Also Made the finals in the last 12 tournaments he played! Is this a record? I'm just curious to find out if any other player has made it to 12 straight finals.

He has also won the last 6 AMS/GS tournaments he's played in (Wimbledon '05, Cincinnati '05, US Open '05, Australian Open '06, Indian Wells '06, Miami '06).

Question is, will he make it 52 weeks of just finals by keeping the streak through RG?

The Masters Cup should count. That breaks this streak.

I'd be interested to know the record for most consecutive finals.

Lendl made 18 finals in a row in the early 80s, I'm not sure who snapped that streak.

Nobody, it's still running.

It was Wilander in the 4th round of RG when Lendl was defending champion, 4-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

That streak is alive (Edit: meaning, the RECORD is still alive :) ). I read on the internet today that Roge has again matched John MacEnroe's 12 straight finals in a row
Lendl and someone else (I forget now, Borg maybe?) hold the record for most finals in a row

Not surprised.

He was the dominant player of the 1980's out performing his major rival John McEnroe in nearly every respect.

I don't think it matters as much how many finals in a row someone wins as much as which finals he wins overall.

great record
seeing the ease with which he has progressed on clay
make him a real contender for RG
18 finals for Lendl still standing

HUGE difference between Lendl's run and Federer's. Out of the 12 finals, there have been 3 slams, 1 TMC, and 4 TMS events. Very few smaller tournaments in there. For a lot of the WCT events, you only had to win a couple of matches and you were in the final.

In addition, he has made it to the QF's in 24 straight events, 14 straight SF's, and 12 finals. 29 straight in TMS events which is astonishing, and now 17 in a row overall.

Forgot to mention, a tremendous run by Lendl and which was followed by a great run from 1985-1987. The guy just won and won and won.

According to RF.com, there's another player on the record list: Guillermo Vilas with 13 straight finals appearances in 1977.

Something for Roger to aim for with Rome and Hamburg. :)

Yes I thought about that, but I don't consider it as an AMS. But regardless of that, this streak exists weather we count the MC or not and I think it pretty impressive.

Another impressive streak is his US run. Roger hasn't lost a match in the US since Cincinnati 2004. Since then he has won : US Open '04, Masters Cup '04 (undefeated), Indian Wells '05, Miami '05, Cicinnati '05, US Open '05, Indian Wells '06, Miami '06.
How many matches is that ?

does that make a "wins in a row" record? 8 tournaments?

does that make a "wins in a row" record? 8 tournaments? One of the longest. Vilas had a longer winning streak in 1977.

I haven't found an authoritative list of winning streaks. Perhaps someone can give a link?

Lendl - 18 in 1981-82

Vilas - 13 in 1977 (In 1977, He won 16 titles including 2 Clay Slams - Roland Garros and US Open, also Australian Open runner-up in January)

Strange, you would think that a streak of winning tournaments would be more widely known than the streak of finaling at tournaments.

US Open '04 = 7
Masters Cup '04 = 5? ( I think)
Indian Wells '05 = 6
Miami '05 = 6
Cicinnati '05 = 6
US Open '05 = 7
Indian Wells '06 = 6
Miami '06 = 6

49 match win streak in the U.S. Amazing.

I did too. In fact, I think losing to marcos at the AO really set in the lack of belief in himself, and then its a vicious cycle
