My answer was 50-50.
Can Dinara outlast Marat in OZ Open?Vass 01-18-2004, 02:16 PM My answer was 50-50. Shy 01-18-2004, 03:38 PM 50-50 Dinara is a darkhorse, and so is Marat. star 01-18-2004, 06:05 PM I have more faith in Marat than in Dinara. Dinara's mom is kinda hard on her. Shy 01-18-2004, 06:11 PM She has a new coach, and she is talented, maybe a little underated. star 01-18-2004, 06:13 PM I think Dinara is talented. I didn't know about the new coach. That's positive. allusion 01-18-2004, 11:09 PM Well, I wish the best for the both of them. But I hope and I think (but I hope more) Marat will go longer than her. Safina_22 01-19-2004, 02:23 AM Well, we are talking about the safin family here... So...everything is possible!!!!! but i think Marat has more chances...at least i hope he does! GOOOOOO MARATIK!!!!!!! trixy 01-19-2004, 02:40 AM Well i've fallen in love with Dinara after sydney last week, so i would love to see her do well but yeh you have to think that Marat has a better chance of doing well because he seems to be on a mission and is playing some good tennis. Leo 01-19-2004, 06:37 AM I like Dinara but I give Marat the definite edge. I hope and expect to see him around in week #2. maratski 01-19-2004, 10:47 AM Marat probably, but her draw isn't too hard either. At least when Clijsters doesn't go through. azinna 01-19-2004, 11:01 AM after seeing marat play his first round with real conviction (i know, i cheated), i'd say it's unlikely. CooCooCachoo 01-19-2004, 11:13 AM Honestly? Fat chance.. Experimentee 01-19-2004, 12:14 PM No way. Marat can beat anyone in the whole AO mens draw, the same cannot be said for Dinara in the women's draw. And Marat seems to be playing well too, I saw him today and he played great, apart from some minor concetration lapses. Lucie 01-19-2004, 12:39 PM i would say definitely marat, but you never know with this family, but his draw is the better one KCVH 01-19-2004, 06:43 PM Provided Marat is fully fit. Just the edge on Marat. Though, Dinara has become among the best 30 players on the Wtatour. Wish them both a very good Aus-Open. Ma. Estefania 01-19-2004, 10:48 PM Unlikely, but possible.... MisterQ 01-21-2004, 11:42 PM Dinara is one game away from the third round. 7-5, 5-2 against 27th seed Amanda Coetzer. MisterQ 01-21-2004, 11:50 PM D. Safina def. A. Coetzer 7-5 6-3. excellent victory for her! trixy 01-22-2004, 12:39 AM YAY! GO DINARA. Have a brother and sister ever both won the singles title at a grand slam? I'd say Dinara and Marat are the best chance of that happening. Oh wait there's always Lleyton and Jaslyn  Leo 01-22-2004, 12:41 AM Congrats Dinara. I would love if she took out Clijsters in the next round; it is a possibility considering Kimmy's potential injury. allusion 01-22-2004, 12:43 AM I'm happy for Dinara's win :) Good luck to her in the next round! JeLuliA88 01-22-2004, 12:53 AM Dinara is talented but Marat is in playing pretty solid... so it's unlikely that safina is going to do better than her brother. Leo 01-22-2004, 02:12 AM Very unlikely as Clijsters seems to be doing fine, physically. She's killing Camerin 6-0, 1-0. :o CooCooCachoo 01-22-2004, 05:40 AM We shouldn't make too big a deal out of Dinara beating Amanda Coetzer. I think that Coetzer, by the time we reach Wimbledon or the US Open, will no longer be seeded and will fall down the rankings big time. She hasn't been worth a thing the last months and I don't see her making any progress. A lot of those young players are capable of beating here, and therefore her place in the top 50 is most definitely at stake. cheliste 01-22-2004, 06:38 AM I like Dinara but I think it's the big bro who will go deeper. Marat is playing well, and hopefully he'll continue doing so or even improve as Oz progresses. Lynne 01-22-2004, 08:32 AM I don't think Dinara will outlast Marat at AO. Her next opponent is Kim Clijsters. Kim's played a brilliant second round match and won it 6-0, 6-0. Dinara might put up a good fight but I don't she'll defeat Kim. Marat's been playing pretty good.. CooCooCachoo 01-22-2004, 09:19 AM Kim will win in two sets, I think. Not a problem there :) maratgirl 01-22-2004, 11:16 AM I think that dinara is not going to win from Kim and Marat has a really good chance to win against Tod Martin Ma. Estefania 01-22-2004, 03:46 PM I would love if she took out Clijsters in the next round. Yeah, I'd love that too. ;) MisterQ 01-24-2004, 03:22 AM Well, Marat squeaked through against Todd, but Dinara was helpless against Kim. So I guess we have our answer. Tennis Fool 01-24-2004, 12:29 PM Not when she has no serve. star 01-24-2004, 02:32 PM I thought this was fairly easy to answer. :) It made me smile when I was listening to the audio and could hear Dinara yelling at herself. I could almost see the way she looked. Leo 01-24-2004, 08:30 PM Not when she has no serve. Hopefulyl she can improve that over the years. She is 6'1'' and should take advantage of her height. It'd be disappointing if she became like Elena Dementieva: tall with an inexplicably horrible serve. star 01-25-2004, 05:12 PM  I don't know why that made me laugh so much, but it did!! | |
