Do you think David Nalbandian is a strong candidate?

Angelito

I just wanted to know if anyone think, like me, of David as a strong candidate to win the Australian Open?
I believe 2004 is going to be THE YEAR for him, I bet he's going to finish in the top #3 at least.

Angel.

Well, of course he is

Deboogle!.
01-21-2004, 09:10 PM
Sure... he's been playing well, but as a few articles have said, he'll have to see how his wrist will hold up after a few tougher matches.

I wouldn't call him strong. I think he's an underrated dark horse. I like his game. He's like a human back board with a beautiful BH. But, every time I watch him, something goes wrong at the 11th hour. His wrist is worrisome and I think he gets frazzled over some of the biased/close/bad calls he seems to get all of the time. I want him to get a breakthrough. I think he can do it on any surface. So, maybe 2004 will be his year. Anyway, seeding not withstanding, he's one of my dark horses for this tournament.

Yes, he is.

After having watched his 1st match ag. Mello (who isn't a great referrent, but well....) I think David looks strong, he's playng very good, and he has said during his latest interviews that the wrist is perfect, all that makes me trust more in him to win this tournament. :)

I hope he can do it. :)

Of course, this is not the US, where it seems that ALL players who are not American get ignored. True, Dave has to work on that, but he's in Australia, and I doubt very seriously that he would have that problem....

I think you're right about the calls Tiffany.
I believe Australia is a much more fair place than the US. Regarding tennis at least.

he's a great athlete, gotta give him that, but he wont get
past QF .

sigmagirl91

In that case, then he will have defended his points from last year, mrp, if that's the best you can hope for him....
but, i think he can go to the final-even win it.

WyverN

I wouldnt call him a strong candidate
but certainly a darkhorse

sigmagirl91
01-22-2004, 11:13 AM
Well, wy, being a darkhorse contender is not really all that bad. At least the pressure's off, and he can play his game.
Anyway, he was not even a contender at Wimbledon in 2002, and look what happened. His first Wimbledon, and he goes all the way to the finals. No one but him can stake that claim, so I don't doubt that he could make some waves here....

Of course he is!!!! I think his chances are as good as anyones, i'm not really worried about the rist though. But he does have to get by Tim before he can have his QF showdown with my other favorite, Federer! Go David!!! :bounce:

Why do ppl think Nalby will have problems with Henman??? I don't get it. Head to head, the record is 4-1 Nalby, and now that he's no longer injured the Henman fans should be the ones worried here.

Of course he is. He has cruised all his matches so far. He seems to be in very good form. He has proved that he can defeat all the other strong contenders (Roddick, Agassi, Rogi :(, Ferrero). I also don't see Henman defeating him.

Angelito
01-22-2004, 09:01 PM
I don't see Henman defeating David neither Federer defeating him again.
The only one who is worring me is Hewitt 'cause they haven't faced each other since Wimbledon '02 and I really don't know how a match between them may end. But also, I'm sure David can defeat Hewitt too.

Anyway, his next match (against Ferreira) is going to be pretty tough, so one by one David 'till your first Slam.

Nalbandian is my dark horse. He looks great, just phenomonial. He's walking over everybody. He beat Roddick and Agassi in the warm up. Hes beaten Fed 5 times. Yea...this guy is defly a strong candidate...plus I gotta tell you...he looks damn cool and plays a similar type of game to what I try to play...

Last I checked, Pengy, Nalbi holds a 4-3 edge over Schuettler. Furthermore, Schuettler is non-factor in the tournament this year. So, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!!!!!!!!

Save the cute-ass argument for the women on the general board admiring Hewitt's or Safin's dick, OK.....

besides all that, um, I think Nal isn't a bad pick to win this it's better than saying James Blake to win it. I just think Agassi is the favorite and no one is stronger than him to win it.

Deboogle!.
01-23-2004, 10:04 PM
Blake won't win. If he gets through Marat he'll most likely face his slavemaster Andy. If somehow the stars all aligned and the seas parted and James beat Andy, he'd have to face Agassi (whom he has actually beaten, believe it or not) in Australia on Rebound Ace.... I don't predict much, but I'll say with about 95% conviction that James won't get to the finals.
