Saulnier is a 27 year old Frenchman who has played most of his career on the challenger circuit. He had a nice run in Tokyo last year where he lost to Schuettler in the semis. That's his best result. I don't know his playing style, but he has a better winning ratio on fast surfaces.

He beat Jiri Novak, Ljubicic, Santoro and Mark on hard last year and he housed Greg Rusedski and Robby Ginepri in Adelaide to get to the quarters, Ive seen him play one or twice but he didnt exactly dazzle me but he's a good shotmaker, has the ability to get the ball in deep, a good forhand and a mediocre serve....

World No.5 Guillermo Coria became the highest-ranked player to fall in the first round of the men's tournament.

Coria lost 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, 6-4 to big-serving Frenchman Cyril Saulnier on a second bad day for the top-ranked men but refused to blame an abdominal injury that has sent him home to Argentina.

The fifth seed was joined on the losers' list by Martin Verkerk, Felix Mantilla, Jonas Bjorkman, Feliciano Lopez and Max Miryni, but world No.2 Roger Federer cruised past American Alex Bogomolov jnr in straight sets, and co-seeds David Nalbandian, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Wayne Ferreira also advanced.

Having lost the first set to Saulnier in a tie-breaker, Coria dropped the second set 2-6 and lost the first game of the third as he struggled to cope with the injury and his opponent's serve.

It's so sad. :sad:

I watched the complete match, and it was sad to see him out there honestly, he had very few "enlightening" moments in which he could show all his magic on court. :sad:

He looked uncomfortable all the time, Saulnier didn't let him play his game, and that's what kept Guille frustrated and cursing during almost all the last 2 sets, he seemed so upset....I was it too. :(

cant say i didnt see this coming.....im so proud that guille stuck it out like a man and didnt retire after the tb!
did anyone else think that guille has lost ALOT of weight?
you could definitely tell he was in so much pain, i felt so sorry for the guy.

yes, because I a great fan of him, but sometimes, I go to nadal's forum, but I only read the messages, I don't send something (I keep all the fotos for me !)

I saw Coria on Monday practising and i was lucky to get a photo with him... he was really nice and posed for a couple of ppl.

well...i saw the complete match, and i was so sad :sad: he looks very umconfortable, and he couldn't play his magic game...i just hope that guille come back in his best form and we can get well soon of his abdominal

i read a short interview of his in todays newspaper and he stated that this game was "the worst match of his career" and that he wasnt relaxed enough to find his game and that the fact that he had only played one game in the year had stolen his confidence and that he blames himself for everything. :sad:

But Im sure he'll bounce back. He'll live to play wonderfully another day.
