4 doublefaults to lose his serve to love when serving for set at 5-4

This is just incredible...when he has gotten his 2nd serve in, he has won almost all of the points. It's amazing that he can win so many games serving like that.

Bascially for him, his return game is like everyone else's serve game. Returning serve gives him the best chance to actually win games. This is crazy.

he still managed to break back straight away and now has a chance to serve for the set again

He should serve underarm then, that way at least he'll have the ball in play with a chance to win the point, because right now... :tape:

Even if everything is wrong, can't you just spin the thing in at say 55 mph? That gives you a better chance than hitting 14 DF's. Who does that??!! Futures players and juniors don't even do that. Some hack out on the public courts can do better than that?

Hes approaching bitch standards such as dementiava :D I dont know how it has got so bad though! His serve was ok, a few years ago.

I agree totally. He really is the men’s version of Dementiava (although she is improving). The rest of his game has to bolster up his totally craptacular serve game.
I am just wondering though what the heck is going on with Guille’s serving. It was not like this before his surgeries. But I really think that this whole serve thing is more psychological as opposed to physical. He should see a sports psychologist and/or maybe go under some hypnosis. There definitely seems to be a mental block there. Because frankly stuff like today with the double faults when serving out a set are painful to watch.

I agree - he should atleast spin it in considering this is clay court and smacking a winner off a weaker serve is relatively hard. I find his tactical game

This is insane. 14 DFs in a set make...3,5 games for Kiefer. If he served underarm it would be 6:3 instead of 6:7

ROFL, this match is so fucked up. Kiwi in the TB with a drop return at 5:5 in TB due to Corias slow 2nd serve.

Didn't he have a shoulder injury? Those are the hardest to treat. Most probably he doesn't practice serving enough because there's only so many serves left in the crippled shoulder.

As Clara Bow mentioned, it has little to do with the shoulder, and everything to do with the head.

Physical problems and lack of practice always translate into the head and show up at the most important moments.

On this level nobody is that weak mentally. Like NYCtennis fan said, you don't see this happening even at at junior/futures tournaments.

What do you all think? Can Coria serve in practice?I saw him in Monte-Carlo, he serves much better in training. Not good, but much, much better.
He was also serving almost decently in his doubles match. So, it's clearly mental.

Right now, he does practice his serve a lot. In Monte Carlo, right after a match, he went with Higueras to a training court to practice his serve again.
But it's true he didn't practice his second serve a lot during a while (Perlas said it himself in an interview for "Tennis" in September: "In the technical aspect, his first serve is stable and it can improve even more. We don't want to work on the second service yet, but it's because I don't want to. He would do it. It's to avoid confusion between the two techniques and to avoid pushing the operated shoulder") and that probably explains for a part why he completely lost the confidence in his second serve. That's why a lot of Coria fans think that Perlas is co-responsible for that desaster too. But only "co-responsible", of course. It's also a mental thing, it has to do with his shoulder surgery too, etc.

Well, I'm not his personal doctor. But I suspect he can go to a sport psychiatrist until the cows come home, and it won't help.
