My Spanish is not that good, but it seems like Galo Blanco has announced his retirement.

http://www.terra.es/deportes/articulo/html/dpo206284.htm

He did as well as he could with his game and he was discovered by Corretja's father and lived with the family once he moved from his home town Oviedo to Barcelona.

All the best in retirement and hopefully for him Real Oviedo can make it back to the top division.

:worship: Galo Blanco. Enjoy your time as retired. Still to be remembered eg. as a person defeating Sampras :)

And I saw him defeating Nadal on clay... but it was a practise match :p

He said, "I got two games in the last two sets against a guy with 16 double faults. It MUST be time to retire!" just kidding. that is one hot guy we'll be missing, with one of the best names on tour!!!

:bigcry:
This one is specially awful since she's a Junior GS champion who retires due to constant injuries :bigcry:

Please, any relevant history of Galo Blanco? He reached quaterfinals in Roland Garros 1997 and 4th round in Wimbledon and only reached ranking 40th?

Now hes coaching Milos Raonic.

I watched Galo losing to Guga in 2001 Acapulco.

What about El Caballo Blanco, a true Oviedo legend. He has been with Tennis Canada for some time.

Blanco would have stopped to Bruguera anyways.

It's not like he has done anything in the last several years. He will be missed I guess

Read the whole thread Everko and the date of the OP.

Blanco doing well for himself, not so good for Oviedo.

I only saw Blanco at the end of his career against Henman at RG, twice actually, and all I can remember of him is that his service grunt sounded like a sneeze and he looked a bit like Dick Miller from the Gremlin movies. Checked up on some of his results, who would have thought he'd lose to Rafter in straight sets at RG and then upset him in five in the first round of the US Open some years later.

Coaching Milos Raonic could be his greatest tennis achievement, if it isn't already. I agree with Sampras, Milos has the game and temperment to be a great player.
