Federer v Hewitt

Yes I thought Nadal would win but realistically a Federer win over Hewitt would be far more satisfying.

So what is everyones predictions?

I will take Federer in 3 or 4 sets

Federer in 3 ruthless sets!!!! Go Ninja!!!!!! :bounce:

Hard to say. I hope it'll be a great match. I am crazy about both of them, so I don't want to root for either of the two.

Federer in straight sets.

My only prediction is close and long. Very long, possibly.

Hewitt has an overwhelming head to head record, yet Federer in my view has been the most talented player of the last year. Either way I will be both happy and sad so may the best man win.

Well I'm not overly confident in my prediction, because if Federer plays at his best he will leave Lleyton for dead, but nevertheless I'm going for a repeat of the Davis Cup, Hewitt in 5. 12-10 in the fifth. LOL.

Hewitt in 4 :D

The key will be if Federer's backhand is working. Virtually every backhand shot of Lleyton's will go cross court to Federers backhand so it will put under a lot of pressure.

The backhand was still a bit shaky against Reid (compared to Houston form where he was blasting winners past winners from the backhand as well), particularly early on but the forehand - wow. I know Nadal has a amazing forehand but Federer kills it in terms of control, placement and pace when needed.

If Federer hits a more effective forehand than Nadal did tonight I'd be very shocked and very impressed. Nadal was hitting forehands faster than he was serving!

Normally I would go for Roger, but knowing Roger's ability to choke, against Lleyton it will be over!

This is a no-brainer. The real question should be, will Hewitt eat a bagel first, second or third set?

Roger in straight sets.

Go Roger!

Who knows?! I could see it going either way. I voted Hewitt, but without any real confidence in that decision...

Over five sets, Hewitt's consistency can be a real advantage. We all know what Roger is capable of, but inspiration over a long match can be hard to sustain. Hewitt's more pedestrian approach might win out here.

If Federer wins (and I'm praying for it!) it will have to be in 3 or 4 sets...I can't see him beating Hewitt in a close match at a Slam.

I have NO idea! I like both players and I'm hoping it goes to five sets. Good luck to both! :yeah: :bounce:

I'm also hoping ESPN will give us a break from %#$%& Venus and show the damn match! :fiery:

I voted Federer to get the numbers more evened out, I'm pretty clueless. Though I think that if Federer's gonna do it, he's gotta do it quick and ruthless. Don't think Hewitt will lose a fivesetter.

No idea really, I haven't seen yet a Roger's or Hewitt's match, then I really don't know how good is their level; but it will definitely be close....I don't think Roger will choke btw...

Roger will win 6-3, 6-1,6-4!!! Go Roger!!!!! :D Peel the Potato!!! :bounce:

What do you mean his stats arent impressive. There pretty damn good. Still too many errors, hitting alot of winners though, & is has been very solid at net!!!

I agree with most that it will either most likely be a realitively quick win for Roger, or a long grinding win by Lleyton.

Vass
01-25-2004, 03:19 AM
You speak of Roger's ability to choke and all, but is there any indication that it will be so? So far I didn't see any. He was playing great, and I think he has a bigger momentul than Hewitt right now.

sigmagirl91
01-25-2004, 03:23 AM
We hope so, for Roger's sake. I don't want him to blow a two-set lead against Hewitt, engage in a long, drawn out affair, and emerge on the losing end.

WyverN
01-25-2004, 03:42 AM
wow the results of the poll are a bit surprising, guess we will see

Hard to say.... tomorrow is Australia Day and the whole crowd will be so much for Roger.... Just like the atmosphere in Davis Cup I believe....

Go Go! Roger! Show us the result that shouldn't be happened in Davis Cup last September..... :D

Most likely Federer b/c Lleyton didn't really play all that well against Nadal; i thought he was quite lucky to get away with that win mainly cos Rafal was inexperienced. I'm thinking Roger in 4 sets...

6-7 4-6 7-5 6-4 7-5 hewitt

WyverN

yep Hewitt wont be making a 2 set comeback again, he needs one of the first 2 sets.
First set is crucial

I really hated the draw when I saw my two favourites in the same eighth

Anyway I think Roger will win in 4, but whoever wins I will be happy for the winner and sad for the loser. I just hope it is a classic match :)

At the same time,I want Roger to pull a five sets win.He need to show us that he can hang in there. The key for Roger is stay concentrate and hang in there, and Roger is not good at it.

Well, it's about time for Rogi to just DO it! He has to turn this h-t-h around, after all, he IS the #2 player... it's his bad luck to get Hewitt as early as the R16 just because Lleyton decided to go walkabout and caddy Greg Norman instead  [OK I am being facetious!! :p ]. Anyway, Rogi has to prove he can hang in there with the most tenacious, persistent, push-himself-beyond-the-pain-threshold player out there! Rogi [and Juanqui] s know what Lleyton's like -- he NEVER gives up even when he's down 2 sets to love...

Just do it to Lleyton, Rogi, in his own backyard! ;)

Im happy with either one winning as long as its a long, hard and protracted battle --that way Nalbandian will have an easier time dispatching the winner ;) lol. There's no way it'll be a three setter.

SaFed2005
01-25-2004, 05:43 PM
I am hoping Federer will win but u cant tell coz he always has trouble against baseliners like Nalbandian and Hewitt... But "if" he plays like he did at the Tennis Masters Cup or Wimbeldon, he will definately win in straight sets... with him dominating the game...

It's really a tough one to predict and I just hope Roger will be able to win in 3 and yes I believe that the first set is the key even though we all know what a fighter Lleyton is sometimes he's like a wall bringing every dam ball back....

....fortunately there's Roger on the otherside who's pretty good in that too and beeing able to create winners where odhters can't.

Just to bad I have to work.... grrr would love to see that match oh well

Good luck Roger!!

I think Roger will win this match but I won't be too unhappy if Lleyton wins.
we also share a liking in federer! sweet.
it's 29 to 29 right now in the poll... pretty crazy.
i think federer will win. he's playing better than lleyton right now for sure and really wants revenge.
