Well done Tommy! :bounce: :bounce:

He played some great tennis in the third set especially.

I think they had a few words at the net at the end there. David wasn't happy about something it seemed?

Anyway Vamos Tommy!! :D

Nalbo should win this match when he leaded 4-3 and 40-15 to lead 5-3 in the third set. Everything's happen so fast, then he lost.

Well, you know, anyone who has a win over Dirk's ninjaloverboy has to be trodden into the ground and smashed. It's a strange psychological need. Just accept it. ;)

I'm not a fan of Nalbandian but all the bashings in this thread are really uncall for. Robredo is a top 20 player and he's a top 10 player on clay (IMO). And clay is not the best surface for Nalbandian (although surfaces are not that much different for him than other players) Losing a 3 set match vs Robredo is really not that big deal.

I am a fan of Nalbandian Lee, and I'm used to this stuff here in GM. Of course it still upsets me. But I chose not to answer anymore, I have better things to do with my time. David didn't exactly lost to a stranger, or to the nr.1542 in the ranking.

I am sure he is upset and disapointed, his fans are too. But let's just move on. It's not the end of the world or somethinng

Oh and that belly shit...that's old news. If you wanna criticize, at least be original.

It's so simple, the higher you climb the more haters you'll have. David is the current top-3 player in the world and many people dislike that. There is no need to respond to them.

You're right Julio, his ranking bothers a lot of people.

What irritates about this match is not so much the result as the way it was won and lost. After edging that very close first set, Nalbandian had some chances early on in the second set to get the early break and really crush Robredo's morale, but he couldn't take them and bang went the next 7 games, even though the first few of them were long struggles that Robredo just happened to come through. It was that sort of match really, where Nalbandian seemed to be in control for large periods, dictating most of the play, but somehow Robredo ended up emerging in the lead once again.

I think the decisive factor was his better mobility and groundstrokes on clay - it's interesting that both men I believe grew up playing on hardcourts, Robredo as well as Nalbandian, because the former has loopier claycourt strokes especially on the backhand side, and though they are the same height, he is a bit lighter and therefore quicker on this surface. Like alfie said, Nalbandian's forehand ultimately isn't that suited to clay, he hits it too flat and often netted it after really tough, long exchanges. That, and the double fault he served at 4-3 and 40-30 in the final set, really did him in.

Nalbandian was blowing hot and cold throughout that match. I suspect either fitness or focus issues.

According to the Argentine Press, the reason for the bad feeling in the match was because Nalbandian thought Robredo celebrated too much when he (Nalbandian) made an error http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pagina.jsp?pagId=1181419
