Marat to come through

Hopman Cup is one thing but a Slam totally diff.

Marat's had more matches under his belt.
Blake's had a VERY LUCKY draw, and escaped when Carlos withdrew.

It's a tricky one because Blake can really annoy Marat. He's persistant and just fights fights fights, goes for his shots, isn't afraid to play his game. Anyway, it really depends on Marat's mentality on the day. They played before and I saw the match and it was like this: Marat just having the edge, had some match points in the tiebreaker in the second, but didn't pull through, James Blake fighting hard, Blake diving for this ball at the net and making it: oh guess what, Blake wins the second set..then Blake wins the third 6-4.

Marat should have won that match. But he let it slip away.

So, if he does that on Sunday, there will be no Safin vs. Roddick.

Marat in 4, he's bound to be more confident after yesterday's match......allez!!

I kind of want a Safin-Roddick matchup. A former US Open champ vs. the reigning champ. Two new balls duking it out. This would be an interesting contest. Have they played one another before? If so, what's the H2H?

1-0 Marat, they played in 2001,i think it was in LA, but thats completely irrelevant, Andy was nowhere near the player he is now.

I like James AND Marat a lot. But, I'm personally pulling for Marat here because I really want him to go all the way. From the itzy, bitzy, teeny, tiny bit I've seen of them in this tournament, though, James looks stronger to me right now. At any rate...

GO MARAT GO!!!

I'm rooting for Marat all the way!

I love james, but I definitely don't want Andy vs James match up, that would be too predictible ;)

I realy think that the Safin-Roddick is too early for Marat. I hate to say this, but Roddick will definetely have the edge over him right there. The match might be one sided, ofcourse this is exactly what Andy's fans want. I would have enjoyed this more in one or two months.

Marat Safin will rise! Revenge will be his! Blake will go down!
Judging by the summaries I saw of Roddicks matches (yes, there are people in the world who don't get to see him play), Safin would need to at least maintain the level of the last 2 sets against Martin just to keep up with Roddick. But a big match-up could be what he's craving for and he's been showing great progress in just a few matches. I can't wait!!!!
h2h is 1-0 for Safin, somewhere in 2001 on American hardcourt if I'm not mistaken -- so not much info there. I'm curious to find out how they will play each other. I don't think Safin's return is already back up to standard it was before, but it's still among the best.

I think that Marat; after his match ag. Martin I see him a bit better, while James, well, definitely got to do something good to be where he is right now, but I don't see him going further than this.

I hope Marat can win it in 3; but as many of you said, I think it will be in 4...

Look people: how many unforced errors did Marat have against Blake? 49 in 3 sets. 4 days ago Marat made over 50 errors. In the 5 set match, with a disastrous 2nd set, Marat made only 32 errors. huh. Signs of improvement? Aces wouldn't be lacking against Blake and winners will increase, as they do day by day. Last match against Blake was even, but now, improved Marat will have more control.

That match up makes me very nervous. I would be surprised if the match was one sided. Safin is no Dent. :)

Also in his press conference, Safin said that he believed he should have won the match in Perth against Blake. With that attitude, I believe that he will win his match against Blake. The only question to me is how much of a struggle it will be.

I see Marat gaining more confidence in himself with each match. He is extremely positive in his press conferences. I think Marat is getting very close to where he wants to be.

James Blake has been on fire all of a sudden this year. And Marat seems to have been struggling in his matches.

I'm hoping Safin will be the Dent to Blake's Roddick.

I think marat has gained confidence with his win over Todd Martin. I hope he wins, but I give the edge to Blake. James had a much less arduous 3rd round and seems to be playing extremely well right now. Still, Safin is not Olivier Patience.

I don't want to start a heated discussion all over again, but... it is still a question (or maybe it's no longer a question?) of what's hotter and more on fire this year : Marat ranked 88 and winning or James ranked twice as high and winning, what ever the score.

And Tangy, you can hope what ever you like, just like everybody does. :D

oops that had slipped my mind. I was checking the atp website at 3 in the morning or something and they hadnt registered Hoopman yet or whatever. My brain wasnt registering very well.

All the same, I think it will be close, but safin should pull through.

Dayum...only 4 votes for my Darling Big Butt...and this after he went and showed thw whole world that he is a Baldy #2 -- which alone shoulda made me vote for him. not to mention the fact that he's morphed himself into a serve-n-volleyer -- can you dig it?

but in truth, i am with the majority in this. sorry James baby but Marat is gonna have you for lunch...;)

who wants to see Duck vs Big Butt ????

most of us apart from Duck fans wanna see Marat vs Duck.

its still early yet for Marat, give him another 2 months or so and he'll be flying.

i haven't seen much of Marat as yet but he has always had a varied game to be fair. on a good day he can do it all.

but James has been shocking me. in many respects! who knew he could be bald and ugly? and who knew he would still be in the draw?
