:woohoo:
well done JC, avenging his loss to Tursunov in the Miami Masters second round a few weeks ago.

hopefully this win can give him some much needed confidence
Vamos JC

He was really hitting the forehand hard today. Tursunov was too, except most were hitting the fence instead of the court. Absolutely no patience, which you need on clay.

What was this? :) Signs of the "pre-chicken-pox king of clay" or a weak opponent?

What a beating. I am not surprised at the win, but I thought that Tursunov would put up some kind of resistance. In any case, there's a good reason why he has only won 3 or 4 ATP level matches on clay.

Ferrero hardly missed a 1st serve. Maybe this will build up his confidence.

Yep. Apart from a few games at the start of the second set, he clearly didn't really want to grind it out and work some rallies. He whacked it as hard as he could and if it went in, it went in and if it didn't, it didn't.

I was glad JC was hitting his forehand really hard though (when the rallies were long enough ;))

Talk about overreacting, Tursunov sucks on clay, Ferrero should of won this.

Any similarity between JCF´s fh nowadays to the old times one is purely cointidential.

Quite a few coincidences today then ;) If he does it in his next match, it'll just be scary.

Yeah, it was his usual game but amplified even more :D
I thought he might just compromise a tiny bit for the clay, but it appears not.

You´re too biased to analize imo, his fh is dangerously becoming into a weakness ;)

I am a fan, but you're right, compared to the old days that forehand has lost a lot of it's threat. Today though, he was genuinely whacking it a lot harder than a lot of recent matches I've seen.

Good for Ferrero! I'd love to say he's coming to his old form, but I'm afraid this scoreline had more to do with Tursunov and his love for clay.

You just got the feeling that JCF was due for a match like this. The tools have been there, but he hasn't put it together for awhile.

Then again, Tursunov isn't a clay master either. The next match will tell where JCF is really at.

84% first serves for JCF - He probably only needed to roll them in against this goon, LOL

This Ferrero service stat from the first set is particularly telling: 88% first serves in, 78% first serves won, 0% second serves won - but that's probably no more than 2 or 3 points in the whole set. Obviously Dima could tee off when he had a second serve to hit, but he didn't have many. No surprise though, he doesn't have the patience or margin for error to beat any decent Top 50 player on clay. The acid test for Ferrero's clay form will come in the next round against Chubby Chela, who remarkably took three sets to beat Grinning Greg.

This was not a test. Tursunov was
Even if they had been playing on hard courts, JC would have won today. Tursunov was hitting everything out.

I think, by the 2nd set, Tursunov had given up. The guy is hopeless on clay.

it's very strange that Tursonov sucks so much on clay. I know he probably didn't play on it much at all in his formative years (if we assume he had them) but his game doesn't seem that unsuited to it given he hits with very heavy topspin on both sides. i guess there are more opportunities for error though and we all know how much Dmitry loves making those errors :tape:

I was thinking yesterday that Ferrero might be gone for good for the first time - hopefully he'll start turning it around here - i'll never be a huge fan but i think his game has more to offer than some of the current top 10

Jimnik
04-18-2006, 12:32 AM
Tursunov's problem is his mentality. He has the shots but he doesn't have the patience to go deep into rallies.

No way no How. If this was on hard courts Dima would have actually tried and felt like he could have won and honestly he would have. :p But we can't live in "what ifs".

Dmitry's game is not suitable for clay.... hard and flat hitting!!!
Drawing a clay court specialist list Juanqui is too tough for him!!

Don't worry! Dmitry will sure learn from it!
