Haas fabolous 04-22-2006, 11:11 AM interesting to see how some people consider blake and nadal as top 10 favourites. blake's grass record over the last four years is 4-8, his best result in wimbledon is a second round. and i think you all remember the davis cup losses against gonzalez and capdeville (both famous grass specialists) a few weeks ago. for nadal, it will be interesting to see his performance in wimbledon, but he will not reach the final ever. i prefer picking gaudio and hernandez instead. MissFairy 04-22-2006, 11:14 AM Will Nadal ever be perceived as a threat at Wimbledon? He only made the second round last year didn't he? Who beat him and were they a nobody? Nadal lost to Gilles Mullers 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-4 last year. I was there, Muller played a good match, and Nadal got annoyed very easily. Nadal also lost at the first hurdle last year at Halle to Waske, so his record doesn't give great confidence about a run at Wimbledon. betterthanhenman 04-22-2006, 11:15 AM 1. Federer 2. Federer 3. Don't forget that 3 years on grass for Federer is just 6 tournaments (including 3 optionals). How many clay tournies will Nadal play in 3 years ? This kind of streak is counted in number of matches, not years. Jimnik 04-22-2006, 11:45 PM I think Federer would still have a 3 year winning streak, even if he had 5 or 6 grass tournaments to play every year. But it will end this year ;) 1. Roddick 2. Federer 3. I guess I'm not as confident that Gasquet, Blake, and Safin will do very well here this year... but I don't mind being proven wrong, I just think someone like Grosjean, Ferrer, and perhaps Davydenko will do better at Wimbledon this year... Jaap 04-23-2006, 09:00 AM Obviously Federer will win barring any injuries. I think Wimbledon is playing less and less like a grass court these days so the hard court players - Ljubicic, Blake, Gonzalez, Baghtatdis, Berdych, Safin and Haas may be threats as the ball sits up more. I think Nadal will do a bit better but will get knocked out in the 4th round or quarters. Then you have the proven grass court performers - Roddick, Hewitt and Nalbandian who all have good records at Wimbledon. Henman or Agassi may have one final swansong although I doubt it. Then you have the youngsters - Murray, Gasquet and Monfils...will it be the grand slam breakthrough for these? What of the big serving freaks? Karlovic, Tursunov, Rusedski, Arthurs, Guccione. Maybe one of these will get a bit of luck and make their way through the draw? | |
