OK This may seem pretty useless, and maybe it is, but I would like to know who the most popular male players are in here. This is how you can participate:

- Send in your personal top 10 (#1 in your list will be considered your personal favourite) in this thread or by PM.

Then I create a ranking. The #1 in a list receives 10 pts, the #10 1 point.. This ranking will be a top 100!

If it is success and people think it is fun, I might make one for the female players as well.

So, vote for your favourites! :)

WyverN, if you think that ten names is too much, you can name less than ten names. 10 is the maximum number though ;)

OK Rosie, have edited the rankings then :)

I have calculated the scores and will post them after these messages:

- The ones that mentioned "Blake" without a first name: I take it you meant James and not Thomas. Please correct me if I am wrong.
- The same goes for WyverN. Could you specify whether you meant Todd or Alberto Martin. I used Todd in the scores, so again, correct me if I am wrong.

If anyone has an idea how to make the lay-out nicer than this, please tell me! :) It was quite some work, but then the Forum screws it up lol :(

I also make a country ranking, showing which country has the most points, and how many players in the top 100 (or top 66 so far) are from that country:

Nr. Country - Number of players - Points
------------------------------------------------

1. Spain - 8 - 149
2. Argentina - 6 - 114
3. Russia - 2 - 78
4. Switzerland - 2 - 70
5. United States - 7- 68
6. Morocco - 2 - 52
7. Sweden - 4 - 40

9. Australia - 4 - 36
10. Chile - 3 - 29
11. Brazil - 2 - 22
- Great Britain - 2 - 22
13. Germany - 3 - 19
14. Slovakia - 1 - 17
15. Belgium - 2 - 14
16. The Netherlands - 1 - 11
17. Belarus - 1 - 8
- Austria - 1 - 8
- Croatia - 1 - 8
20. Thailand - 1 - 7
- Bosnia Herzegovina - 1 - 7
22. South Africa - 1 - 6
23. Canada - 1 - 4
24. Finland - 1 - 3

Please remember: not all votes have been counted yet! ;) But all votes will eventually be processed.

CooCooCachoo
01-23-2004, 07:00 AM
WyverN, I think Safin will make a comeback, looking at the results which I still have to process..

OK Flora: there is no need to worry. So far, Popp and Verdasco will definitely make the list. (Even one of my votes, Orlin Stanoytchev is in there)

I think I forgot to mention, but this top 100 is only for the active players (Kafelnikov and Rafter still count as active, since they have until recently played matches..)! Therefore Fedex, I would like to ask you whether you can post a new top 10 :) GeorgeWHitler started a thread for Top 100 All Time Favourites, so you can go there with the top 10 you supplied here :)

By the way, quite surprisingly, these three top 20 players have not yet made the list:

- Jiri Novak
- Martin Verkerk
- Sjeng Schalken

Other top 50 players that are absent:

- Sargis Sargsian
- Dominik Hrbaty
- Vincent Spadea
- Radek Stepanek
- David Sanchez
- Mikhail Youzhny

Weird, huh?! :) Well, except the Spadea one..

OK, it took me a lot of work, but finally, the updated rankings are there! The figures that are between rackets, indicate the ranking change of the players; + means a player moved up, - means a player dropped, = means that a player remains on the same spot whereas - means that a player is new in the list.

So far 89 players have made it to the list!

These are the current rankings:

Thanks CooCooCachoo for taking the time and trouble to do all that - interesting results I think - I'm still very surprised to see that Safin didn't come out on top despite his many, many fans here, and personally really pleased that "my David" made it so high on the list!

You're welcome Rosie ;)

I am actually very glad that Safin is not winning. It's sad that Kucera and Robredo are dropping big time.

What I find surprising is that Novak, Verkerk and Schalken still haven't even received one point, whereas Stanoytchev (that is my own fault) and Pilic have..

The 'lay-out' of the list is better now right? My own design lol ;)

Yes - much better! And as for your Kucera - you may be pleased to know I was cheering him on big time the other morning (I'm not a great fan of Hewitt), but unfortunately it was not to be :(

Interesting results, CooCoo. Just curious, but are the players names listed in order of popularity?

I'm surprised Russia isn't first, considering the huge number of Safin fans in this place.

I hope so. Rotterdam always seems to have a good line-up and is a very successful tournament, - and a great city too :) Must admit I've never been there for the tournament itself as it's held the same week as Buenos Aries, so obviously David always plays at home, and I can't afford to "waste" time off work going to places where I'm not going to see him if you know what I mean! Hope you have a great time there.

Hehe.. it wouldn't be a waste of time ;) I take it you go to Wimbledon and Queen's every year then, since you are in London? That is great too!

Actually, I don't like the city of Rotterdam, and I think that the tournament of Rosmalen is nicer, friendlier, but the line-up is terrific every year. You should go someday!

3. Juan Carlos Ferrero
4. Simon Aspelin
5. David Nalbandian
6. Jerome Golmard
7. Karol Kucera

Ok, Simon Aspelin is only a doubles player but he is SOOO sweet that I always go to his matches at the Aussie Open. I don't know if I can include doubles-only players... if I can't, move everyone after him up one and put in Andy Roddick at #10.

Oops! Hehe. Will have to contact Croat123 then.. Pilic is before my time then. Makes me wonder how I know his name anyway.. lol ;)

PJ Girl doubles players.. yes!! I voted for Jonas Bjφrkman (I like him more as a doubles than as a singles player) and Daniel Nestor, so.. That's all good!

Good to see some new names in the results, so that a top 100 will actually be possible! :)

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! It will be a while before I'll come up with new results (like a day from now), since I have to work today and won't have time until tomorrow morning! But there will be more!

A message for voters:

If a player has retired, he cannot be included in the list. Therefore, I ask you to only name players that are still active on the Tour. However, players such as Kafelnikov (who is said to have retired) and Rafter (retired, but still played a few matches) can be included.
Since it takes a lot of time notifying people about names they mentioned, but that don’t meet the criteria to participate in this vote, I stopped doing that. This results in the fact that I won’t give points to that player (e.g. if someone mentions “Michael Chang” on number 6, five points won’t be handed out at all). The same goes for people who mention two or more players for one spot.
Conclusion: please only mention active players, and only one player per position ;) Thank you!

Please, keep voting! :)

the player's ranking is quite interesting...Marat n Federer fighting it out???

looks like its a runaway win for the country's ranking....SPAIN!!!

Yeah, Spain was going to be quite obvious really. The fight for #2 is interesting though, since the USA, Russia and even Argentina are in with a strong chance.

It looks to me, as if Safin will win. Federer and Ferrero are close, though.

What surprises me in the player's ranking, is that players such as Verkerk, Schalken, Novak and Pavel hardly get any points, whereas Olivier Rochus and Mikhail Youzhny are doing really well!

These Top 50 (Entry ranking) players, have not yet been given a single point:

- Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty, who is in great shape at the start of this season.
- Czech Radek Stepanek (is it because of his looks? ;))
- And David Sanchez from Spain.

Fedex: So i cant have Pete or Edberg or Rafter??

Wrong.. hehe. It is complicated, it is. You cannot have players that have officially retired (Sampras, Edberg, Chang et cetera), but you can have Rafter, since he still plays a few matches (I know, hardly any, but still..) on the ATP Tour.

Experimentee

Rafters "comeback" was just a one off, to get ready for an exo against Wilander. He is still officially retired and says he will not do it again.

I know that Experimentee, but he is a special case when it comes to allowing him in the rankings or not. Therefore, I chose to let him enter.

These are the only few who caught my attention since I came back from long break of tennis in last year:

For his game and personality :
1) Roger Federer
For his game :
2) David Nalbandian
For his determination :
3) Andre Agassi
For his personaility :
4) Younes (great life story and such wonderful person)
For loyalty to my region:
5) Paradorn (though his tennis did impress me quite a bit in this year TATA open)

I know there'll be changes as to how I feel over time, but one thing for sure is Federer has my ultimate support no matter what coz he brought me back to tennis world!

Well, eventually it is all about the final singles ranking. What player is the most popular on MTF? Besides the usual amount of points, I also calculated the percentage of the entire points (4560 in total) that the top 20 players received. Ironically enough, the Top 100 consists of 104 players, since some players scored the same amount of points.

Have a look:

Hey all ;)

Before I started this thread, I had no idea it was going to be this popular. Since it is so time-consuming, and because hardly any new voters participated (doh, a lot had already voted ;)), I decided to stop the voting procedure. Therefore, the rankings, which will be posted shortly after this message, can be considered the final rankings. Besides the usual statistics, I tried to add some other statistics to give more information about the depth and the meaning of some results (e.g. the average points per player per country).

Before I post these rankings, I would like to thank everyone who voted. A massive number of 4560 points have been given out by an amazing number of 86 voters!

Thank you for voting (in alphabetical order) and a worship to all these voters:

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

It is no surprise that Spain leads the country rankings, because a country with a lot of good players is bound to get a lot of points for a lot of different players. In order to see what country actually is most popular, I calculated the average score per player per country. Example: Country X receives a total of 16 points for 4 players. That means the average per player in that country is 4.

Nr.: Country – Average score per player)
------------------------------------------------------

1. Russia – 120,8

2. Morocco – 76,5
3. Belarus – 69,0
4. Switzerland – 67,8
5. Brazil – 66,0
6. Spain – 58,7
7. Argentina – 54,4
8. Thailand – 52,0
9. Great Britain – 42,7
10. United States – 39,4
11. Germany – 37,4
12. Australia – 32,4
13. Belgium – 27,0
14. France – 26,8
15. Chile – 25,7
16. Slovakia – 23,0
17. Finland – 21,0
18. Croatia – 18,3
19. Sweden – 17,1
20. Ecuador – 16,0
21. Austria – 15,5
22. Serbia & Montenegro – 15,0
23. The Netherlands – 14,5
24. Italy – 12,0
25. Romania – 11,0
26. South Africa – 8,0
27. Czech Republic – 7,0
28. Armenia – 5,0
29. Canada – 4,0
29. Peru – 4,0

Fascinating how polarizing some figures are. Many of the leaders in this poll also rank high in the HATED/DISLIKED poll.

I know, eh? Funny how Tim Henman is, I think, ranked the same in this poll and in the Most hated/disliked Poll.

Really.. learn to read..

And you're welcome all :)

I think it goes to show that Safin is more people's number one favourite, but that Roger is supported by a lot more voters. Me for instance; I didn't give him my 10 points, but I gave him like 5 or 6 and that happened a lot.

Yes, there was a minimum of one names and a maximum of ten names. When I use the scoring system I explained, I don't see why it would be warped.. Please explain..
