustin manages to pull off a win against Andy, then I will have to bury a sweet-bitter feeling. ;) Funny thing is that, most probably, Stan will be waiting to caress whoever in the third round. :p

Alberto Mancini, capitan of argentina's team, will confirm today the four names to the semifinal tie against Russia. The names surely would be: David Nalbandian, Juan Martin Del Potro, Guillermo Cañas and Agustín Calleri.

VAMOS GORDO!

Good luck to whoever Mancini chooses! He has a good camp to choose out of as Pico and Schwank are valuable competitors too :)

Yes, however, we used to have more competitives teams... Pico isn't in his 100% actually and although Schwank is a fantastic player, I dont see him would be ready for a Davis Cup semifinal.

martine2
09-03-2008, 06:21 AM
Yes, you are right and I'm sure he'll make the right choice.

JMDP is in super form. With Gordo it always can go either way but he usually does well in DC. Nalby's and Willy's form isn't what it should be lately but they should be ok and their experience will be valuable for the team.
I like Schwank a lot too and he has the talent but as you say it may be a little bit too soon. Better for him to get some ATP tour experience now and his chance to join the DC team will come :)

"Willy and I have played together, I believe that there is no very much mystery in this point. Knowing ourselves, knowing which are the qualities of each one, we have to take advantage of it and I believe that we could be a great doubles".
"It s going to be a difficult tie, especially because Davydenko and Andreev play very well"

Here we go with the translation... I did my best, but it wasn't easy so for the Spanish speakers, please correct me if there are too many mistakes ;)

They have the energy of two youngsters, but that’s not what they are anymore.
Calleri (32) and Canas (30) could be called “the oldies” of the Argentine team, which is looking forward to a very big opportunity, namely to win the Davis Cup which would make the players of this generation live on forever.

For Del Potro, the 19yr old youngster it will be the first participation. He’ll make his debut at home in Parque Roca.
They will live every moment of it. Keep the nerves under control and take advantage of their experience and of the opportunities, in the hope of winning this trophy that would make history for Argentine tennis.

What is so special about participating in the Davis Cup?

I’m thinking about winning the DC all the time and I’ve participated in many ties already. I always give everything and I want to win for my country. It would be the ultimate reward for this generation of players having already won Grand Slams, Master Series and been top 10 (Cañas)

I know that time is ticking away for me and one of my biggest wishes is to win the DC, for me personally and for Argentine tennis. But don’t think about the future now and I’m living every moment of the present.(Calleri).

What do you contribute to the team?

Agustin and I are the veterans but also David participated a lot of times already. Each of us contributes to the team in a different way and tries to be there when it’s needed.
You could call it our wisdom, if this is the right word, of having been in many ties already, of having lived good and bad moments. Our experience. (Cañas).

I could bring added value to the team because of the experience of having been in several semifinals already. (Calleri).

What about Del Potro?

He’ll make his debut at home, which isn’t the same pressure as playing abroad.
He is the winning type, has a great attitude and doesn’t let himself be affected easily.
If he has questions, we’ll be there and we’ll support him as much as possible.
I made my debut in Canada as a visitor and afterwards I played here, but it always felt good to play at home and for him it will be the same. (Calleri).

He is the new blood. He’ll make his debut at home exactly when he’s living and incredible stage in his career. This is important and positive. We’ll be there for him when he needs it.
But he is relaxed and full of confidence. We all believe in him. (Cañas).

Doubles will be different. Won’t it feel strange not playing with Nalbandian?

We all know what David is like as a player. But in DC a point is a point and each point is of the same importance. We all do our utmost best to win and to me the sensation is the same with any player I play with. (Cañas).

David wants to play it all and he has a tremendous talent. However this would be very difficult now, because it’s going to be tough from the start and there also is the tactics to consider and whatever is best for the team.
It’s been a long time since Willy and I played together, but I’ve always been lucky to find my game and be complementary when I hadn’t played with people for a long time. Moreover, we know each other’s game very well. (Calleri).

Wishing for a perfect Friday so you can celebrate on Saturday?

Let’s hope so. Argentina has the quality of players to win comfortably. Finish 2-0 on Friday would be spectacular, but it also could be the other way round. We could win but just as well lose 4-1. People I talked with are very excited and think we’ll win easily because we are the locals, but this can’t be taken for granted at all. It’s not like that in football and even less in tennis (Calleri).

We were thinking of winning the doubles and get the point. It would be fabulous to start 2-0 but we have to realize that it is a very difficult tie, all 5 points, but we can win them all.
That’s why we have to fully concentrate on winning. Both teams have players with a lot of variety in their game. (Cañas).

If somebody could tape some matches, it would be very much appreciated. I won't be home this weekend, so I'll miss most of it
