This draw is an absolute joke, it can't be a coincidence - and no, I don't mean it's rigged, but fate has definitely done its handiwork. Not only does Federer have his three nemeses in his quarter, but Roddick has the two third-round seeds who are least likely to do anything, El Aynaoui is a physical doubt and Schalken's AO record is terrible. I can just see it now, awaiting those 4th round matches in the hope of a Henman-Federer QF and getting a Nalbandian-Hewitt one instead...

TheHawk
01-15-2004, 11:25 PM
Dent could trouble Roddick IMHO.

Deboogle!.
01-15-2004, 11:26 PM
Dent could DEFINITELY.... and supposedly he has Gonzalez in the first round, once again he gets one of the top unseeded players in the first round. So come on let's not have any of the draw is rigged bullshit.

Sjengster
01-15-2004, 11:28 PM
Now now, I never said the draw was rigged in any way, except by celestial powers. What, so it's another Dent-Gonzalez match-up?

TheHawk
01-15-2004, 11:29 PM
Is the draw to be found anywhere? It's getting late here ...

Deboogle!.
01-15-2004, 11:29 PM
no, Andy/Gonzalez 1st round, that's what Wyver said anyway. Dunno who Dent has.

I know you didn't Sjengster... just trying to be pre-emptive :)

Roddick and Fed sure have a lots of work ahead of them

It was a 1/64 chance to get all those guys together in the bottom quarter. And to think we can't even blame any American tennis authorities this time!

Deboogle!.
01-15-2004, 11:32 PM
lol jtipson....nope you can't!!

Sjengster
01-15-2004, 11:33 PM
Ah... well, it's certainly a fascinating first round, although Gonzalez hasn't been setting the world alight with his tennis for about six months now. Apart from anything else, it'll be interesting to see whether they play anything else but tiebreaks since that's all it's been so far... the results were just what you'd expect, Roddick winning on clay and Gonzalez on hard.

TheHawk
01-15-2004, 11:33 PM
bunk18bsb, can you confirm that Roddick-Fernando will face in R1?

Deboogle!.
01-15-2004, 11:35 PM
no TheHawk I cannot. Just reading what another member said up in GM in the Kooyong thread. I assume he watched it on television. I cannot confirm it 100% though.

I don't suppose Federer has Safin in the first round, by any chance? Nah, that would be too improbable... Henman'll get him instead.

jtipson
01-15-2004, 11:36 PM
Nah, Sjengster, Safin would be too easy. It'll be Ivan Ljubicic.

Deboogle!.
01-15-2004, 11:37 PM
Sjengester, I read Safin v. Vahaly somewhere.... forget where and if that's 1st round.

Sjengster
01-15-2004, 11:41 PM
Ha ha, didn't tangerine quip a few weeks back that Safin'll have trouble beating Brian Vahaly when he comes back to tennis, let alone Roddick? Well now we'll find out... I have to say that tangy certainly went off on a tangent with that prediction given Safin's impressive form in Perth.

Sorry, scrub that - Federer isn't the unluckiest person in the draw. That honour goes to the unluckiest Aussie wildcard in the entire world, Toddy Larkham. Anyone remember his match against Hewitt last year where he got absolutely thrashed? McEnroe might be getting another threat from Larkham's brother if he commentates on that first-round match...

Yeah, Larkham is pretty unlucky to get Agassi, w00t.
As is the WC Australian entry (in the women's), who got just this little known Belgian player called Justine Henin-Hardenne. (But no more speak of women's tennis!) :)
