Hrbaty is a joke. He had the match in his palms.

JCF should win this.

Don't you know Ferrer's specialty is coming back to win after being 0-4 down in the final set? See his match vs Gaudio at RG last year. :p

Can't see it being easy for either player - Ferrero has clearly picked up his form but Ferrer is a fighter and good on the red stuff - I will stick my neck out and say Ferrer in three.

Yeah, but at least Ferrero's gained some confidence. His scoreline in the tournament so far must have some impact on him. :p

finally some confidence he lacked so far...though it'll be a tough match i think

I'd want to say Ferrer because he's been the better player for ages now and actually leads their H2H, but JCF's run has been more impressive, if beating Tursunov and Chela with those scorelines on clay can be called such a thing, on the other hand though, Ferrer got one of the toughest draws in the tournament and as stated many times, he never dies.

Vamos David, I think he will pull it off 2 or 3 tight sets.

Eh? All his titles and his best GS result are on clay, I'm pretty sure he has his best career W/L record on that surface too. True, he didn't show up to work today with 12 winners to 40 UE, but certainly not a claycourt clown by any means.

NATAS81

Titles shmitles. He hasn't done jack on clay lately.

Apart from reach the final in Acapulco, the last tournament he played on clay before this one, but don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

i dont wanna jinx juan carlos, so i wont make a prediction. JC will be more fresh for this match, he had two easy matches compared to David's pair of 3 setters, so maybe he will cope better if it goes the distance even though ferrer is known for his fighting qualities..
Good luck JC, vamos :)

Sometimes being fresh means being unprepared for a close battle.

it's ok  , i think JC knows what to expect from David, all their previous matches have gone the full distance

I wonder if they trained together ala Moya/Nadal. That would bode well for Ferrer to cut into Ferrero's current form thus far.

Jimnik
04-20-2006, 12:31 AM
I don't think Ferrer's long matches will put him at a disadvantage. He'll have more confidence if the match goes to a final set. Even if he's tired, the adrenaline will carry him through this match.

JC will have to out-play Ferrer. This is definately JC's biggest test, so far.

They've always had tough battles off of clay so I expect this to be more of the same. Expect a war.

Ferrer in 3, JCF has stormed through his first two matches but he was never tested and there weren't any big points to play. Ferrer is one of the biggest fighters around, and is used to playing close 3 set matches. JCF will fade as the pressure mounts and Ferrer takes the decisive set.

Ferrer is a good mental player, yesterday he lagged a break in last set and finally he could fight back,so it will be tough for Juan, esp play in longer time.I hope Juan will finish it fast! :rocker2:

Chela is pretty poor on dirt. :tape:

He's good enough, a former RG quarterfinalist.

I think Ferrero hadn't beaten a single Top 50 player coming into MC, so for him to beat two in a row with such ease is good. :) But David Ferrer is definitely a horse of a different color on this surface.

David Ferrer seems to be an underestimatd player
he has been in the top 20 for some time now
but looks to be floating with noone noticing him
he doesnt have any big weapons, but playing consistently, percentage play
& a good tactic on the court, he knows when to change something when things are not going well for him

Leo

Routine break of serve by ferrer to consolidate his holding of serve.

its not a vital hold of serve until you break in the next game

there must be a unspoken rule in clay court tennis between players.
whenever a match is shorter then 3 hours the player with the huge lead must begin playing like crap before the other player is in control. Rinse and repeat until match has gone on for at least 3 hours.

Disappointing that JCF lost this match but it was more encouraging a loss than some lately. First set aside, it was pretty even. I was worried JC would quietly slip out at 1-6, 4-5 but he fought hard and it was the second game of the third set that let him down. A few loose errors in that game and he was always behind. JC had his chances. Two break points at 2-4 in the third set but two unforced errors on returns :( Another close loss in the end. He needs to start winning these matches again. I was encouraged to see him fight hard though. And his backhand was strong.

Ferrer was very solid though and played better when it counted at the end of that third set. That's the second Masters Series event in a row that I've seen Ferrer get warnings for kicking those big courtside clocks. He could do himself a freak injury one day :p I think he smashed a ball off one at close range as well. Don't think Rolex will be getting in touch for a sponsorship deal any time soon ;)

Ferrero is the most defensive player in the ATP.

And against Ferrer, he had no chances because of that.

Jimnik

Ferrer was very good. He just had the mental edge throughout the whole match. Whenever there was a risk of JC sneaking ahead, Ferrer would play his best tennis.

Federer v Ferrer will be interesting but I hope David doesn't run out of gas.

Well done Ferrer but tough luck for Ferrero. I think the simple fact is Ferrero isn't a great player anymore. In my book Ferrer was favourite and he proved it, he will test Federer surely and an upset is a distinct possibility.

I think the simple fact is Ferrero isn't a great player anymore.

In JCF, you can see the ruins of what once was a world class game. He used to be a contender for Slams, now he's an above average claycourter. On a few points here and there, you can still catch glimpses of a huge forehand, a dependable backhand that can hit deep shots or create sharp angles, and even a good first serve (better than Ferrer's anyway). But he can't get that game to work consistently for a full game, let alone a set or a match.

Just that had David not lost to Rafa those 3 times, he might have won a title last year or at least risen higher in the rankings.

 I fail to see what's shocking about him getting to the QFs, that was his result last year.
