I hope Marcos is well and will be able to play. I got a shock today. Tommy Haas who was also sick in Hamburg had blood tests done and it was said the results weren't good. That is all I know right now about him. I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds because blood tests can show so many different kind of illnesses--some bad and others that can be taken care of easily.

1st round
Marcos vs Albert Portas

The draw is tolerable for Marcos. It could be better or it could be worse. Clay is Albert Portas favorite surface and he won last month Monfils and Berdych among others.

Portas was playing at home then. And it's three sets now he 's not young anymore, Marcos should win this easily.I think the draw is not bad at all this time. It's all up to him really!!!
Anyway good luck and go Marcos!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope Marcos is prepared to run forward a lot as the big Portas is a huge fan of the drop shot and hits them well and hope he doesn't spray that many forehands like he did against the Duck, as there is a potential weakness that can be exploited on clay.

Marcos adapts quite easily when he is in good form and i think
this time he 'll find his form during the match. It's like home for him in Paris and last year he played quite well here even though he lost!!!

Well done Marcos! :) I hope this win will boost him with confident for the upcoming Stepanek guy. I know Marcos may face Stepanek only in the 3rd round but I bet he is already thinking Stepanek. I think he is a very dangerous player for Marcos. Passing by him, Marcos will face either Roddick or O.Rochus and I don’t see any problem with that. Well, let’s wait and see.

Seen an interview of Marcos, on the RG site, French version (haven't checked if it is also available on the English version), in the video highlights. He spoke about his sickness in Rome and Hamburg, saying that now, everything was back to order, physically and mentally. He says that clay isn't his most suited surface but it isn't as difficult as some would think it is. He just needs to be very fit, and he thinks that the hard work with his team will be rewarded on that regard. :)

Good luck against Benneteau. :bounce:

He gave no precision about that. But from what I saw during his match vs Stepanek in Hamburg, just before he retired, he seemed to be suffering a virus that caused him tough breathing pbs, heavy coughs, and stuff like that. Sounded like some kind of bronchitis for me.

There's an interview of Patrick Mouratoglou, on the RG site, French version. Sorry, I don't have enough time to translate it entirely. But here it is.

Patrick mostly speaks about the experience of the AO for Marcos, and all the consequences it has had in the aftermath. The solicitations, even political, the reactions of the crowd, the media and so on. He explains that Marcos has been tired because of all those solicitations and it explains his average results after the AO. I think that the most important part of this interview is the last paragraph. Here's the whole translation of it:

How do you see this RG for him?

The idea of playing this RG really got him tense. First, because he had never played here. Yet I disagree with all those who say that clay isn't a suited surface for him. He's got the means to do very well there. Anyway, he does want to do very well in Paris, from the bottom of his heart, because of the Academy, the friends, the family, and it makes him feel like shining through so that they are all proud of him. He's gonna be more and more dangerous, round after round. His match against Benneteau is a trap match, because, on the paper, it looks like a good draw. Anyway, better watch him out if he gets through 1 or 2 more rounds. When Marcos is on the way, he's very dangerous...

I think Marcos didn't play badly today.Just the balls and the lines didn't want him to win today. And Benneteau was extremely lucky today.
I should also mention a few bad calls that for some reason he never
questioned.I 'm not suggesting he lost because of that but i think he should start questioning calls sometimes. He looked too calm today.Maybe
he should be a bit more aggresive.Anyway he doesn't like clay and the wet
one today didn't help much.Have a good rest Marcos and better luck
in the grass season!!!

This is bad. Marcos did not make it again. I think Marcos played an average match. His opponent was really good but at this tennis level Marcos has to be better to go on. Marcos has to be more passionate, more aggressive and more focused on his game.

It’s a pity to watch RG without Marcos but … anyway good luck to Marcos for the grass season.

I watched the 5th set on Eurosport and all I can say is 'bad luck'. It was anyone's game and Beneteau had the support of the crowd and played really well tactically. It was nice to see Marcos healthy again though and to me seems to have adapted his game for clay well. But Marcos needs to score some big points sooner rather than later (preferably sooner than the next Aussie Open!! I don't even want to think of Marcos loosing in the 1st round there :( )

I've never seen Marcos play on grass. Does he like playing on grass? What r ur thoughts guys?

I don't know how Marcos feels about playing on grass, but with the style of tennis he plays it should be well suited for grass. I personally can't wait for this summer because I hope he will come to the U.S. for the hard court Tournaments leading up to the U.S. Open :) I haven't looked to see if he has scheduled any of those tournaments or not  But, of course, unless he is sick or injuried I'm sure he will
at least be at the U.S. Open :)
