Nalbandian in 4. I do think he is the better player than Davydenko, and beat him easily in the Masters Cup last year and at Estoril

It's so difficult to predict. David hasn't been playing so well but he is likely to raise his game when needed. All I can predict is a lot of breaks !!

Kolya in 4

ufokart
06-04-2006, 09:25 PM
I really don't know what to predict.

Koyla has been some sort of silent competitor in this tournament, nobody talks about him, but he is playing very well (his matchs against Moya and Gaudio were great). But if Nalby is on he can beat him in 3 or 4 sets.

eeemmm.........Nalby in 4.

Nalbandian!!!

Nalbandian, with his talent- should win in four or so.

David, with his utter weak mentality, could lose in four of five.

I will vote for talent- Nalby in four. (crosses fingers)

Nalbandian on clay is not so good as many people think and Kolya is playing his best right now

I would say Nalbandian in 4 maybe. Davydenko is having some physical problems and I don't think he would be a 100%.

I think this one could go the distance. I give a slight edge to Nalby, but you never know with him.

I've never seen Davydenko be so aggressive with his groundstrokes as he has been this tournament. Nalbandian can of course turn it up, but clay is not his best surface even if he is good on the stuff.

I think Kolya will win win in 4, he has been playing so well its unbelievable. His hitting winners from all over  and his serve has really improved. Nalby IMO hasnt been impressive at all so far, but its Nalby he might really turn it up in the next round

People look at the Estoril match, but davyD wasnt well.

Hard to call because I haven't seen Davydenko play all tournament so far so I have nothing to compare in terms of form.

Nalbandian has been good enough without ever looking ominous so far.

Gotta give the edge to David - Davydenko got rid of Gaudio though so he could make a good match of it. Can't wait to see it actually.

Yup, he would seem like the steadier one but I think Nikolay might have more fight in him.

The battle of the super baseliners. Should be entertaining at least.

I would really really like it to be Kolya....and I would really really like it to be in 3 :p BUT

IF Kolya wins (and for some weird reason I have serious doubts about him beating Nalby - Kolya, you can prove me wrong anytime darling  ), it will be in 4 because he will not last for 5 physically

Davydenko has impressed me with his play this week more so than Nalbandian. He just has to make sure not to lose the battle for positioning right away in this match. Perhaps the fact that it's best of 5 will help him, unlike their last two meetings won comfortably by David in 2.

I just hope we get to see it! Come on, ESPN.

Davydenko in 4 or 5 - it will be very close with loads of breaks of serve I think.

DrJules

It will be an unusual clay court match. Both players will try to take the ball early playing mostly near to the baseline, move forward and dominate the opponent.

Unless the pressure of the situations gets to Nalbandian, I should win this match. However, Nalbandian is notorious for struggling under pressure and failing to perform at the later stages of grand slams; he has exited 5 times in quarter finals.

An interesting note- today during Roland Garros radio Sandra Harwitt and one of the fellows - may have been Andrew -were talking about the most talented male player to not have a GS- and Nalby topped the list (Davydenko was also mentioned). The fellow said that he felt that David would win one before his career ended. They then went into a hypothetical question on what would become first - David winning a GS or becoming a pleasant person. The fellow said he was unsure if Nalbandian could ever be pleasant and just ripped into David saying how rude he was and hard it was to get any anwsers from him. He then detailed how he recently had to interview David for Fox Sports and from the sounds of it, Nalby was uncooperative to say the least. It seems like David's tradition of peeving off journalists is alive and well. Though I must say this guy seemed rather whiney.

It was rather interesting.

I really have no idea. I love them both, and will be happy with either outcome. If pressed, I'd say I'm rooting for nalbandian because I want to see federer take on nalbandian again.

I bet Nalby's just trying to keep his foe-coose out there; I'm sure journalists can throw a wrench into one's confidence if you let it, and Nalby must be sick of the "underachiever" questions he's always faced with. he reminds me a little of venus with the whole testy, tight-lipped thing. I won't knock either of them; you do what you must to keep yourself together.

A lot of players are irritated by journalist. Possibly because of things they write about them.

In England each year Tim Henman is built up by journalist and when he loses the abuse starts from them.
