NRL ROUND 14

Some weird and warped prices around as a result of players missing for origin duties ..

* The words "New Zealand Warriors" and "get on" generally end in tears, but it's surely the catchcry this weekend. The Roosters lineup is virtually unrecognisable ..

ROOSTERS: Shaun Foley, Vince Mellars, Iosia Soliola, Ryan Cross,
Lelea Paea, Josh Lewis, Jamie Soward, Adrian Morley, Heath
L'Estrange, David Shillington, Anthony Tupou, Nigel Plum, Craig
Fitzgibbon (c). Interchange: John Doyle, Shane Shackleton, Mickey
Paea, Charles Tonga.

Despite this, the above team is a $1.80 favourite to beat the Warriors who're untouched by Origin.

* I hate the thought of my beloved Broncos becoming the first to fall to Souths this season, but the Rabbitohs look a big chance to break their duck against a virtual reserve grade side. That said, Brisbane will still boast a formidable forward pack with the likes of Shane Webcke, Dane Carlaw and Brad Thorn.

* The Wests Tigers must shape as a big chance to upset Manly at Brookvale on Friday night given they'll be unaffected by rep duties (?) while the Eagles miss Ben Kennedy, Brent Kite, Steve Menzies and Steve Bell (?).

I have to disagree with you about the Tigers mate.

Manly played extremely well in the first game this season without their Origin stars annihilating the Storm 34-12 at Brookie. They were also without Kennedy who had a calf injury, but this time around he is back in the lineup which is a massive boost for the Sea Eagles.

The Tigers will be without Hodgson and IMO that is a huge loss for them. Both times he hasn't played this season Wests have been smashed by fairly weak opposition (Eels 28-16 and Warriors 34-4).

Granted the Tigers beat Manly last time they met in round nine, but in that game Kennedy only played the first 10 minutes before leaving with a calf injury and in the end the Sea Eagles only went down 24-18 in a great game of footy.

Another advantage for Manly could be the weather. If the forecast holds true expect it to be wet and that does not help the Tigers attacking style at all especially after watching them spill the ball all over the shop last Sunday against the Cowboys.

Also, I'd wait and see what comes of the Wiki case before betting on the Warriors. If he is suspended they will be without both of their starting props and although the Roosters have a very inexperienced back line named their forward pack still looks quite strong.

Cheers,

Sparks

good work spotting the warriors/roosters matchup

To be honest I would more than happy to put money against the roosters when Finch and Anasta are playing, since I think they are over rated and I know they wouldnt bring much when they are playing for the Roosters. But to have unknown players can be dangerous against a warriors outfit who are known for not being able to control their game. So would depend on which team turned up.

If the warriors team that have a high completion rate like they did against the tigers a few weeks back, the roosters will get slaughtered. However if the warriors team that played against the bulldogs the week earlier (where they couldnt hold on to the ball or have a proper kicking game) who knows wot will happen...

Some bookmakers actually have warriors as slight favourites. 1.88 for warriors on sportsbook

As for the bunnies 2.08 against brisbane doesnt seem value to me, for a team that hasnt won a game yet..

Another interesting market: Which round the rabbits will score their first win in 2006.

Brisbane (Round 14) 2.08
NZ Warriors (Round 16) 5.25
Parramatta (Round 15) 5.25
No Victory in 2006 6.50
and the list goes on to round 26...

man you are a homer :p conveniently left out the fact that the Storm were missing their backline + smith due to origin when they got rolled that weekend :p

but agree with you on the weather, if it rains, doesn't suit the tiges at all

;)

Yep the Storm were missing a few key players, but the point I was trying to get across was that Manly actually played well without their recognised stars in the lineup for the first time in a long time.

Last year any time BK wasn't in the lineup they got smashed, but it seems this year they may have a little bit more resolve.

Personally I think they are a pretty good bet tomorrow night and if it rains it will make me even more confident.

Be careful how much you pile on the Warriors the replacements are all very talented kids and I'm actually looking forward to seeing the Lewis/Soward halves combo they certainly will provide a far better kicking game than Anasta/Finch combo. And if it is wet field position will decide this game which will be close.

Personally, nothing is exciting me too much this weekend in NRL .. although I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Sharks, because coming off a bye against a Cowboys side that's understrength, out of touch and without it's coach, they're pretty good value at $2.05 ..

Given that there's rain around in Sydney, a couple of unders plays might present themselves too.

All hail Brett Stewart ;)

Good spot on the Sharks Flamb. After seeing some of NQ's recent efforts they would be hard to take right now and when you add in the fact that they have a fair few players missing through Origin and injury the Sharkies look a decent bet.

A couple of games for the weekend, getting in early on the Warriors b4 it gets shorter for 2morro,also Sharks look the goods with Lance Thompson and another forward comin in!!

50 units on Cronulla Sharks 2.05 over North Queensland Cowboys- Sharks win this one easy!!!

40 units on New Zealand Warriors 1.80 over Sydney Roosters - Warriors will be to strong with Wiki leading the way!!!

Good luck - Other leans on Bulldogs -7.5/Storms ML/Broncos ML!!!!Looking at the Doggies big 2morro!!!
