Good Luck David :) Be careful on that nasty, slippery grass and be sure you're fit and well for Stuttgart :)

David has drawn Stadler of Germany. I think they said he could meet GGL in the second round but the commentators kept talking over the draw. They got very excited when Federer was drawn against Gasquet.

Who is Stadler  Sounds like a far outside court match to me. Mind you - so does GGL - maybe I should swallow my Wimbledon hatred and go to the GGL match so I can re-create the match at RG when I was sitting with Javi

Simon Stadler is a 23 year old German player who has only played some Challengers and a lot of Futures. He's a lefty and ranked 262. All of this information curtsy of ........ my knowledge of everything tennis...... I mean ATPtennis.com. ;)

Seeing that David is not a big grassplayer, I'm not gonna take this to serious for him. Therefor the draw is pretty interesting. A possible 2nd round against GGL(btw, I would go and relive that golden moment, Rosie  ) and 3rd round against Gonzalez or Marat. If David makes it to the 3rd round that might be my first chance to see him play since round 1 and 2 surely will be played on court 1250. :ras:

Thanks for the information. And don't be so modest - I know you are a never ending fountain of knowledge :) Sadly, reliving my GGL moment is completely out of the question, because David is in the bottom half of the draw, which means he plays Tuesday and Thursday, and Thursday is the one day I really can't go, because I have a fairly long Hospital appointment on Thursday morning that I can't rearrange  So it looks like I pray for enough rain for him to be delayed til Friday, or try and blag a ticket off someone for Tuesday. Sorry - Wimbledon lovers - but I do hate the place so much there is NO WAY I'm going unless someone gives me a free ticket or a pass :p All that queueing and stuff, and jostling with drunken, idiots on Henman Hill is just gross :bolt: So - if you're reading this Javi - a free ticket would be nice for Tuesday or you'll just have to wait to see me til Stuttgart

David will also play doubles - which may be a better option for me to see him. Just wander down one evening later in the week and get him and the beautiful Tommy together in one place at the same time :inlove: Doubles at Wimbledon are always on obscure, cosy little outside courts too - so my favourite coach won't be able to avoid me! They won't win their 1st round match with big-serving doubles' specialist Arthurs - so it will be a one and only chance!!!

Wayne Arthurs AUS
Justin Gimelstob USA

David Ferrer ESP

Wouldn't it be great if Javier would send us a PM with details of where to pick up our free-tickets for Wimby and a plane-ticket for me. We could watch David's match and all go out for dinner.......

While I was mopping my floor just now  I was thinking that since you and me are both unemployed(as you can tell by the amount of time I spend behind my computer on MTF) at the moment, there should be a way to put all our ....ehum... talents and knowledge to good use. Any ideas?

 I also wondered. I can only assume her made a big fuss about having to start so late and asked for an early start tomorrow instead. I know things can be changed - but usually only if the players/coaches make a enormous noise about it  Anyway - we should know soon enough - and I should be there tomorrow :) As soon as I see a full OOP I will finally make my mind up.

Hola guys :wavey: I'm back, having survived the hell that is Wimbledon  Sorry Sue - but every trip I make there seems to make me loathe it more  - the crowds, the expense of everything, the queues for everything, and those nasty, narrow, walkways between the outside courts that aggravate my mild form of claustrophobia -I really hate being on them  There are not many people who can persuade me to set foot through the gates there!

Anyway - our David won - which is all that matters at the end of the day -though I would be lying to say that it was a good match. In fact I almost fell asleep in the 2nd set :o Can you imagine the embarrassment - falling asleep in a David match and so close to the beautiful Javier (ooops - :o - I digress) - that he couldn't fail to notice. Actually - he thought it was funny :p and I think he wanted to sleep too  but coaches aren't allowed to do that when they're meant to be working.

To be fair on David - he played very well in the first set - his passing shots were excellent, he was hitting the lines on both sides, and although his serve was a little wayward on occasions  his movement was making up for it, and Stadler did not have an answer to him.

In fact - that - I think - was the problem with the match.....Stadler seems like a nice lad and was very well behaved - but he was just not good enough to give David a close match - and, as often happens in such circumstances - he was kind of dragging David down to his level instead of the other way round. In the second set, David lost focus and concentration, which often happens when someone has won a first set so easily. He was moaning and whingeing and glaring at poor sweet Javi (who has a lot more patience with his behaviour than I would!) - and if Stadler had been a better player he would almost certainly have won the 2nd set. Luckily he didn't, and David upped his level just enough to win the 3rd set.

So - all in all - can't deny it - this was not a match I particularly enjoyed (maybe it's psychological with me - I HATE grass and Wimbledon, therefore I have a natural resistance to enjoying anything there!) - but - of course- there was one person that made my day - in fact probably my year :o and made my life complete :inlove: despite the horrors of SW19! Yes guys -I am still in love (or is it lust?) with Javier - and - yes I'm pretty sure he knows it and quite enoys the attention :haha:

OK - I am off to a Hospital appointment now - catch you all later - and Vamos David tonight.

No - sorry Sjoukje. The Verdasco match clashed wth Agustin - and I had to go and see him lose didn't I  Plus then there was the first set of Robredo (before it go to dark). So - sorry - poor Fer  I was not there for him.

As for choosing to watch tennis on grass - let's just say someone gave me a free ticket so I didn't have to queue (and I got free strawberries and champagne thrown in :p ), and it was a good chance to be (very) close to Javier :haha: When I have recovered from the stress of being so near the horrid, slimy green stuff, and if someone gives me another freebie - I may go once more to see Ferrer/Robredo.

"David the terrible" :awww: As I said - I've seen other players behave like that who annoy me a lot more - he's pretty harmless when he whines - you just want to give him a hug and a sweetie to cheer him up and stop him crying don't you? One thing I couldnt help noticing though - when he makes a great shot that deserves appplause Javi kind of ignores it - yet when he makes a bad shot he starts to say "vamos" and encourages him - it's too sweet.

One thing I couldnt help noticing though - when he makes a great shot that deserves appplause Javi kind of ignores it - yet when he makes a bad shot he starts to say "vamos" and encourages him - it's too sweet.

Interesting parenting. ;) A hug and a sweetie? Well sometimes all I wanna give him is a kick in the butt. But hey.....if a hug and a sweetie will help.
Have you seen Sue's picture of cutie-coach btw? Nothing bad about that one. :hearts:

Yes - of course I did! And I doubt he is confused - usually men that look like him (especially as they get older and more experienced in life :aplot: ) are well aware that women find them attractive. He probably expects t!!

I hope I don't curse him - like I did Safin  - but he 2-0 in sets & 3-0 in games. Who'd have thought my last player standing would be Mr Ferrer. Last night I was looking for a tape for today & found his 1/8 match from Rome v Martin - so of course I had to watch it - but they said quite a few times that David describes Javi has his 2nd father it also said he was 5ft 10 so this year he has lost an inch because he is offically 5ft 9.

Well done David. What a shame though it's not going to be Marat/David. I got nothing done this morning because Mr. Safin insisted on losing in 5. I love Gonzo really but Marat is just more my guy. Now Gonzo is once again out of luck for my support because he's playing David in the next round. I was very impressed with Fena, so it's gonna be a tough one for David. Good thing is, since Fena is a South-American, the match is for sure gonna be televised. I knew there was something good about it.

Hola chicas :wavey: I am just back from Wimbledon - David and Tommy lost their doubles in four sets  but I don't regret making the effort to go and support them at all - it was a very special day for me :inlove: The boys actually played really well (especially in the first set which they won 7-5), but in the end, the big serves of the grass court specialists won the day.

They seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot - laughing and joking, and chatting to people in the crowd. There was a great atmosphere on court with a crowd of Aussies cheering their Wayno (Arthurs) and also a large number of Spaniards with flags - the Verdasco/Nalbandian match was being played on the adjoining court, and one of the Spanish guys kept on texting his mate who was on that court to give us updates! And - yes - "us" did involve David and Tommy who were cheering their friend on from afar! Many, MANY congrats for that win by the way Sjoukje  you must be so happy.

Only downside of today - GIMELSTOB :banghead: If there was a new hate list on GM he would now be on the top of mine! What an obnoxious a**hole  He kept on deliberatley smashing the ball into it our boys  - he laughed at any of their errors, he sneered at the linespeople, was rude to the Umpire, made nasty comments about people in the crowd - what a complete ****** (insert whatever word you feel appropriate!). Funny thing was when Tommy R. deliberately smashed a ball back at him - he whinged and made such a fuss  I said rather too loudly - "miserable b**tard, you deserve it!" and he gave me such a nasty look so I guess he must have heard me - oh dear, what a shame

As for Javi - well, let's just say I'm very happy right now :) And specially for Linda - we may not have spoken about the ozone layer or world famine today - but global warming WAS mentioned and I just couldn't stop thinking about you :haha: And I didn't get any sweeties for David  but he did give his "Mum and Dad" lots of smiles whenever he came over in our direction.

Big special mention and thanks to Tommy R. who was very sweet to me as I wasn't feeling too well in the heat at one stage. Javi tells me it is warmer here than in Spain. Tommy really is a nice guy - and reading through your last posts, he is 5ft 11ins because I'm 5ft 8ins and he's about 3 inches taller than me.

I have quite a few photos - but too tired to upload them now - I'll do them sometime over the weekend.

Love you all

No - sadly guys - I am not there today  Saturday is the busiest day of the fortnight at Wimbledon - and it was impossible for my "source" to get me a ticket  And as they had already started queueng for today at 9.00am yesterday morning  (yes - honestly) - there was no way I could have joined the queue after David/Tommy's match and guaranteed getting onto Court 13. Hopefully - if David wins today I should be able to get a "freebie" for Monday - it's just Saturday that is the problem, especially with the Agassi/Nadal match.

And Ali - I beat you - I was in Waitrose at 8.30am today - trying to beat the worst of the heat and the football crowds. Luckily - my dislike of all things World Cup means I don't care if Davd's match clashes with England - in fact it will be great because it will give me an alternative to watch :) They better put it on interractive though - and not replace it with some unknown British woman playing doubles or something

So - good luck to my baby boy this afternoon - hope Fernando doesn't serve too big because David was just giggling too much to return when Arthurs and Gimelstob were doing that yesterday!! And, before anyone asks - NO - I was not going to as Javi for a free ticket :o That would have been too embarassing :o Catch you all later.

alisia
07-01-2006, 03:59 PM
I'm back at 4-1 he had a couple of break point chances but didn't convert, nice smash falling backwards followed by return winner followed by another 6-2. He upped his level & Fena wilted a little.

I thought they might have made more of a fuss to be honest I only saw the last game. David is now starting with "come on man" & shoulder shugging it was only 15-15

alisia
07-01-2006, 04:11 PM
Way to go Dima he's broke lubby Lou to take it into a 4th set tiebreak. fena is definately playing better & making our boy do alot of running but he's just served another ace follwed by another. 2-1. This is the match I was expecting now with every point being fought over.

FerrersLinda
07-01-2006, 04:12 PM
Why is our boy always so p***ed of?
VAMOS DAVID

alisia
07-01-2006, 04:17 PM
He worked hard to bring it back to deuce then Fena blasted down 2 bombs.

alisia
07-01-2006, 04:21 PM
Are you watching it Linda? He has come into the net more today than I think I have ever seen him before that was a nice easy service game for him. I think he gets p****d off with himself has a kind of motivation thing otherwise he is a very angry young man. I'll get my old psyche books out. Nice low volley followed by an unforced error by Fena 0-30 followed by a double giving David 3 break points a double gives him the break 4-2 to David. I don't think I've this much since I was at college.
And to make my day Dima won the tie-break & is now 2 sets all v Lubby Lou.
All of a sudden 2 good return of serves from Fena to give him 2 break points. Error by David gives Fena the break back followed by loud shouting from young Mr Ferrer he now has a face like a smacked bum :D Rosie your son needs you. They've not showed you Javi at all what have you done with him Rosie?

Sue
07-01-2006, 04:27 PM
I think David is a lot like Marat in the way that they can both be so tetchy and MAD on court, but are big sweeties off court. Better that way round than the other eh ?

Still can't find any coverage, so back here watching the SB.

FerrersLinda
07-01-2006, 04:27 PM

VAMOSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

alisia
07-01-2006, 04:49 PM
He just laughs at me because when I watch it live I'm very quiet. Fena had a problem with his foot. Dima is 5-2 in the 5th Yes. Lets just hope David can copy him by coming from 2-0 down & winning. He's started flapping his arms about again.

Sue
07-01-2006, 04:52 PM
LOL....if it helps his game he can flap all he likes!

VAMOS DAVID !!!!!!!!!!!!

alisia
07-01-2006, 05:03 PM
2 double faults gave David 2 break pts but Fena played 2 great forehands to save them, long fh gave David another break pt bt Fena saved again with a fh then Fena had a discussion with the umpire over the balls easy fh for Fena to hold. Fena is still talking to the umpire at the change of ends over the balls.

Sue
07-01-2006, 05:04 PM
Sounds like Fena's trying to mess with Davids head! Like its not messed up enough to start with...... ;-)

VAMOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still going with serve....come on you need to break, David. Focus! Come on- you can do it!

alisia

bad drop shot by David gives Fena easy fh. David just keeps on giving him a look now and again but nothing more. David wins that game with another ace. 3-3

Javi moved half way through the first set! He was in the second row by the baseline behind the Umpire's chair to start with - then he moved to the other side of the stadium - don't ask me why though  However, yesterday he wasn't so happy with the sun behind him - so maybe that's why he moved.

I must admit I am so sad we have gone out on penalties yet again but to lose to Portugal again is terrible but at least it was the last game for Sven thank god I'll be glad to not have read any more sorid stories about his sex life. As for Ronaldo there are rumours he wants to leave Man U so this may help his cause because he got Rooney sent off - his Man U teammate - then winked at the bench, then scored the final penalty. Unfortunately for me Italy are still in so my boy is now rooting for them to win, he's 1/2 Italian on his mums side.

Ferrer on Fire in Five

Saturday, 1 July, 2006

No. 23 seed David Ferrer of Spain won his third round match against Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, a quarter-finalist last year, 4-6, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

The only thing hotter than the temperature was the tennis. Apart from frequent towel breaks to wipe their hands and faces, the players ignored the conditions on Court 13 to produce a brilliant display of grass court tennis.

The first two games, full of blistering baseline rallies, went with serve. In the third game, receiver Gonzalez, seeded 10th, attacked the net and took Ferrer to deuce. After securing the advantage he broke serve with a sizzling cross-court forehand.

Ferrer promptly broke back with a superb passing shot that scorched past the volleying Gonzalez. Both players then held serve until the ninth game, when Gonzalez twice took Ferrer to deuce before breaking through. He then held serve to take the set 6-4.

Gonzalez broke quickly in the second set, and consolidated for a 2-0 lead. Ferrer showed he would not go down without a fight by winning his next service game to love. Gonzalez rebutted by using the drop shot three times to win his own service game to love. Games again went with serve until Gonzalez broke serve to lead 5-2, then won his serve to lead two sets to love.

Ferrer had won his first and second round matches in straight sets, and was not about to go down the way of his earlier opponents. He broke Gonzalez early in the third set to lead 3-0, and allowed the Chilean only two games before he broke Gonzalez again to take the set 6-2.

After a brief respite under the shade of the trademark purple and green Wimbledon umbrellas, the pair embarked on a feisty fourth set. Ferrer made the first break to lead 4-2, but Gonzalez responded in kind. A change of socks did little to help the Gonzalez cause, and he found himself at 0-40. He saved the first break point, but lost the second on a foray to the net. In the next game a sizzling passing shot gave Ferrer his first set point, and an unreturnable serve ensured that was all he needed. The match was level.

Gonzalez pulled off his left shoe and sock to reveal a bandaged ankle. The treatment he required from a trainer was not for his ankle, but for blisters. Ferrer was up and pacing, impatient to exploit his exponent’s weakness. He made Gonzalez run at every opportunity, but Gonzalez held his own, saving two break points with a signature drop shot. Gonzalez held, and games went with serve until the ninth when Gonzalez double faulted on break point.

This time Ferrer was serving not just for the set, but the match. He didn’t spare a point, and served an ace to book himself a spot in the round of 16 against 2002 Champion Lleyton Hewitt.

Congrats to David for playing well and winning! He's into the second week at Wimby and do you think the press cares? Of course not, esp in Spain... -- nor do they care about Verdasco also making the R16 on grass... whatever.

So the puking one beats the ducky-tailed one... yeah, but to what end? Only to go down in the next rd to Baggy [yes the lucky one]? It gets worse by the day...

Welcome Jill. :wavey:

This is from Hewitt's press conference yesterday.

Of his next opponent, Spaniard David Ferrer, Hewitt said: “I’ve never played him. He’s had a lot of good results on hard courts. Clay is obviously his best surface. He’s a tough player on all surfaces, I think, and he’s very competitive. I’ve never seen him sort of go away in matches. You know, two sets to love down out there today and coming back to beat González, so it’s gonna be a dogfight out there. Hopefully on grass I can put him under a little bit more pressure.”

My thoughts exactly Linda. I am sad - but I am proud too - and all in all, I am more proud than sad if that makes sense. David fought so hard - he is not a natural grass court player, he has very little experience on the surface - and he had to deal with the Showcourt and playing a former Wimbledon champion, - but he fought so hard and didn't let himself down.

I think he gained a lot of new fans out there - they gave him a standing ovation and John McEnroe said some really nice things about him in the commentary box.

I truly hope he can take lots of positives from this good run at Wimbledon, and that he can now enjoy some relaxing days off at home with his family before the European clay court season.

Well done David - you made me proud to be a fan of yours today

David should be a very happy guy, eventhough he didn't win. He played very well and the match (what I have seen) was very close. It's not often that a long rally doesn't go Davids way. But he and Leyton have such similar styles. And the difference as you said was just Leytons experience. He was also hammering David's bh, which is his weaker shot.

As for JMc saying nice things about David, there really was no way he could have said anything bad. There wasn't an obvious mistake in his play today. And I always think that people who actually see David play, get so much respect for him, because he never gives up and has awesome defense. :worship:

Well - he looked pretty happy at the end. I was just glad that he took that 3rd set - at one point I was scared he would lose it and go down in straight sets, and he deserved more than that. BBC cameramen showed me lots of Javi too :inlove: so I was happy :p

Match Reports

Hewitt Fights Off Ferrer

©Reuters / K. Lamarque

Monday, 3 July, 2006

Even former champions have no guarantee of an easy ride as Wimbledon enters its second week, as Lleyton Hewitt discovered when he confirmed a quarter-final place after nearly three hours on No. 1 Court.

The 2002 champion beat David Ferrer, the 23rd seed from Spain, 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 and showed sufficient evidence that he is sharpening his challenge to go as far as he did four years ago.

The problem for Hewitt was that the Spaniard simply did not relish the prospect of defeat and fought strongly through the fourth set to try to take the match to a fifth. That he failed was due to Hewitt's greater resilience and determination not to let the match become an even longer duel in the sun.

Hewitt showed a greater range of shot and coverage of the court at the start but needed four set points to overcome the increasingly determined Spaniard in the first set.

The first problems for Hewitt in the second set came in the eighth game when he had to save three break points. He was helped by the fact that the umpire overruled a fault to turn a Hewitt serve into an ace. When Ferrer lost his next serve to trail 5-4, he was cautioned for an audible obscenity during the changeover.

Hewitt moved on to a two-set lead, moving to set point with a drop shot from on top of the net and looked ready to run for home when the third set began.

But Ferrer had different ideas as his attack reaped more rewards at the start of the third set where he had a break in the second game, only to lose it immediately, Ferrer broke back to take the set in the tenth game when Hewitt double-faulted for the fourth time.

Now Ferrer could smell an upset and the fourth set swung his way immediately as he led 2-0. But Hewitt stayed in the frame with his increasingly solid ground strokes, conceding nothing on serve in four successive games, and pounced for a key break for 6-5 with a backhand pass.

In the next game the sixth-seeded Hewitt needed one match point, forcing a volley error from Ferrer to bring their first meeting to a close. Hewitt, without question, will now like where he stands in the draw.

Well- I broke the speed limit to get back from work today only to find David 2 sets down !!! :-(
Thankfully he played really well and battled hard to win the third. It was SO weird to see David on British TV on a showcourt in the second week of Wimbledon! I still think I might have dreamt it!
Anyway- wasn't our boys day today, but he did his best which is all we can ask and to lose in four to Hewitt on grass is no disgrace. I hope he enjoys spending his well deserved prize money....and I'm looking forward to watching him play again next year at Wimby and maybe progress even further!

A proud and happy David fan x

Here is a small article from Marca.com http://www.marca.com/edicion/marca/tenis/wimbledon/es/desarrollo/667326.html
Roughly translated (for any non-Spanish speakers here) - he says he will not go away from Wimbledon feeling sad because it has been a good tournament for him. He says he knows he started the match with "some doubts" but that he says he goes away feeling positive because he has proved that he can play on all surfaces, and that he will always try to learn more from year to year and to improve.

Well I have watched the match thou I had to turn the volume down because my boyfriend kept asking me with all the groaning if I really was watching the tennis :o !!! With the exception of the first 6 games our boy played good but I am glad I wasn't watching it live because I would have been screaming at him when he lost that 3-0 lead in the 4th. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if it had gone to a 5th set thou. I blame Peter Flemming for putting the kiss of death on him thou by saying Hewitt was going to out the way of the Soccerroos!!
He did look happy thou at the end & he can be proud of what he has done this week & as much as I hate to say it losing to Hewitt on grass is no disgrace. However I really really do not like Hewitt with his "come on" after every point, vamos sounds much more civilised & what was he doing pointing & screaming at his coach? I really hope Baggy can beat him. Lets just hope he can carry this form back onto clay & then onto the American hardcourts and prove to everyone else he is more than a clay show pony & people will stop saying David who. :D

I was at work but I managed to follow the match on the scoreboard. I'm playing back the tennis I recorded today on ESPN2 & NBC but I'm not hopeful there will be any of David's match. :(

I agree with Linda, when I saw he was 3-0 up in the 4th I really felt he had the match in his hands. I had no clue Lleyton had DFed to give him the 3rd set. :tape:

Who was the umpire? I can't imagine David cussing in English, which is usually the only language that gets the player in trouble.

The umpire was Andreas Egli I thought he was going to get a warning earlier when he bounced his racket on the sacred turf. he swore in Spannish & the warning was instant.

I know many. It's basically the first thing you learn when learning a new language. I suggest watching Gaudio play, write down what he is screaming and then look it up in a dictionary. ;)

Hope you are feeling better Isa. Enjoy your day off tomorrow.

I know many too  Though I'm not sure much of what Gaudio says would make it into a mainstream dictionary :o The Umpires actually have a list of the best-known swear-words in all the major languages - so Andreas Egli wouldn't have had to be a fluent Spanish speaker to penalise David.

As for Hewitt shouting and swearing at poor old Roger Rashid  Think that's just "his" way - same as Tommy Haas always used to swear at his coach. Loads of these tennis players are just spoilt little boys who can't take responsibilty for their own actions/mistakes and use their coaches as some kind of verbal "punchbag" to take out their agression beause they can't admit their own shortcomings  Luckily - our David isn't like that despite his occasional outbursts - and believe me, he would get a big slap from me if he spoke to Javi like that anyway!!!

He ussualy looks very p***** with himself. Save for the ocasional incident with an on court clock. :D

Most of what Gaudio says on court is in my dictionary. I do own a super dictionary, you would need two trucks to move the thing and I put my lifesavings down to pay for it. :o But it has almost every word you could imagine in it. It also tells me whether it's typical for a certain country. So when Gaudio screams ***** it says ********* in Argentina. :D

Even THOSE words  I admit I'm better at the Argentine colloquial swear words - don't know too many of the real Spanish ones - though I'm sure I could learn with the right teacher :) Just need a Spanish tennis coach to teach me them!!!

And - don't worry - I'm not a cruel Mum and I wouldn't really slap David - just send him to bed without his supper or something!!!

My dictionary is quite tame compared to yours Linda but then it is a paperback I can easily lift. ;)

Only time I asked a guy out it was for a Sadie Hawkins dance (where the girls are supposed to ask the guys) and that didn't work out so I went dateless. :tape:

:awww: Don't send David to bed without dinner. There's not an ounce of fat on him. Instead take away his reading material.

:awww: OK - he can have dinner - might even let him watch the football on TV as I'm a nice person really. As for this Sadie Hawkins thing - think I would have stayed at home - I'm not shy at all - but I just couldn't ask a guy out :o Even the thought scares me!

I've always been shy. :o That was the one and only Sadie Hawkins dance I ever went to - ended up spending most of the night in the restroom. :o :o I usually only talk to guys who talk to me first so I guess it's no surprise I can count the number of dates I've had on both hands. :tape: :o :help:

Do you have a brother Isa? Both myself & my best friend have ended up with our brother's best mates!! Alcohol also helps, I think vodka was involved when I hooked up with my fella but that was years ago  But like you I have never asked a guy out unlike a friend of mine who did just that & ended up getting married 3 months later & they are still together 12 years & 3 kids later.

Apparently Miss Hawkins was a bold teenage girl who asked out a boy eons ago when that sort of thing was unheard of  At my high school they always had the dance right around Valentine's Day which I thought was :cuckoo: as there are no ties between her & that holiday.

Ok - thanks for telling me! What a brave lady she was - wonder what happened to her? I guess perhaps they have the dance around Valentine's Day because it saves the school organising two dances - so they get them over with at the same time! I went to an all girls' school - VERY strict private school - no boys allowed  so we didn't have these problems. Did mean it wasn't so easy to meet boys when I was 14 or 15, but in a variation of Ali's brother theme - I don't have a brother myself, but my best friend from schooldays had an elder brother who went to the local all boys' school, and so I was always round at her house because he always had his mates round :haha: My first boyfriend was her brother's best mate. Ah well - guess I should go and do a few things in the house now it's got cool enough to do them - speak to you tomorrow I'm sure. Take care :wavey:

I do have a brother, he's 2 years younger and lives in Wisconsin with his wife. I don't get on with them so I don't see myself ever liking any of his friends.

I don't get to drink much - here in America you have to drive everywhere and DUI is a crime.

One of my co-workers asked out the man that is now her 3rd husband.

Drink driving is a crime here too but I had a taxi ie my dad when I was younger. I thought my boyfriend was a mamma's boy & really didn't like him at all when we were younger then I went to uni as they say the rest is history. I still think he's a mamma's boy but that's because he is 1/2 Italian.
