Well, let me clue you in, Nimi--this has been the most boring match of the tournament ;)

Seriously, though, serve/volley is okay but Pete Sampras bores me to death. He's so predictable

Thank God Wayne Arthurs took care of him today.

I began loving serve and volleying alot during the last year of Pat's tennis career.:(

It's too bad, because the only true serve and volleyers left are Sampras and Henman.:rolleyes:lol

I like serve/volley tennis as well, I prefer sort points rather than say a clay court style rally with about 20 plus shots, but that's just personal preference, most people probably do prefer the longer rallies.
The reason why I like the short points and big servers, is it makes your serve extremely important and that's how it should be, if you lose your serve a few times in a set, you don't really deserve to win the set.

nope. there are serve and volleyers and then there are serve and net-rushers. serve-and-volleyers are less reliant on the big serve (altho' they can have big serves), but moreso on the one-two combo with excellent placement.

Tim Henman, Wayne Arthurs, and Richard Krajicek are among the purest serve and volleyers on the tour now by my definition.

then there are serve and net-rushers. these players rely exclusively on the big serve and then rush into net to block off the returning shot. Sampras, Dent, Rusedski and Rafter are examples of serve and net-rushers.

i don't think these groups are the same altho' i concede a resemblance.

by the way i'm developing this point for an article i'm writing so all comments are welcome. thanks Niminator for the inspiration. ;)

i do watch ATP. never said that Rafter was exclusively serve-reliant but that he serves and rushes the net.
